Enos (TV series)

Enos is an American television series from the 1980–1981 season that aired on the CBS network. A spinoff of The Dukes of Hazzard, Enos focused on the adventures of Enos Strate, a former small-town deputy in Hazzard County, after having moved to Los Angeles to join the L.A.P.D. Each episode featured Enos, alongside his partner Turk, and usually began and ended with Enos writing a letter to Daisy Duke in which he told her of his adventures in Los Angeles. Enos Strate was portrayed by actor Sonny Shroyer in both series.

In an attempt to boost ratings, a number of characters from The Dukes of Hazzard (Uncle Jesse, Daisy, and Rosco) were brought in as guest stars but the show still failed to catch on. It was canceled after one eighteen episode season and the character consequently returned to The Dukes of Hazzard in the fall of 1982. In the CBS movie specials The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (1997) and The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood! (2000), it was explained that Enos had returned to the L.A.P.D. where he was now a detective after having served on the force for fifteen years.

Enos (biblical figure)

Enos or Enosh (Hebrew: אֱנוֹשׁ, Modern Enosh, Tiberian ʼĔnôš; "mortal man"; Ge'ez: ሄኖስ Henos), in the Book of Genesis of the Hebrew Bible, is the first son of Seth who figures in the Generations of Adam, and consequently referred to within the genealogies of Chronicles.

According to Christianity he is part of the Genealogy of Jesus as mentioned in Luke 3:38.

In the Hebrew Bible

According to Genesis, Seth was 105 years old when Enos was born (but the Septuagint version gives 205 years), and Seth had further sons and daughters. He was the grandson of Adam and Eve (Genesis 5:6-11; Luke 3:38). According to Seder Olam Rabbah, based on Jewish reckoning, he was born in AM 235. According to the Septuagint, it was in AM 435.

Enos was the father of Kenan, who was born when Enos was 90 years old (or 190 years, according to the Septuagint). According to the Bible he died at the age of 905.

In Judaism

The traditional Jewish interpretation of this verse, though, implies that it marked the beginning of idolatry, i.e. that men start dubbing "Lord" things that were mere creatures. This is because the previous generations, notably Adam, had already "begun calling upon the name of the Lord", which forces us to interpret הוחל huchal not as "began" but as the homonym "profanated". In this light, Enosh suggests the notion of a humanity (Enoshut) thinking of itself as an absolute rather than in relation to God (Enosh vs. Adam).

Enos (Book of Mormon prophet)

According to the Book of Mormon, Enos (/ˈiː.nəs/; (Hebrew: אֱנוֹשׁ), was a son of Jacob, a Nephite prophet and author of the Book of Enos.

Nephite record keeping

Enos was third in the series of record keepers who maintained the record of the Nephites, a set of metal plates containing the spiritual and secular history of the Nephites. Enos was given charge of the record by his father, Jacob, son of Lehi and brother of Nephi. Both Nephi and Jacob had kept the record previously, recording First and Second Nephi and the Book of Jacob, respectively. Enos's contribution to the record, the Book of Enos, consists of a single chapter, told in the first person, describing his own conversion and subsequent ministry.

Following Enos's death the record of the Nephites was kept by Enos' son, Jarom.

Early life

No details of Enos's early life are given except that he had been taught by his father "in the nurture and the admonition of the Lord". Because Enos begins his story by telling of his "wrestle which [he] had before God, before [he] received a remission of [his] sins", it is sometimes assumed that he had been rebellious prior to that time. President Spencer W. Kimball said, "Like many sons of good families he strayed. How heinous were his sins I do not know, but they must have been grievous".

The writers originally intended many of these characters as one-time jokes or for fulfilling needed functions in the town. Agnes Skinner

Agnes Skinner (voiced by Tress MacNeille) is the mother of Principal Skinner and first appeared in the first season episode "The Crepes of Wrath" as an old woman who embarrassingly calls her son "Spanky". However, as episodes progressed, the character turned bitter. She is very controlling of her son and often treats him as if he is a child. She hates Edna Krabappel due to her son's feelings for the other woman. Agnes has married four times. Several Springfield residents (including the Simpsons) are afraid of her. When "the real Seymour Skinner" arrives in Springfield, Agnes ends up rejecting him in part because he stands up to her, but also because unlike Skinner/Tamzarian, her biological son is independent and doesn't need her anymore, while Skinner immediately reverts to a good-for-nothing without her.

Street football

The term street football and street soccer (in North America) encompass a number of informal varieties of association football. These informal games do not necessarily follow the requirements of a formal game of football, such as a large field, field markings, goal apparatus and corner flags, eleven players per team, or match officials (referee and assistant referees).
