Seventeen Send Their 'First Love&Letter' to Top 5 of World & Heatseekers Album Charts
The bigger the better, right? After a huge start to their first year on the scene that included a chart-topping EP and a place on Billboard's 21 Under 21 for 2016 list, Seventeen earns even more accolades with their latest release, First Love&Letter.
The 13-member boy band -- the largest currently promoting in Korea -- released their first full-length album and it starts at No. 3 on World Albums this week while also debuting at No. 5 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. This is the group's first appearance on Heatseekers (that sees far less K-pop acts) while it's their third showing in the Top 10 of World Albums (2015's 17 Carat peaked at No. 8 and Boys Be hit No. 1).
Seventeen's First Love&Letter is largely created by the Seventeen boys themselves with the members writing or co-writing every track, and composing or co-composing almost every track. Artists being so involved in the production of their music is rare in K-pop with Seventeen standing out as one of the few acts who take a heavy hand not only in their music compositions, but the group also stages and choreographs their live shows.
First Love&Letter is promoted by the single "Pretty U," which makes it way onto Billboard's World Digital Songs chart at No. 3 marking the act's highest ranking on the chart as the sole lead artist following five previous efforts: "OMG" (an album track which peaked at No. 23), "Fronting" (No. 21), "Rock" (No. 19), "Adore U" (their debut single peaked at No. 13), and "Mansae" (their second official single hit No. 5). The group's collaboration with K-pop diva Ailee, "Q&A," only charted better at No. 3.
Seventeen will make their first U.S. appearance when they perform at the East Coast date of K-pop festival and convention KCON 2016 New York this June. The group joins the likes of BTS, MAMAMOO, and their "Q&A" collaborator Ailee at the show that's set for June 24 and 45, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
