Rotate This has rules. Who gets to buy that rarest vinyl from the hidden back room? Which bands get to sell their demos on consignment? As a teen punk, Damian Abraham spent whole days in the indie record shop - riffling through the bins, trading gig flyers, catching free all-ages shows by his soon-to-be favourite out-of-town bands. Rotate's owner Brian Taylor still schools music obsessives like Damian from the shop's new location down the street, but there are no more gigs. For Damian this sucks. Now the singer of critically acclaimed hardcore heroes Fucked Up (who generally play anywhere they damned well please). Damian has passed all Brian's tests but he's got one Rotate dream left: play a gig in the shop like the bands he grew up on. How can he convince them? Featuring a rare sighting of the infamously camera-shy Taylor and live performance that may or may not have all been a dream...

In the latest episode of our Canadian Cannabis series, we take a look at how Canada is missing out on an economic windfall by continuing down a path of restrictive marijuana policies.
Fucked Up's Damian Abraham, a medical marijuana user and overall weed enthusiast, went out to Vancouver and Denver to compare the grey market of dispensaries in British Columbia (which are now in the crosshairs of the federal government) to Denver's regulated legal weed economy.
He meets with weed entrepreneurs in both cities and chats with the decision makers who are trying to make pot easy to get on both sides of the border.

Cannabis in Canada is still widely illegal. With a new government entering parliament in 2016, the odds of legalization, further criminalization or decriminalization of marijuana coming to fruition are still to be determined. But despite that, black market growers and grey market marijuana dispensaries are more prevalent than ever. And the sometimes dangerous, and legally dubious process of manufacturing weed oils and other concentrates is rising with growers investing tens of thousands of dollars to make sheets of potent pot wax.
With the legal fate of weed still in the balance, VICE host Damian Abraham went to BC, the Wild West of Canadian chronic, visited grows operating illegally or semi-legally, met concentrate manufacturers making large quantities of oil in spite of the law, and checked in on the exploding dispensary scene that the federal Conservative government is trying to shut down.

Abraham (Hebrew: 
אַבְרָהָם (help·info), Modern: Avraham, Tiberian: ʼAḇrāhām, Ashkenazi Avrohom or Avruhom, Arabic: إبراهيم Ibrāhīm, Ge'ez: አብርሃም ʼAbrəham, Greek: Aβραάμ, Russian: Авраам), whose birth name was Abram, is the eponym of the Abrahamic religions, among which are Judaism, Christianity and Islam. According to both the Hebrew Bible and the Qur'an, through his sons Ishmael and Isaac, Abraham is the forefather of many tribes, namely the Ishmaelites, Israelites, Midianites and Edomites. Abraham was a descendant of Noah's son, Shem. Christians believe that Jesus was a descendant of Abraham through Isaac, and Muslims believe that Muhammad was a descendant of Abraham through Ishmael. Abraham is notable for his advocation and promotion of monotheism.
The Book of Genesis narrative that records the life of Abraham presents his role as one that could only be fulfilled through a monotheistic covenant established between him and God. The Qur'an has stories about Abraham and his offspring that are similar to the Bible's. In Islam, Abraham is recognised as a prophet, patriarch and messenger, archetype of the perfect Muslim, and reformer of the Kaaba.

Director: Anita Doron, 2009 Rotate This has rules. Who gets to buy that rarest vinyl from the hidden back room? Which bands get to sell their demos on consignment? As a teen punk, Damian Abraham spent whole days in the indie record shop - riffling through the bins, trading gig flyers, catching free all-ages shows by his soon-to-be favourite out-of-town bands. In the latest episode of our Canadian Cannabis series, we take a look at how Canada is missing out on an economic windfall by continuing down a path of restrictive marijuana policies.
Fucked Up's Damian Abraham, a medical marijuana user and overall weed enthusiast, went out to Vancouver and Denver to compare the grey market of dispensaries in British Columbia (which are now in the crosshairs of the federal government) to Denver's regulated legal weed economy.
He meets with weed entrepreneurs in both cities and chats with the decision makers who are trying to make pot easy to get on both sides of the border.

But despite that, black market growers and grey market marijuana dispensaries are more prevalent than ever. And the sometimes dangerous, and legally dubious process of manufacturing weed oils and other concentrates is rising with growers investing tens of thousands of dollars to make sheets of potent pot wax.
With the legal fate of weed still in the balance, VICE host Damian Abraham went to BC, the Wild West of Canadian chronic, visited grows operating illegally or semi-legally, met concentrate manufacturers making large quantities of oil in spite of the law, and checked in on the exploding dispensary scene that the federal Conservative government is trying to shut down.

This show was a bit chaotic to record but one of the most fun. Recorded on a Canon 7D, GoPro HD, Zoom H4n (PA audio), and a Roland R-26. Audio and video are a little rough during the first song due to trying to getting everything dialed in and securing a safe hiding spot behind the PA.
Special thanks to the guy at the 25:05m mark for giving me the heads up that my GoPro camera was about to meet a certain doom from Damian's flying microphone cord. Other fun stuff to look for: children, Jonah losing his crash cymbal, Damian playing 2nd cameraman, candy throwing, picture posing, enthusiasm, and shoe buying tips.

Esther Hicks, who channels Abraham, was excluded from the mainstream distribution of the movie, The Secret because the director, Rhonda Byrne felt that people might not be ready to understand that we are all constantly connected to Source Energy and that the Law of Attraction is based on our energy vibration.
Oprah, while she loves Abraham, felt that the general public would be “weirded out” by channelling, so she didn’t invite Esther onto her TV Show. Instead, she interviewed Esther on her radio show geared towards a more spiritually awake audience.
Nevertheless, Oprah continues her exploration of The Secret phenomenon with Esther Hicks, co-author of The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham. Esther is a best-selling author and an inspirational speaker who says she dialogues with or “channels” a group of spiritual teachers collectively known as “Abraham.” Esther refers to the material that she channels as “Abraham-Hicks.” During the show, Oprah has the opportunity to talk to these spiritual teachers, or Abraham, as Esther channels their wisdom. Esther explains to Oprah how she channels Abraham—”I just relax and quiet my mind,” Esther says. “I usually focus on my breathing, and within a few seconds I feel the energy of Abraham, a collective consciousness.” Although Oprah doesn’t know what to expect during the actual channeling session, she discovers that the only apparent change with Esther is a slight variation in the tenor and cadence of her speech pattern. Esther shares with Oprah what she says Abraham can bring to people’s lives. “Everyone gets to create their own reality and Abraham’s not interested in telling us what we should create—they’re only interested in showing how we go about creating what our life path is about,” Esther says. Quoting directly from The Law of Attraction, Oprah summarizes the basic lessons of Abraham. “Once you understand that all people, circumstances and events are invited into your experience by you, through your thought, you will begin to live your life as you intended when you made the decision to come forth into this physical body,” Oprah says. “And so, an understanding of the powerful Law of Attraction, coupled with an intention to deliberately create your own life experience, will ultimately lead you to the unparalleled freedom that can only come from a complete understanding and application of the art of allowing.”

Esther Hicks, who channels Abraham, was excluded from the mainstream distribution of the movie, The Secret because the director, Rhonda Byrne felt that people might not be ready to understand that we are all constantly connected to Source Energy and that the Law of Attraction is based on our energy vibration.
Oprah, while she loves Abraham, felt that the general public would be “weirded out” by channelling, so she didn’t invite Esther onto her TV Show. Instead, she interviewed Esther on her radio show geared towards a more spiritually awake audience.
Nevertheless, Oprah continues her exploration of The Secret phenomenon with Esther Hicks, co-author of The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham. Esther is a best-selling author and an inspirational speaker who says she dialogues with or “channels” a group of spiritual teachers collectively known as “Abraham.” Esther refers to the material that she channels as “Abraham-Hicks.” During the show, Oprah has the opportunity to talk to these spiritual teachers, or Abraham, as Esther channels their wisdom. Esther explains to Oprah how she channels Abraham—”I just relax and quiet my mind,” Esther says. “I usually focus on my breathing, and within a few seconds I feel the energy of Abraham, a collective consciousness.” Although Oprah doesn’t know what to expect during the actual channeling session, she discovers that the only apparent change with Esther is a slight variation in the tenor and cadence of her speech pattern. Esther shares with Oprah what she says Abraham can bring to people’s lives. “Everyone gets to create their own reality and Abraham’s not interested in telling us what we should create—they’re only interested in showing how we go about creating what our life path is about,” Esther says. Quoting directly from The Law of Attraction, Oprah summarizes the basic lessons of Abraham. “Once you understand that all people, circumstances and events are invited into your experience by you, through your thought, you will begin to live your life as you intended when you made the decision to come forth into this physical body,” Oprah says. “And so, an understanding of the powerful Law of Attraction, coupled with an intention to deliberately create your own life experience, will ultimately lead you to the unparalleled freedom that can only come from a complete understanding and application of the art of allowing.”

You might not know who Arjan Roskam is, but you've probably smoked his weed. Arjan's been breeding some of the most famous marijuana strains in the world—like White Widow, Super Silver Haze, and many others—for over 20 years.
In 1992 he opened his first coffee shop in Amsterdam and has since crafted his marijuana-breeding skills into a market-savvy empire known as Green House Seed Company, which rakes in millions of dollars a year.
He's won 38 Cannabis Cups and has dubbed himself the King of Cannabis.
VICE joins Arjan and his crew of strain hunters in Colombia to look for three of the country's rarest types of weed, strains that have remained genetically pure for decades. In grower's terms, these are called landraces. We trudge up mountains and crisscross military checkpoints in the country's still-violent south, and then head north to the breathtaking Caribbean coast. As the dominoes of criminalization fall throughout the world, Arjan is positioned to be at the forefront of the legitimate international seed trade.
