Exoplanets – the “other Earths” that could bear life in the universe

Edit New Statesman 09 May 2016
The recent discovery of Earth-like planets close to home is reshaping our understanding of the worlds beyond the solar system ... Aristotelian, geocentric models of the universe shaped our worldview and gave rise to a form of cosmic navel gazing – in which humanity placed itself at the heart of the universe while everything else danced in orbit around it, both literally and figuratively speaking ... And the rest, well, the rest is history....

God made the stars also

Edit The Examiner 26 Apr 2016
He made the stars also. It is a statement that God made the stars (Genesis 1.16) along with the other celestial bodies in the universe. There is an incalculable number of stars (Jeremiah 33.22), though vast they are finite (Isaiah 40.26) ... Each star is unique (I Corinthians 15.41) ... Ptolemy, a Greek astronomer (made the geocentric model of our solar system) listed 48 constellations in his book "The Almagest" ... (King James Version). ....

The Galileo affair

Edit The Examiner 02 Apr 2016
It had do with a man named Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) who supported Copernicus's heliocentric theory with some evidence, and suggested that his view was consistent with Scripture, not opposed to it, contradicting the generally held Ptolemaic cosmology, which was geocentric ... It goes to show you that the church wrest the Scriptures (II Peter 3.16) to their belief in the geocentric earth, and not Galileo ... Amen! ....

Artificial Intelligence: Gods, egos and Ex Machina

Edit The Guardian 26 Jan 2016
Even with its flaws, last year’s Ex Machina perfectly captured the curious relationship between artificial intelligence, God and ego. It’s taken me a year and a several viewings to collect my thoughts about Ex Machina ... (Spoilers ahead!). Artificial intelligence is one of the most narcissistic fields of research since astronomers gave up the geocentric universe ...
