Turn on Anti-phishing and Content Blockers
To turn Anti-phishing on, tap Settings > Safari and turn on Fraudulent Website Warning. When it's on, the Anti-phishing feature in Safari will show an alert if the site you're visiting is a suspected phishing site. To turn it off, tap Fraudulent Website Warning again.
Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to steal your personal information, such as passwords, account information, or user names. A fraudulent website masquerades as a legitimate one, such as a bank, financial institution, or email service provider.
With iOS 9, Safari brings Content Blockers. Content Blockers are extensions that let Safari efficiently block cookies, images, resources, pop-ups, and other content.
To turn on Content Blockers, you need to download a content blocking app from the App Store. Tap Settings > Safari > Content Blockers and enable the extensions that you’d like to use. You can use more than one content blocker.
You need an iPhone 5s or later to use Content Blockers.
Block cookies
To set whether Safari blocks cookies in iOS 8 or later, tap Settings > Safari > Block Cookies and choose one of the following: Always Block, Allow from Current Websites Only, Allow from Websites I Visit, or Always Allow. In iOS 7 or earlier, choose Never, From third parties and advertisers, or Always.
A cookie is a piece of data that a website puts on your device. Using cookies, the website can remember you when you visit again, and the webpage can be customized for you based on information you might have provided. Some pages might not work unless you accept cookies. For instance:
- You're unable to log in to a website or webpage using your correct username and password.
- You see a message on a webpage that cookies are required, or that your browser's cookie functionality is turned off.
- You try to use a feature on a website, but it doesn't work as expected.
Allow JavaScript
JavaScript is on by default. To change your settings, tap Settings > Safari > Advanced and turn JavaScript on or off. JavaScript lets web programmers control elements of the page. For example, a page that uses JavaScript might show the current date and time or cause a linked page to appear in a new pop-up page.
If you disable JavaScript, you might prevent some unwanted pop-ups. But you might need JavaScript on in order for some websites to work.
Clear information from your device
To clear your history and cookies from Safari in iOS 8 or later, tap Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. In iOS 7 or earlier, tap Clear History and tap Clear Cookies and Data.
To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.
Clearing your history, cookies, and browsing data from Safari won't change your AutoFill information.
