A Million Voices

A Million Voices (AMV) is a non-profit charity organisation based in Arendal, Norway, but operating in Manila, Philippines. The organisation, founded in December 2007 by then 21-year-old student Charlotte Isabel Johansen, is a non-governmental organisation (NGO), and receives no subsidies from any governments or political parties. It is dependent on donations from individuals and businesses, and the help of volunteers for its projects.

Goals and vision

A Million Voices' vision is "Giving a Voice to the Millions Silenced by Poverty". More concise, the organisation focuses on helping children from poor families, or homeless children in Manila. Instead of giving away money, the organisation hands out food, school supplies, clothes, health care and dental care. AMV offers a scholarship program, where donors fund one year of school for a child - which includes everything a child would need for the year. Other projects aims at self-help by teaching people a livelihood, in which they can support their families without relying on charity.

Million Voices

"Million Voices" is a single by Swedish DJ and producer Otto Knows. The song was released in Belgium as a digital download on May 31, 2012. The song has charted in Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Sweden. It was written and produced by Otto Knows and was sampled from Wyclef Jean's song "Million Voices"

Music video

An accompanying music video for the song was released in November 2012. It was filmed in Lésigny, Seine-et-Marne, France.

Polina Gagarina

Polina Sergeyevna Gagarina (Russian: Полина Сергеевна Гагарина, born 27 March 1987) is a Russian singer, songwriter, actress, and model. She represented Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with "A Million Voices" where she finished second. She is currently a coach on the Russian version of The Voice.

Life and career

Gagarina was born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, USSR but spent most of her youth in Greece. Her mother was a ballet dancer. In 1993, Gagarina's father died and her mother decided to move the family back to Russia. However, they soon moved back to Greece and settled in Athens. After completing her education, she moved to Saratov to live with her grandmother.

2003–07: Попроси у облаков

In 2003, Gagarina competed in season two of Star Factory, a Russian reality singing competition. She performed several songs by Maxim Fadeev and went on to win the show, but refused to work with Fadeev after her victory. After winning Star Factory, Gagarina was invited to perform in the group Playgirls. The group received a recording contract with ARS Records, but ultimately disbanded. In 2005, she performed at the New Wave competition held in Jūrmala, Latvia and placed third. She later released the singles "Kolybelnaya", "Morning", "Ya tvoya", "Pomnyu", and "Ya tebya ne proshchu nikogda". Her début album Попроси у облаков was released in 2007.

Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest (French: Concours Eurovision de la chanson), often shortened to ESC or Eurovision, is the longest-running annual TV song competition, held, primarily, among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 1956. The competition was based upon the existing Sanremo Music Festival held in Italy.

Each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition. The contest has been broadcast every year for sixty years, since its inauguration in 1956, and is one of the longest-running television programmes in the world. It is also one of the most watched non-sporting events in the world, with audience figures having been quoted in recent years as anything between 100 million and 600 million internationally. Eurovision has also been broadcast outside Europe to several countries that do not compete, such as the USA and China. An exception was made in 2015, when Australia was allowed to compete as a guest entrant as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the event. In November 2015, the EBU announced that Australia would return in 2016. Since 2000, the contest has also been broadcast over the Internet, via the Eurovision website.
