Studio (TV channel)

STUDIO was a subscription television arts channels available in Australia on the FOXTEL and AUSTAR platforms.

The channel launched in April 2010 as STVDIO, and is owned and operated by SBS Subscription TV, a subsidiary of free-to-air broadcaster Special Broadcasting Service.

STUDIO is Australia's only channel dedicated to the arts and entertainment and themed nights. It shows classical and popular music, literature, film, visual arts and dance with documentaries and performances.

As part of a brand redesign in March 2012, the channel was renamed to STUDIO, suggested to be a more accessible name.

The channel was forced into closure on 27 March 2015 as they were unable to re-negotiate their contract with Foxtel, and was instead replaced with Foxtel-owned channel Foxtel Arts. As a result, a number of the channel's arts programming moved to SBS and its video on demand service.

The channel also records live local music, theatre and dance productions, known as the STUDIO Season Ticket.

Studio (also known as Studio.co.uk) is part of a multi-brand retailing company in the United Kingdom, which specialises in home shopping services. Based in Accrington in Lancashire, Studio is the online sector of Studio (formerly known as Studio Cards and Gifts). Currently, Studio produces 100 different publications, and mails over 63 million catalogues in a calendar year. Their customer base of 1.2 million people is geographically spread across the UK, with the highest concentration of customers residing in city areas. 89% of Studio’s customer base is female.

Due to Studio’s Autumn Winter catalogue being their biggest publication of the year and containing a high proportion of Christmas products, much of the company’s business is undertaken in the final third of the year.

Studio is owned by Findel plc Findel plc.; a British home shopping company based in West Yorkshire.

History

Founded in Preston in 1962, Studio originally specialised in paper products, such as greetings cards, and sold them through a mail order catalogue. Over time, the company expanded, and in 1974 they bought a company called Ace, selling a similar product range to that of Studio.

A studio apartment, also known as a studio flat (UK), a self-contained apartment (Nigeria),efficiency apartment or bachelor apartment, is a small apartment which combines living room, bedroom, and kitchenette into a single room.

Design

These kinds of apartments typically consist of one large room which serves as the living, dining, and bedroom. Kitchen facilities may either be located in the central room, or in a small separate room, and the bathroom is usually in its own smaller room.

Cost

Studio, efficiency, and bachelor style apartments all tend to be the smallest apartments with the lowest rents in a given area, usually ranging around 300 to 450 square feet (25–45 square metres) in the United States, but considerably smaller in countries such as Japan, South Korea, and several European capitals.

Gossip Candy

Gossip Candy is an extended play by Japanese recording artist and songwriter Kumi Koda. It was released on July 7, 2010, by Koda's record label, Rhythm Zone. Koda's fifth extended play, Gossip Candy consists of five recordings; Lollipop, Inside Fishbowl, Outside Fishbowl, For You, and a cover of Got to Be Real, originally performed by Cheryl Lynn. It was released in three different formats: Digital EP, CD and CD+DVD. The CD only version was re-released as the "Dream Music Park" edition with a bonus baseball cap. The Dream Music Park concert was later released on the CD+2DVD edition of Dejavu.

Gossip Candy contains predominantly pop-rock and dance music. Kumi contributed by writing the lyrics to all songs except Got to Be Real. Several composers were hired to help with the EP's content. Gossip Candy received favorable reviews from music critics who commended the EP's production and commercial appeal. It reached #4 on the Oricon Singles Chart and was certified gold by the RIAJ for shipments of 100,000 units.Lollipop, Inside Fishbowl, and Outside Fishbowl served as the promotional singles. Lollipop was certified platinum for 250,000 digital shipments.

Lollipop (1958 song)

"Lollipop" is a pop song written by Julius Dixson and Beverly Ross in 1958. It was first recorded by the duo Ronald & Ruby — Ross herself was "Ruby" — and then covered more successfully by The Chordettes. Dixson's name is sometimes spelled "Dixon".

The song is a firm favorite amongst many performing barbershop music.

Origins

The song originated when Julius Dixson was late for a songwriting session with Beverly Ross. He explained that his daughter had gotten a lollipop stuck in her hair, and that had caused him to be late. Ross was so inspired by the word "lollipop" that she sat down at the piano and produced a version of the song on the spot. Beverly Ross recorded a demo of the song with Ronald Gumm, a 13-year-old neighbor of Dixson, under the name Ronald & Ruby. Ross' mother insisted that she use a pseudonym for safety reasons, because they were an interracial duo.

RCA got hold of it and Dixson, who owned the master and had produced the demo, agreed to let them release it. Ronald and Ruby's version rose up the chart reaching #20.

Lollipop (Lil Wayne song)

"Lollipop" is the first single from Lil Wayne's sixth studio album, Tha Carter III. The track features R&B artist Static Major and is produced by Deezle and Jim Jonsin. It interpolates the theme song from the 2007 film 28 Weeks Later and heavily utilizes the Auto-Tune vocal effect. The song was released digitally on March 13, 2008.

"Lollipop" is Lil Wayne's & Static Major's most successful to date, spending 5 non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Static Major died two weeks before the release of the song, making the song the eighth to hit #1 after the death of a credited artist. There are various versions of the song. The single was certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA for selling 5 million units in the United States and was ranked the #1 Hip-Hop song of 2008 by MTV. The song reached #1 on the 2008 issue of Notarized by BET. The song was ranked at #1 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008. With 9.1 million copies sold as of January 2009, "Lollipop" was named 2008's best-selling digital single worldwide by IFPI.
