The ordinary uniform of the Royal Life Guards while they are on guard duty is dark blue. Their full dress uniform is very similar to that of the Foot Guards regiments of the British Army: a scarlet or blue tunic; blue trousers; and a bearskin with the regiment's cap badge (the Sun and Royal Coat of Arms); together with the symbolic infantry sabre, which is part of the spoils from the First Schleswig War 1848–1850 and originally a French infantry sabre. During his time in the Danish forces, Crown Prince Frederik served a tour in the Royal Life Guards with the rank of Sergeant.
The regiment itself has three battalions:
1st Battalion (I Bataljon) – Founded 1658. Armoured Infantry Battalion, part of 2nd Brigade.
2nd Battalion (II Bataljon) – Founded 1867. Armoured Infantry Battalion, part of 2nd Brigade.
3rd Battalion (III Bataljon) – Founded 1923. Training Battalion.

The Queen's Guard and Queen's Life Guard are mounted at the royal residences that come under the operating area of the British Army's London District, which is responsible for the administration of the Household Division. This covers Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace and the Tower of London, as well as Windsor Castle. The Queen's Guard is also mounted at the sovereign's other official residence, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, but not as often as in London. In Edinburgh, the guard is the responsibility of the resident infantry battalion at Redford Barracks. It is not mounted at the Queen's private residences at Sandringham or Balmoral.

Dad's Army is a BBC television sitcom about the British Home Guard during the Second World War. It was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft and broadcast on BBC television from 1968 to 1977. The sitcom ran for 9 series and 80 episodes in total, plus a radio version based on the television scripts, a feature film and a stage show. The series regularly gained audiences of 18 million viewers and is still repeated worldwide.
The Home Guard consisted of local volunteers otherwise ineligible for military service, either owing to age or by being in professions that were exempt from conscription (Dad's Army deals almost exclusively with the former)

The Queen's Guard and Queen's Life Guard (called King's Guard and King's Life Guard when the reigning monarch is male) are the names given to contingents of infantry and cavalry soldiers charged with guarding the official royal residences in the United Kingdom. The British Army has regiments of both Horse Guards and Foot Guards predating the English Restoration (1660), and since the reign of King Charles II these have been responsible for guarding the Sovereign's palaces. Contrary to popular belief,[citation needed] they are not purely ceremonial and are fully operational soldiers.

As the Iraqi government threatens to expel all foreign mercenaries following the Blackwater shootout, the role of private military contractors is once again in the spotlight. There's no denying that the rise of the private military contractor is transforming the way we wage war. They earn four times more than regular soldiers, act with impunity and - in Iraq - outnumber all non-US soldiers combined. ‘Private Armies’ follows the training and deployment of these men. From skidding around a racing track, practising escaping from kidnappers, to dodging bullets in Baghdad, it’s an eye-opening look at life as a private soldier.

The Home Guard consisted of local volunteers otherwise ineligible for military service, either owing to age or by being in professions that were exempt from conscription (Dad's Army deals almost exclusively with the former), and as such the series mainly featured older British actors, including Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier, Arnold Ridley and John Laurie. Among relative youngsters in the regular cast were Ian Lavender, Clive Dunn (who played the elderly Jones), Frank Williams, James Beck (who died suddenly during production of the programme's sixth series in 1973) and Bill Pertwee. In 2004, Dad's Army was voted into fourth place in a BBC poll to find Britain's Best Sitcom. It had been placed 13th in a list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes drawn up by the British Film Institute in 2000 and voted for by industry professionals.[1] The series has influenced popular culture in the United Kingdom, with the series' catchphrases and characters being well known. It highlighted a forgotten aspect of defence during the Second World War. The Radio Times magazine listed Captain Mainwaring's "You stupid boy!" among the 25 greatest put-downs on TV. In 2014 it was announced that Bill Nighy, Sir Michael Gambon, Toby Jones and Sir Tom Courtenay are among the stars who will appear in a big-screen remake, set to be released in 2016.
"Room at the Bottom" is the sixth episode of the third series of the British comedy series Dad's Army that was originally transmitted on Thursday 16 October 1969.
This episode of Dad's Army, after its original broadcast on BBC1 in October 1969 and repeat in 1970, had only survived as a 16mm black-and-white film telerecording which had been transferred from the original colour videotape before that tape was wiped and reused for reasons of cost. In 2007 James Insell, a preservation specialist at the BBC Archive, established the Colour Recovery Working Group and in 2008 a new technique developed by member Richard Russell was used to restore the episode back to colour.

The Royal Life Guards Stopping for the Traffic Lights
The Royal Life Guards Stopping for the Traffic Lights
The Danish Guards walking the streets of Copenhagen.
I found it funny how the Guards would stop at the traffic lights!
The Royal Life Guards (Den Kongelige Livgarde) is an infantry regiment of the Danish Army, founded in 1658 by King Frederik III. It serves in two roles: as a front line combat unit, and as a guard/ceremonial unit to the Danish monarchy.
The Royal Life Guards provide a permanent guard at the Amalienborg Palace, Kastellet (part of the old fortification of Copenhagen), Rosenborg Castle/garrison of the Royal Life Guards in Copenhagen and the garrison of Høvelte.
On occasions guard is kept at Fredensborg Palace, Marselisborg Palace, Gråsten Palace, Christiansborg Palace and other locations inside the Danish realm.

Palace Guard S01E05 Eye Of Newt
The Queen's Guard and Queen's Life Guard (called King's Guard and King's Life Guard when the reigning monarch is male) are the names given to contingents of infantry and cavalry soldiers charged with guarding the official royal residences in the United Kingdom. The British Army has regiments of both Horse Guards and Foot Guards predating the English Restoration (1660), and since the reign of King Charles II these have been responsible for guarding the Sovereign's palaces. Contrary to popular belief,[citation needed] they are not purely ceremonial and are fully operational soldiers.

The current regiment was formed in 1959 by the amalgamation of 1st King's Dragoon Guards (increased in 1685 as Lanier's or 2nd Queen's Regiment of Equine by James II of England in reaction to the Monmouth Disobedience) as well as the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) (the previous Peterborough's or 3rd Regiment of Steed, also increased in 1685 by James II in reaction to the Monmouth Rebellion). [1]
The routine has spent much of its past history operatinged in Germany at different times. It offered during the Aden Emergency situation in 1966 and 1967 and its squadrons were distributed throughout the Middle East during that time. [1] Perhaps the best known member in the 1970s was Captain Mark Phillips, one-time husband of The Princess Anne: they married in 1973.
In 1983 the regiment was deployed to Lebanon on behalf of the allied Multinational Force, in 1990 it was sent to the Middle East for the Gulf War and also in 1996 it was deployed to Bosnia as part of NATO peacekeeping pressures during the Yugoslav Battles.
In 2003 the routine portioned in Iraq during the infiltration of Iraq offering the reconnaissance and light armour support needed to allow 3 Task force Brigade's advance north to Basra.
The regiment commemorated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on 31 July 2009 with an event at Cardiff castle as well as a parade through the roads of Cardiff city both attended by their Colonel-in-Chief The Prince of Wales. The routine obtained a fantastic response from individuals of Cardiff. That very same year the device was additionally awarded with the Freedom of the City of Swansea.
The routine completed its 2nd excursion of Afghanistan in between October 2011 and April 2012 (Procedure Herrick XV).
In May 2012, there was conjecture that the unit would end up being a target of the defence budget cuts. As it was one of simply 3 regiments traditionally connected with and still largely recruits from Wales, there was much support from the Welsh public to maintain the QDG. Nevertheless, Ministry of Protection officials revealed no such strategy has been made.
The existing routine was developed in 1959 by the combinations of 1st Master's Dragoon Guards (raised in 1685 as Lanier's or Second Queen's Regiment of Horse by James II of England in reaction to the Monmouth Rebellion) and the Second Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) (the former Peterborough's or 3rd Routine of Steed, likewise elevated in 1685 by James II in reaction to the Monmouth Disobedience). In 1983 the regiment was deployed to Lebanon in support of the allied Multinational Pressure, in 1990 it was sent to the Middle East for the Gulf War and in 1996 it was deployed to Bosnia as component of NATO peacekeeping forces throughout the Yugoslav Battles. In 2003 the routine offered in Iraq throughout the intrusion of Iraq supplying the reconnaissance and light armour assistance necessary to allow 3 Commando Brigade's advancement north to Basra. The regiment celebrated their fiftieth anniversary on 31 July 2009 with a wedding at Cardiff castle as well as a parade through the roads of Cardiff city both gone to by their Colonel-in-Chief The Prince of Wales. As it was one of just 3 programs traditionally associated with and still largely hires from Wales, there was much support from the Welsh public to keep the QDG.

Dad's Army - Room At The Bottom (in colour)
Dad's Army is a BBC television sitcom about the British Home Guard during the Second World War. It was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft and broadcast on BBC television from 1968 to 1977. The sitcom ran for 9 series and 80 episodes in total, plus a radio version based on the television scripts, a feature film and a stage show. The series regularly gained audiences of 18 million viewers and is still repeated worldwide.
