Cardboard city (Serbian: Картон сити, Karton siti) was an informal settlement, or locally classified as unhygienic settlement, basically a slum in the capital of Serbia. It was located in Belgrade's municipality of Novi Beograd. The settlement was completely evicted and cleared in 2009.
Most of the houses in the Cardboard city were built, as its name suggests, from cardboard or other non-building materials, like plywood or nylon bags. The settlement had no communal infrastructure (roads, running water, sewage, electricity).
The settlement was located beneath the bridges Gazela and Stari železnički. The settlement was just a few kilometers away from the downtown Belgrade, close to the Block 19 and Block 20, and in contrast to five-star hotels Hyatt Regency Belgrade and Continental Hotel Belgrade.
There were 986 people living in the Cardboard city (501 men; 485 women) of whom 278 were children living in 237 "households" according to the census taken by the city authorities in August 2007.
Fort Collins is the Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Larimer County, Colorado, United States. Situated on the Cache La Poudre River along the Colorado Front Range, Fort Collins is located 65 miles (105 km) north of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver. With a 2014 estimated population of 156,480, it is the fourth most populous city in Colorado after Denver, Colorado Springs, and Aurora. Fort Collins is a midsize college city, home to Colorado State University.
Fort Collins was founded as a military outpost of the United States Army in 1864. It succeeded a previous encampment, known as Camp Collins, on the Cache La Poudre River, near what is known today as Laporte. Camp Collins was erected during the Indian wars of the mid-1860s to protect the Overland mail route that had been recently relocated through the region. Travelers crossing the county on the Overland Trail would camp there, but a flood destroyed the camp in June 1864. Afterward, the commander of the fort wrote to the commandant of Fort Laramie in southeast Wyoming, Colonel William O. Collins, suggesting that a site several miles farther down the river would make a good location for the fort. The post was manned originally by two companies of the 11th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry and never had walls.
Caillou (French pronunciation: [kaˈju]) is a Canadian educational children's television series that was first shown on Télétoon and Teletoon, with its first episode airing on the former channel on September 15, 1997; the show later moved to Treehouse TV, with its final episode being shown on that channel on October 3, 2010. The series is based on the books by Hélène Desputeaux. It centers on a 4-year-old boy named Caillou who is fascinated by the world around him.
Caillou lives in a blue house on 17 Pine Street (as mentioned in the episode "Where I Live") with his mother, father, and his younger sister, Rosie. He has many adventures with his family and friends and uses his imagination in every episode.
Each episode in Seasons 1–3 has a theme and is divided into several short sections that mix animation, puppet skits, and video of kids in real-life situations. In Seasons 4–5, episodes are divided in 3 short sections; the puppet segment was dropped, along with the "Real Kids" version of the segment.
Google Cardboard is a virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) platform developed by Google for use with a head mount for a mobile phone. Named for its fold-out cardboard viewer, the platform is intended as a low-cost system to encourage interest and development in VR and AR applications. Users can either build their own viewer from simple, low-cost components using specifications published by Google, or purchase one manufactured by a third-party. The platform was created by David Coz and Damien Henry, Google engineers at the Google Cultural Institute in Paris, in their 20% "Innovation Time Off". It was introduced at the Google I/O 2014 developers conference for Android devices, with a release to iOS at the following year's event. Through January 2016, over 5 million Cardboard viewers had shipped and over 1,000 compatible applications had been published.
Google Cardboard headsets are built out of simple, low-cost components. The headset specifications were designed by Google, but there is no official manufacturer or vendor for the device. Instead, Google made the list of parts, schematics, and assembly instructions freely available on their website, allowing people to assemble Cardboard themselves from readily available parts. These parts are a piece of cardboard cut into a precise shape, 45 mm focal length lenses, magnets or capacitive tape, a hook and loop fastener (such as Velcro), a rubber band, and an optional near field communication (NFC) tag. Google provides extra recommendations for large scale manufacturing, and pre-assembled kits based on these plans are available for less than US$5 from multiple vendors, who have also created a number of Cardboard variations.
Soon throwing cardboard in with the rest of your trash will be a thing of the past. The Fort Collins City Council is supporting a supposed ban on cardboard from the waste stream. If the ban is passed into law, it would require both residents and businesses to recycle their cardboard waster instead of throwing away with the rest of their garbage. Under the ordinance, if garbage men see that 25% or more of the contents of a trash bin is cardboard, they would not be allowed to pick it up. The goal if this new regulation is to reduce the amount of cardboard that ends up in the local landfill. 12,000 tons of cardboard is generated in Fort Collins each year but only about 4000 of that is recycled. Senior Environmental Planner Susie Gordon says that cardboard is a major problem in the landfill. ...

1985 GLC road safety PIF. This one starts out like a bit of jolly old fun. Instruct your child about road safety in a gentle, caring manner with GLC’s colourful collection of books and cardboard toys. Isn’t that sweet? It almost brings a tear to your eye. However, the PIF quickly segues into menacing territory by cutting to one of the cardboard cut-outs getting knocked down, followed by a shot of that chalk corpse outline you’ve seen in every cop show. Educate your child before he gets killed. Hurry, hurry! Do it now! It’s funny, because GLC died by about 1986, so this whole book promotion thing never even lasted. Lord knows how valuable those books must be now, and that’s if they were even published in the first place. I imagine the first couple must exist somewhere, so it’s up to you P...

Caillou has nobody to play with, so he recruits Gilbert his cat. He tries to get Gilbert to play his favourite games, but Gilbert isn’t interested in the slightest. When Mom points out that Caillou’s been trying to get the cat to play people games, he realizes that Gilbert probably wants to play kitty cat games. That works Caillou is tossing and turning. No matter what he does he just can’t get to sleep. It’s summer and his curtains are at the cleaners. Luckily Grandma has a wonderful idea: She makes a cardboard cutout night sky to put against the window. It darkens the room and projects the moon and the stars onto his walls and ceiling. Caillou falls asleep in no time. One day in the park Caillou is scared by a stranger’s dog, so he’s very nervous when he visits Grandma’s house and discov...

Hands locked in darkness - a nocturnal greeting
We flutter like moths round the brazier's flame
Shrouded in shadow - our clandestine meeting
Here where past and present are one and the same.
No-one dies in Cardboard City
Faces only fade away
Eat your pride and take their pity
Fight to live another day.
And did those feet in ancient times
Walk bare upon these lonely streets like mine?
Does God watch us from that penthouse high above
His children down below who live on air and love?
Wrapped in old headlines beneath this shop awning
I shiver in silence and wait for the morning.
No-one cries in Cardboard City
That would be a waste of tears
Eat your pride and take their pity
Like you have so many years.
Youth of our nation - A lost generation
Like lepers we march to the chimes of Big Ben.
Exiled and rejected by powers elected
Our cries from the gutter don't reach number ten.
Give us this day our daily bread
Before the headlines read "bring out your dead."
Chip-wrapper flowers are blown onto this cardboard grave
My spray paint epitaph upon the wall it says...
"Here lies the bones of some poor homeless vagrant
He died as he lived, in the shit on the pavement."
No-one dies in Cardboard City
Faces only fade away
Eat your pride and take their pity
Fight to live another day.
No-one cries in Cardboard City
That would be a waste of tears
Eat your pride and take their pity
