A statement issued by the Union of Agricultural Work Committees On the occasion of World Environment Day and the anniversary of the 1967 occupation
(Ramallah, June 5, 2016) - Coinciding with the 49th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Sinai, and the Golan Heights, the World today reviving the World Environment Day; World Environment Day was first established to be celebrated every year by running some effective campaigns by the United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the conference on Human Environment in Swedish capital Stockholm in 1972.
The World Environment Day works as true inspiration for many countries, institutions and individuals around the world to start true activities to prevent the escalation of damage to the natural systems. (Ottawa – June 2, 2016) - Today, members of the National Farmers Union (NFU) join in solidarity with dairy farmers in concurrent rallies on Parliament Hill and in federal Agriculture Minister MacAulay's constituency, to celebrate International Milk Day, because "Canadian Milk Matters".
Farmers will call upon the federal government to take action to ensure a sustainable and prosperous dairy sector in Canada. They are asking the federal government to enforce existing rules governing supply management. The NFU is particularly concerned about diafiltered milk imports undermining our supply management system.

CAP 2020: More deregulation will not solve the problems... caused by deregulation and short-sighted decision-makers
Following the European agricultural ministers' informal Council meeting on 30 and 31 May in the Netherlands, the European Coordination Via Campesina1 examined the document "Food for the future - the future of food" proposed by the Dutch EU Presidency to kick-off discussions on the future of the CAP after 2020, as well as the Council's discussions.
Despite its announced openness to the food issue, ultimately, it is a very partial view of the problem that has emerged. The notion of "demand", centered on the needs of affluent consumers in terms of transparency, omits the issue of access to quality food for millions of poor people in Europe, and the health problems related to industrial food. The attention given to "production" disappointed as well, since it only concerns modernized farmers or those following that approach, as expressed in the passage on new ICTs.
