Depeche Mode /dᵻˌpɛʃˈmoʊd/ are an English electronic band formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. The group's original line-up consisted of Dave Gahan (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals, chief songwriter after 1981), Andy Fletcher (keyboards), and Vince Clarke (keyboards, chief songwriter from 1980 until 1981). Depeche Mode released their debut record in 1981, Speak & Spell, bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Clarke left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record A Broken Frame, released the following year. Gore took over lead songwriting duties and, later in 1982, Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, occasional songwriter) officially joined the band to fill Clarke's spot, establishing a line up that would continue for the next thirteen years.
The band's last albums of the 1980s, Black Celebration and Music for the Masses, established them as a dominant force on the mainstream electronic music scene. A highlight of this era was the band's concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl, where they drew a crowd in excess of 60,000 people. In the new decade, Depeche Mode released Violator, a mainstream success. The subsequent album, Songs of Faith and Devotion, and the supporting Devotional Tour exacerbated tensions within the band to the point where Alan Wilder quit in 1995, leading to intense media and fan speculation that the band would split. Now a trio once again, the band released Ultra in 1997, recorded at the height of Gahan's near-fatal drug abuse, Gore's alcoholism and seizures and Fletcher's depression. The release of Exciter confirmed Depeche Mode's willingness to remain together, the subsequent, and very successful, Exciter Tour being their first tour in support of an original album in eight years since the Devotional Tour, although the band had toured in 1998 to support The Singles 86–98 compilation album.
Mode (Latin: modus meaning "manner, tune, measure, due measure, rhythm, melody") may refer to:
Silence is a relative or total lack of sound.
Silence may also refer to:
"Enjoy the Silence" is a song by the English electronic band Depeche Mode, taken from their seventh studio album, Violator (1990). The song was recorded in 1989 and released on 16 January 1990 as the album's second single.
The single is Gold certificated in the US and Germany. The song won Best British Single at the 1991 BRIT Awards.
It has been recorded by many other artists, including Tori Amos, Anberlin, Failure, Breaking Benjamin, Hybrid and Keane.
"Enjoy the Silence" was re-released as a single in 2004 for the Depeche Mode remix project Remixes 81 - 04, and was titled "Enjoy the Silence (Reinterpreted)" or, more simply, "Enjoy the Silence 04".
There are two instrumental B-sides to "Enjoy the Silence". "Sibeling" (the 12" B-side) is a soft piano-tune while "Memphisto" (the 7" B-side) is a darker, eerier track. The title of "Sibeling" refers to Finnish classical composer Jean Sibelius. According to Martin Gore, "Memphisto is the name of an imaginary film about Elvis as a Devil, that I created in my mind".
"Personal Jesus" is a song by the English electronic band Depeche Mode, released on 29 August 1989 as the lead single from their seventh studio album, Violator (1990). The single reached No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was the first single to make the US Top 40 for the band since their 1984 single "People Are People" and was their first gold-certified single in the US (quickly followed by the band's subsequent single, "Enjoy the Silence").
In Germany, the single is one of the band's longest-charting songs, staying on the country's singles chart for 23 weeks.
In 2004, "Personal Jesus" was ranked No. 368 in Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time", and in September 2006 it was voted as one of the "100 Greatest Songs Ever" in Q magazine.
"Personal Jesus" was re-released as a single on 30 May 2011 for the new Depeche Mode remix album Remixes 2: 81–11, with the leading remix by the production team Stargate.
Since its release, the song has been covered by numerous artists including Gravity Kills, Marilyn Manson, Sammy Hagar, Jerry Williams, Lollipop Lust Kill, Nina Hagen, Richard Cheese, Johnny Cash, and Mindless Self Indulgence.

Highlights of the band's headlining performance in Glasgow, playing the iconic Barrowland Ballroom on the last Sunday in March. The band's first live UK show in four years saw them perform tracks from their new album Spirit, along with some classic hits. The last time Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher performed at the 2,000 capacity venue was in 1984 for their Some Great Reward tour.

One of the best albums ever made in my opinion, both musically and aurally. So why try to remaster it? Because I freakin' can! Anywho, Compression use was minimal to keep the dynamics, I did try to control the sibilance though. I actually used NIN's Hesitation Marks for an EQ reference because it has a very natural sound in that regard and doesn't over-hype anything like a lot of modern masters. (yes its still very compressed, but I am not talking about that, just talking EQ here). I did add a couple db of limiting, but never more than 3db at peak. So again, that's pretty minimal. Remember to support the artists and buy their fantastic music! All remastered music posted here is for the purposes of entertainment and experimentation only. Not much to say on this one, great sounding album to being with, let's see what it sounds like when you master it with modern tools, shall we? I will say that I did try to keep the presentation on this one as natural as possible. From the EQ curve, to the compression, to the limiting, and any other processing, I tried very hard to not over hype it. I used modern tools to (hopefully) make it sound better, not more modern, if that makes sense. All remastered music posted here is for the purposes of entertainment and experimentation only. I am simply exploring modern mastering techniques and their effect on great albums from various eras. I love these bands and their music and am in no way seeking to monetize anything about this. Depeche Mode - Interview with Dave Gahan. 2017 “We’re really kind of upset about what’s going on in the world,” says Dave Gahan at the start of our interview. Depeche Mode’s singer stopped by to discuss his iconic band’s new album, ‘Spirit,’ a record with political overtones and a thoughtful character that reminds listeners of the self-determination we all share. Regarding the title, Gahan says “we all have a consciousness, and anytime we want we can stop and choose to feel what’s really going on there. We all know when something’s not right.” Depeche Mode introduced itself to the world in 1981 with the catchy synth-pop of ‘Speak & Spell.’ Martin Gore’s writing well matched Gahan’s sensual vocals, and beloved records such as ‘Construction Time Again’ and ‘Violator,” made them one the er...

The drugs they say make us feel so hollow
We love in vain narcissistic and so shallow
The cops and queers to swim you have to swallow
Hate today there's no love for tomorrow
We're all stars now in the dope show
There's a lot of pretty, pretty ones
That want to get you high
But all the pretty, pretty ones
Will leave you low and blow your mind
They love you when you're on all the covers
When you're not then they love another
The drugs they say are made in California
We love your face
We'd really like to sell you
The cops and queers make good-looking models
I hate today
Who will I wake up with tomorrow?
