Sita Kund

Sita-Kund is a Hindu pilgrimage site in Sitamarhi, in the Indian state of Bihar, which has an adjacent ancient Hindu temple. It is situated 5 km west of Sitamarhi town and a popular visitor's attraction.

Sitamarhi

This is the place where Sita was born, the main character of the epic Ramayana. The town is situated along the border of Nepal. The district of Sitamarhi was carved out of Muzaffarpur district on 11 December 1972. It is situated in the northern part of Bihar. Its headquarter is located at Dumra, five kilometers south of Sitamarhi. The district headquarter was shifted here after the town of Sitamarhi was devastated in one of the worst ever earthquake in January 1934.

Sitamarhi is a sacred place in Hindu mythology. Its history goes back to Treta Yug. Sita, the wife of Rama sprang to life out of an earthern pot, when Raja Janak was ploughing the field Punaura near Sitamarhi to impress upon Lord Indra for rain. It is said that Raja Janak excavated a tank at the place where Sita emerged and after her marriage set up the stone figures of Rama, Sita and Laxman to mark the site. This tank is known as Janaki-kund and is south of the Janaki Mandir.

Sita

Sita (also spelled Sîta, Seeta or Seetha [ˈsiːt̪aː],  listen  meaning "furrow") also known as Vaidehi, Janaki, Maithili, Bhoomija, is the central female character of the Hindu epic Ramayana and a daughter of King Janak of Janakpur. She is the consort of the Hindu god Rama (avatar of Vishnu) and is an avatar of Lakshmi (Aadi Shakti of Lord Vishnu), goddess of wealth and wife of Vishnu. She is esteemed as a paragon of spousal and feminine virtues for all Hindu women. Sita is known for her dedication, self-sacrifice, courage and purity.

Sita is described as the daughter of the earth goddess Bhūmi and the adopted daughter of King Janaka of Mithila and Queen Sunayna. In her youth, she marries Rama, the prince of Ayodhya. Soon after her marriage, she is forced into exile with her husband and brother-in-law Lakshmana. While in exile, the trio settle in the Dandaka forest, from where she is abducted by Ravana, Rakshasa King of Lanka. She is imprisoned in the Ashoka Vatika of Lanka by Ravana. Sita is finally rescued by Rama in the climatic war where Rama slays Ravana. Sita goes into fire for her human body to come out of fire-god's protection and her imitation, abducted by ravan, gets back in the fire. Thereafter, Rama and Sita return to Ayodhya, where they are crowned as king and queen. However, Rama abandons a pregnant Sita when one of his subjects casts doubt over her chastity. In the refuge of Sage Valmiki's hermitage Sita gives birth to twins Lava and Kusha. After her sons grow up and unite with their father, Sita returns to her mother, the Earth's womb, for release from a cruel world as a testimony of her purity. Her other names are Bhumija and Janaki.

Sita (singer)

Sita Maria Vermeulen (born 8 June 1980), known by the mononym Sita, is a Dutch pop singer. She rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of pop group K-otic. After the band disbanded in 2003, she had a brief solo career before turning to television, where she was featured primarily on children's television and was a candidate on the Dutch Dancing With The Stars. Since 2009, she has been hosting the Dutch Disney Channel.

Biography

Sita's career started in 2001 when she entered in the Dutch television show Starmaker, which was a talent show intended to create a band. During the show, Sita became a member of a band which was called K-otic. Partly due to the popularity of the show, the band scored a few hits. In December 2001, Sita left the band to have a solo career, releasing "Happy", her first solo single. In January 2002 her first solo album, also called Happy, followed.

In 2002, Sita released Happy in the United States, and "Happy" as a song was also included in the soundtrack of The Wild Thornberrys. As a consequence of her being involved in that movie's album, she received some coverage on Nickelodeon. Within Europe, she became more known in 2003 when she had the hit song "Le Chemin" together with the French band Kyo. In 2007, Spanish singer Edurne released a cover of her song "Come With Me" under the name Ven Por Mi, achieving success in the Spanish charts.

Kund

Kund is a village and one of the 51 Union Councils (administrative subdivisions) of Khushab District in the Punjab Province of Pakistan. It is located at 32°24'40N 72°12'17E.
