Most notably, Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures will be celebrating their 100th anniversaries. Dr. No, the first film in the James Bond series (the second highest-grossing film series), will celebrate its 50th anniversary in a year that will see the release of the 23rd film in the series, Skyfall. Four big box-office blockbusters (Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Titanic, and Finding Nemo) will all be re-released in 3-D.

It is currently the 4th highest-grossing film of all time and in the United States and Canada, and has become the fastest-grossing film in American history, breaking every incremental $50 million box office record through to $500 million. The Avengers has become the highest grossing superhero film worldwide. The 3-D re-releases of two films reached new milestones: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace grossed $1.027 billion, becoming the eleventh film to surpass the $1 billion mark; and Titanic grossed $2.185 billion, becoming the second film to surpass the $2 billion mark, following Avatar.
