One of the first discoveries of the space age, made in 1958, was that the Earth is surrounded with a doughnut-shaped field of highly charged particles. It was named the Van Allen radiation belt, after its discoverer, U.S. space scientist James Van Allen. But not much was known about it until NASA launched two probes in 2012. Scientists say the data they sent back to earth is very exciting. VOA’s George Putic reports.

Recently the pro-NASA side have attempted to downplay James Van Allen's original dire warnings about short-term exposure to the belts and twist his words to suit their agenda. Van Allen Hall is named after James Van Allen, a University of Iowa space science alumnus who made many advances in the field. His discoveries found from his satellite projects are still used today.

A field of radiation that surrounds the planet with 25,000 miles in length. No organic unit can go through this field of radiation which as shown here, it was felt about 600 miles away from it. If the ill effects of the Van Allen Radiation Belt were felt 600 miles away from it, what makes you think that you can withstand 25,000 miles of traveling through it?
We can send machines; and that's how we got the moon rock pictures etc.. we also send machines to Mars, Saturn and other places.
If it’s NOT possible to presently pass through these deadly radiation belts, how was it possible for the Apollo to pass through and land on the moon without any danger to the astronauts in 1969? They didn’t have the technology to do so, as the following article seems to indicate.

The two satellites, each weighing just less than 1,500 pounds, comprise the first dual-spacecraft mission specifically created to investigate this hazardous regions of near-Earth space, known as the radiation belts. Such knowledge helps with the job of understanding the belts well enough to protect nearby spacecraft and astronauts.

Awe130 claims that Dr. James Van Allen, who discovered the radiation belts around the earth in 1958, had "concerns" in December 1968, after ten years of study, about sending men to the moon. His video simply shows an excerpt from an interview with the Apollo 8 astronauts, Frank F. Borman, II, William A. Anders, and James A. Lovell, Jr. Awe130 says that his video proves "that Dr van Allen till the last moment was convinced that [the Apollo 8 crew] would get fried by the radiation [in his ionosphere belts]." Or, does it? What were the Apollo 8 astronauts actually talking about?
Please rest assured, that any questions asked in my video, will have easy answers once you have examined the facts.
In the official medical record, the doctors assumed that Borman had a short bout of stomach flu. Now we know that his illness was "space sickness." But, if you were Dr. Van Allen or one of the doctors supporting the Apollo 8 program, wouldn't you possibly consider, even for a fleeting moment, that Borman may have been reacting to something else, while traveling through the ionosphere?

These two nearly identical spacecraft launched in August 2012 and with only six months in operation, they may well be rewriting science textbooks. The probes study the Van Allen belts, gigantic radiation belts surrounding Earth, which can swell dramatically in response to incoming energy from the sun, engulfing satellites and spacecraft and creating potential threats to manned space flight.
James Van Allen discovered the radiation belts during the 1958 launch of the first successful U.S. satellite. Subsequent missions have observed parts of the belts, but what causes the dynamic variation in the region has remained something of a mystery.

It was impossible to land on the Moon in 1969 - but the scientific facts were IRRELEVANT in comparison to a conflict between the US and the Soviet Union - it was all about winning the most important Propaganda War for the perception of military mastery of the World - with the next step to launch satellites merely around earth for military purposes.

The majority f the US public are totally ignorant of the hugely dangerous to man the radiation belt in space known as the Van Allen Belt. [The International Space Station (ISS) is not as high as the radioactive Van Allen Belt].
A Van Allen radiation belt is one of at least two layers of energetic charged particles (plasma) around our planet EARTH, held in place by its magnetic field. The belts extend from an altitude of about 1,000 to 60,000 kms [500 miles - 37,000 miles] above the surface of the Earth [whereas the Moon is some 240,000 miles away], in which region radiation levels vary. It is thought that most of the particles that form the belts come from solar wind, and other particles by cosmic rays. The belts are named after their discoverer, James Van Allen, and are located in the inner region of the Earth's magnetosphere. The belts contain energetic electrons forming the outer belt and a combination of protons and electrons forming the inner belt. In addition, the radiation belts contain lesser amounts of other nuclei, such as alpha particles. The belts pose a severe hazard to satellites, which must protect their sensitive components with adequate shielding if their orbit spends significant time in the radiation belts. In 2013, a transient third radiation belt, discovered by the Van Allen Probes, was reported by NASA. The third belt was observed for a mere 4 (four) weeks until it was DESTROYED by a powerful interplanetary shock wave from the SUN [our own star - some 93 Million (93,000,000) miles away].

These two nearly identical spacecraft launched in August 2012 and with only six months in operation, they may well be rewriting science textbooks. The probes study the Van Allen belts, gigantic radiation belts surrounding Earth, which can swell dramatically in response to incoming energy from the sun, engulfing satellites and spacecraft and creating potential threats to manned space flight. If it’s NOT possible to presently pass through these deadly radiation belts, how was it possible for the Apollo to pass through and land on the moon without any danger to the astronauts in 1969? They didn’t have the technology to do so, as the following article seems to indicate.

The majority f the US public are totally ignorant of the hugely dangerous to man the radiation belt in space known as the Van Allen Belt. [The International Space Station (ISS) is not as high as the radioactive Van Allen Belt].
A Van Allen radiation belt is one of at least two layers of energetic charged particles (plasma) around our planet EARTH, held in place by its magnetic field. The belts extend from an altitude of about 1,000 to 60,000 kms [500 miles - 37,000 miles] above the surface of the Earth [whereas the Moon is some 240,000 miles away], in which region radiation levels vary. It is thought that most of the particles that form the belts come from solar wind, and other particles by cosmic rays. The belts are named after their discoverer, James Van Allen, and are located in the inner region of the Earth's magnetosphere. The belts contain energetic electrons forming the outer belt and a combination of protons and electrons forming the inner belt. In addition, the radiation belts contain lesser amounts of other nuclei, such as alpha particles. The belts pose a severe hazard to satellites, which must protect their sensitive components with adequate shielding if their orbit spends significant time in the radiation belts. In 2013, a transient third radiation belt, discovered by the Van Allen Probes, was reported by NASA. The third belt was observed for a mere 4 (four) weeks until it was DESTROYED by a powerful interplanetary shock wave from the SUN [our own star - some 93 Million (93,000,000) miles away].

It was impossible to land on the Moon in 1969 - but the scientific facts were IRRELEVANT in comparison to a conflict between the US and the Soviet Union - it was all about winning the most important Propaganda War for the perception of military mastery of the World - with the next step to launch satellites merely around earth for military purposes.
There is no intention to ever pretend to launch manned missions to the Moon or to pretend to return to the Moon as it is technically and scientifically impossible!
The majority f the US public are totally ignorant of the hugely dangerous to man the radiation belt in space known as the Van Allen Belt. [The International Space Station (ISS) is not as high as the radioactive Van Allen Belt].
A Van Allen radiation belt is one of at least two layers of energetic charged particles (plasma) around our planet EARTH, held in place by its magnetic field. The belts extend from an altitude of about 1,000 to 60,000 kms [500 miles - 37,000 miles] above the surface of the Earth [whereas the Moon is some 240,000 miles away], in which region radiation levels vary. It is thought that most of the particles that form the belts come from solar wind, and other particles by cosmic rays. The belts are named after their discoverer, James Van Allen, and are located in the inner region of the Earth's magnetosphere. The belts contain energetic electrons forming the outer belt and a combination of protons and electrons forming the inner belt. In addition, the radiation belts contain lesser amounts of other nuclei, such as alpha particles. The belts pose a severe hazard to satellites, which must protect their sensitive components with adequate shielding if their orbit spends significant time in the radiation belts. In 2013, a transient third radiation belt, discovered by the Van Allen Probes, was reported by NASA. The third belt was observed for a mere 4 (four) weeks until it was DESTROYED by a powerful interplanetary shock wave from the SUN [our own star - some 93 Million (93,000,000) miles away].

The space around the Earth is filled with fast moving particles trapped in two “belts” by our magnetic field. The belts were named the “Van Allen radiation belts” in 1958 in honor of their discoverer, James Van Allen.
Earth-orbiting satellites can be damaged or even lost due to increased high-energy electron fluxes in the Earth’s radiation belts. Craig Rodger from New Zealand studies how these high energy particles are lost into the polar atmosphere using the AARDDVARK network located in the Arctic and Antarctic. Craig discussed this research during a LASP public lecture on October 7th, 2015.
