The predicted swell of the year for Indonesia was a hoax for many, chargers frothing maxing out credit cards to be there, photographers and wanna be surfers, pros and the hot of the hottest where hitting places to find the high and find the gold! Mick Fanning with the rip curl document team flew in to Nias hoping to get it on, shame about the swell but I'm afraid that anything above 215 degrees swell direction is a bit of a grab in the dark for a 3 day wave mission, days after the predicted swell it pumped for the remainder of the crew who, not being on a snatch and grab mission but just came to Indo to surf! and did we score in the days after. This video has Mic Fanning in Nias for a few waves, everyone enjoyed and Mick is a good bloke the local kids where stoked, as where the spectators, maybe next time Mick you will score the Classic Nias 8 foot barrels hope to see you again in the future.

Nias, which is administratively located in North Sumatra, is a cloistered small island where one of Indonesia's oldest civilizations has developed and continues to this day. The theory of cultural dissemination states Nias's ancestors came from Yunan, in the south of China, about 3.500 years ago.
Nias Island represents the glory of the megalithic age from Indonesia's perspective. Traditions which shaped their material culture, as part of its cultural civilisation, were extensive and most likely cannot be found in other places. Areas in Nias Island are dominated by large stones portraying their cultural civilisation which take the form of menhirs, dolmens, stone coffins, monuments, statues from the megalithic age and house ladders.
For the Nias, stone likewise represents one's identity and the order of social discourse. Rituals and traditions involving stones have been passed down from generation to generation.

Nias
Nīas (Indonesian: Pulau Nias, Nias language: Tanö Niha) is an island off the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Nias (Kepulauan Nias) is also the name of the archipelago, including the small Hinako Islands.
Nias Island covers an area of 5,121.3 km2 (1,977.3 sq mi) (including minor offshore islands). It is mostly a lowland area rising to around 800 m (2,600 ft) above sea level. There were 756,338 inhabitants on the island (including minor offshore islands) at the 2010 Census. The latest estimate for January 2014 is 788,132.
Geography
It is located in a chain of islands parallel to the west coast of Sumatra; Simeulue is about 140 km (87 mi) northwest, and the Batu Islands (which are administered as part of Nias and have an ethnically similar population) are located about 80 km (50 mi) southeast. This chain, which resurfaces in Nusa Tenggara in the mountainous islands of Sumba and Timor, is the forearc of the South Sumatra Basin along the Sunda Trench subduction zone.
At Nias the oceanic plate is being obliquely subducted under the Asian Plate at the rapid rate of 52 mm (2.0 in) a year (Milsom).

The predicted swell of the year for Indonesia was a hoax for many, chargers frothing maxing out credit cards to be there, photographers and wanna be surfers, pros and the hot of the hottest where hitting places to find the high and find the gold! Mick Fanning with the rip curl document team flew in to Nias hoping to get it on, shame about the swell but I'm afraid that anything above 215 degrees swell direction is a bit of a grab in the dark for a 3 day wave mission, days after the predicted swell it pumped for the remainder of the crew who, not being on a snatch and grab mission but just came to Indo to surf! and did we score in the days after. Nias, which is administratively located in North Sumatra, is a cloistered small island where one of Indonesia's oldest civilizations has developed and continues to this day. The theory of cultural dissemination states Nias's ancestors came from Yunan, in the south of China, about 3.500 years ago.
Nias Island represents the glory of the megalithic age from Indonesia's perspective. Traditions which shaped their material culture, as part of its cultural civilisation, were extensive and most likely cannot be found in other places. Areas in Nias Island are dominated by large stones portraying their cultural civilisation which take the form of menhirs, dolmens, stone coffins, monuments, statues from the megalithic age and house ladders.
For the Nias, stone likewise represents one's identity and the order of social discourse. Rituals and traditions involving stones have been passed down from generation to generation.
In this Island, videographer seen that military culture (brutal, aggressive, and active) blended with something beauty soul from their ancestor.
