Tips on finding Lorquin's Admiral Hibernacula
Although this video shows how to find Lorquin's Admiral hibernating caterpillars in rolled-leaf hibernacula fastened on willows, aspens, choke cherries, and service berries, it can also be valuable to butterfly folks looking for similar hibernacula of viceroys, red spotted purples, white admirals, and weidemeyer's admirals. It is always beneficial to recognize and search the periphery of any groupings of host plants to find these Limenitis immatures including eggs on leaf tips, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd instar caterpillars resting on frass chains or perches, or hibernacula during the late summer, fall, or winter months.
