Los habitantes de la antigua Grecia se llamaban a sí mismos helenos, y a su tierra, Grecia, la llamaban la Hélade. El territorio de la Grecia antigua coincide aproximadamente con el actual, pero para completar el mundo helénico es preciso añadir las costas egeas de Asia Menor, así como las del sur de Italia y la isla de Sicilia.
La historia y la cultura griegas están íntimamente relacionadas con el paisaje. La Grecia continental es prácticamente una cadena montañosa que se hunde en el Mar Egeo, cuyas numerosas islas no son más que las cimas de esta cordillera sumergida. Este fenómeno ha dado lugar a unas líneas costeras muy recortadas y abruptas, con abundantes penínsulas y pequeñas islas próximas, además de unos valles interiores cerrados y de difícil acceso. Las llanuras, por el contrario, son escasas y de pequeña extensión.
El nexo de unión de estas diferentes áreas es el mar, vía de enlace de los diferentes territorios y factor de expansión del mundo griego. La escasez de terreno fértil obligará al griego antiguo a buscar nuevas tierras que alimenten a la población sobrante. De ahí la vocación comercial del pueblo heleno o la colonización de nuevos territorios, que caracterizarán a la Grecia antigua.
Pero el paisaje griego, con ser importante, no ayuda por sí solo a explicar el maravilloso legado cultural helénico. El racionalismo como actitud ante la vida, la consideración del hombre como medida de todas las cosas, el amor a la belleza y un elevado sentido estético o la democracia como sistema político, son valores espirituales presentes en nuestro mundo. "Opino que es justo favorecer al pueblo en general en detrimento de los nobles y los ricos, porque es el pueblo quien, al dar los hombres para la marina y el comercio, constituye la fuerza de Atenas. En consecuencia, justo es que participe de los cargos que dependen de una elección", dirá Jenofonte en el siglo IV. Estos valores, sin duda una deuda reconocible con el mundo griego, no surgen de manera repentina, sino que son el fruto de evolución de casi 3.000 años.
Durante estos tres milenios, pueblos diferentes poblaron las tierras de la Hélade. Desde el año 3000 a.C., en que finaliza el Neolítico, hasta el 1100 antes de nuestra Era, se desarrolla la Edad del Bronce. En esta etapa emergen sucesivamente tres grandes culturas. La primera, la Cicládica, tiene como característica principal el desarrollo de un floreciente comercio.
Mucho más importante será la cultura minoica, cuyo núcleo es la isla de Creta. Alrededor del 1900 a.C. surgen grandiosos palacios en Cnosós y Festo, imponentes residencias reales con cientos de habitaciones, algunas de ellas bellísimamente decoradas con frescos vivos y coloristas. Los palacios cretenses señalan la aparición de un poder absoluto, sustentado económicamente por una intensa actividad comercial, basada en el intercambio de suntuosos objetos de artesanía.... --

Grecia (Spanish: meaning "Greece") is the capital city of the canton of Grecia in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the distrito (Spanish: meaning "district") that includes the city. The district of Grecia covers an area of 6.86 km², and has a population of 15,457.
The city lies at an elevation of 999 meters above sea level in the foothills of the Cordillera Central on the eastern edge of the Central Valley. The city, which was once named "the cleanest city in Latin America,"[citation needed] is 20 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital city of Alajuela, 27 kilometers from Juan Santamaria International Airport, and 45 kilometers from the national capital city of San José.
Grecia is noted for its unique church, Iglesia de la Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, made entirely of pre-fabricated steel plates painted red. There are several urban legends about this church. One recounts how the church was donated by some foreign country, and sent to Greece as a gift, but was wrongly shipped to Grecia, Costa Rica. Another legend states that the final destination of the church was the city of Punta Arenas in Chile but was disembarked, by mistake, in the port of Puntarenas, Costa Rica and later sent to the city of Grecia where it was assembled.

Desde el año 3000 a.C., en que finaliza el Neolítico, hasta el 1100 antes de nuestra Era, se desarrolla la Edad del Bronce. En esta etapa emergen sucesivamente tres grandes culturas. La primera, la Cicládica, tiene como característica principal el desarrollo de un floreciente comercio. Mucho más importante será la cultura minoica, cuyo núcleo es la isla de Creta. Alrededor del 1900 a.C. surgen grandiosos palacios en Cnosós y Festo, imponentes residencias reales con cientos de habitaciones, algunas de ellas bellísimamente decoradas con frescos vivos y coloristas. Plot: It begins in the middle 30's in a town near Bogotá, Colombia. Tomás Manrique, his wife Josefina and his little son Pedro, had to take a train and leave that town as soon as a war conflict started in the area. When they arrived to Bogota, a man called Pascual became their friend, and got a hotel for them to stay. When Tomás and Pascual got closer friends, Pascual robbed them. But when Tomás found it out, and went to reclaim his money, Pascual introduced him into an easy-life world, into dirty businesses and crime. In that very moment, Tomás damned the whole 5 next generations of the Manrique family. He damned them to suffer and made their lives a hell. Ten years later, Pedro met Marlene, a nurse, and fell in love with her. Pascual was having money troubles with Tomás, suspecting that he was taking advantages of their businesses and "gaining" more money than him, so he killed him. Pedro found this out, and killed Pascual the day of his own wedding with Marlene. But before Pascual died, he said: "I curse you, Pedro Manrique. I curse you, and your sons, and the sons of your sons. All their lives will be a such a hell, than the only rest they'll have, will be death". With the help of a medium called Magnolia, Pedro found out that in a far future, his sons Armando and Antonio would have serious troubles and that one would kill the other. So Pedro knew that the only way to save his family from the curse, was love. The next generations, in 1970's, 80's, 2000, 2005, and 2006, had a very sad history: betrayals, loves, murders, and most of all, all the stories involved with dirty businesses. The Manriques: a family damned to suffer.

Los habitantes de la antigua Grecia se llamaban a sí mismos helenos, y a su tierra, Grecia, la llamaban la Hélade. El territorio de la Grecia antigua coincide aproximadamente con el actual, pero para completar el mundo helénico es preciso añadir las costas egeas de Asia Menor, así como las del sur de Italia y la isla de Sicilia.
La historia y la cultura griegas están íntimamente relacionadas con el paisaje. La Grecia continental es prácticamente una cadena montañosa que se hunde en el Mar Egeo, cuyas numerosas islas no son más que las cimas de esta cordillera sumergida. Este fenómeno ha dado lugar a unas líneas costeras muy recortadas y abruptas, con abundantes penínsulas y pequeñas islas próximas, además de unos valles interiores cerrados y de difícil acceso. Las llanuras, por el contrario, son escasas y de pequeña extensión.
El nexo de unión de estas diferentes áreas es el mar, vía de enlace de los diferentes territorios y factor de expansión del mundo griego. La escasez de terreno fértil obligará al griego antiguo a buscar nuevas tierras que alimenten a la población sobrante. De ahí la vocación comercial del pueblo heleno o la colonización de nuevos territorios, que caracterizarán a la Grecia antigua.
Pero el paisaje griego, con ser importante, no ayuda por sí solo a explicar el maravilloso legado cultural helénico. El racionalismo como actitud ante la vida, la consideración del hombre como medida de todas las cosas, el amor a la belleza y un elevado sentido estético o la democracia como sistema político, son valores espirituales presentes en nuestro mundo. "Opino que es justo favorecer al pueblo en general en detrimento de los nobles y los ricos, porque es el pueblo quien, al dar los hombres para la marina y el comercio, constituye la fuerza de Atenas. En consecuencia, justo es que participe de los cargos que dependen de una elección", dirá Jenofonte en el siglo IV. Estos valores, sin duda una deuda reconocible con el mundo griego, no surgen de manera repentina, sino que son el fruto de evolución de casi 3.000 años.
Durante estos tres milenios, pueblos diferentes poblaron las tierras de la Hélade. Desde el año 3000 a.C., en que finaliza el Neolítico, hasta el 1100 antes de nuestra Era, se desarrolla la Edad del Bronce. En esta etapa emergen sucesivamente tres grandes culturas. La primera, la Cicládica, tiene como característica principal el desarrollo de un floreciente comercio.
Mucho más importante será la cultura minoica, cuyo núcleo es la isla de Creta. Alrededor del 1900 a.C. surgen grandiosos palacios en Cnosós y Festo, imponentes residencias reales con cientos de habitaciones, algunas de ellas bellísimamente decoradas con frescos vivos y coloristas. Los palacios cretenses señalan la aparición de un poder absoluto, sustentado económicamente por una intensa actividad comercial, basada en el intercambio de suntuosos objetos de artesanía.... --

Welcome to Oia, Greece, a small community residing on the northernmost tip of Santorini. While it’s now a relaxing holiday getaway for visitors from all over the world, this sleepy Aegean town, perched on the clifftops around a former volcanic caldera, once boasted a powerful merchant fleet.
Any tour of Oia allows you to see the remains of some of this power scattered throughout town. A number of captains’ houses, built in the 1800s, are positioned near the top of the caldera and feature commanding views of the town and the turquoise Aegean Sea. One of these mansions has been restored and repurposed as the Naval Maritime Museum, inviting you to stop by during your Oia sightseeing. While there, you’ll learn about the history of seafaring in the area. Check out the figureheads, old charts, antique equipment, and stunning architecture that features vaulted ceilings and terraced rooftops.
Oia tourism leans heavily on rest and relaxation. Many visiting artists were taken with the beautiful natural scenery and ended up moving to the island. As a result, Oia has a number of art galleries. Wander through the village’s narrow streets, stroll in and out of those galleries, and meander to a café overlooking the sea where you can continue to relax. You’ll realize exactly why these creative folks fell so deeply in love with Oia.

You don’t need to be fully versed in Greek myths to enjoy your trip, but before you begin your Mykonos tour, get to know some of the island’s local legends. In the old stories, Mykonos hosted a battle between Zeus and the giant Titans. The large rocks that are scattered over the island are said to be the remains of the Titans, which were left where they fell.
You won’t spend your all of your Mykonos sightseeing staring at rocks, though. Why not learn more about the local history in Mykonos Town, the largest community on the island? For instance, its windmills were built in the 16th century by the Venetians, who ruled the island until the 18th century. The windmills are the place to visit for outstanding views of the harbor and another dose of local lore.
Much of Mykonos Town is built in the medieval Venetian style; it is a maze of small lanes and whitewashed buildings. This community has been a Mykonos tourism hot spot since the 1950s thanks to its variety of restaurants and nightclubs, and for good reason. Eating, dancing, and ocean sunsets—what better combination could you ask for?

The top of our house is the other house’s balcony, from where there is a perfect view on the dark blue water of the Aegean Sea. The venetian blinds summon the color of the blue sky, the rows of cubic houses are sometimes broken by a blue-domed temple or a windmill. The balconies are full of geranium. The smell of gyros is in the air, from the cafes we hear the bouzouki, and the sight of the sunset from the taverns is unforgettable. The sun is scorching, one can smell the salty air and hear the seagulls, while down below the white boats sail towards their unknown destination.
