Walk the Line is a 2005 American biographical drama film directed by James Mangold and based on the early life and career of country music artist Johnny Cash. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Robert Patrick.
The film focuses on Cash's early life, his romance with June Carter, and his ascent to the country music scene, as based on his autobiographies. The screenplay was written by Mangold and Gill Dennis. The film's production budget is estimated to have been US$28 million.
Walk the Line previewed at the Telluride Film Festival on September 4, 2005, and went into wide release on November 18. The film was nominated for five Oscars at the 78th Academy Awards, including Best Actor (Phoenix), Best Actress (Witherspoon, which she won), and Best Costume Design (Arianne Phillips). The film grossed more than $186 million worldwide.
The film opens in 1968, as an audience of inmates at Folsom State Prison cheer for Johnny Cash's band as he waits backstage near a table saw, reminding him of his early life.

He received international attention for his portrayal of Commodus in the 2000 historical epic film Gladiator, which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He has subsequently earned Best Actor nominations for portraying musician Johnny Cash in the biopic Walk the Line (2005) and for his role as Freddie Quell, a sex-obsessed alcoholic World War II veteran in the drama film The Master (2012). To this date, he and River Phoenix hold the distinction of being the first and only brothers to get nominated for acting Academy Awards. Some of his other notable films include the satire film Buffalo Soldiers (2001), the science fiction thriller Signs (2002), the animated film Brother Bear (2003), the historical drama film Hotel Rwanda (2004), the psychological thriller The Village (2004), the documentary Earthlings (2005), the romantic drama Two Lovers (2008), the drama The Immigrant (2013), the romantic science fiction drama Her (2013) and the crime comedy-drama film Inherent Vice (2014).

Following breakout roles in Desperate Choices: To Save My Child (1992) and Jack the Bear, she starred in the comedy-drama Pleasantville (1998), for which she won the Young Hollywood Award for Breakthrough Performance. Her leading role in the now-iconic role of Tracy Flick in Election was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Comedy or Musical
Witherspoon's breakthrough role came in 2001 in Legally Blonde, in the famous role of Elle Woods, for which she received international recognition and her second Golden Globe nomination. The following year, she starred in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002), which emerged as her biggest live-action commercial success. In 2005, Witherspoon received worldwide attention for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line, which earned her the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress. Her other films include Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003), Monsters vs. Aliens (2009) and Water for Elephants (2011). Walk the Line. A chronicle of country music legend Johnny Cash's life from his early days on an Arkansas cotton farm to his rise to fame with Sun Records in Memphis where he recorded alongside Elvis Presley Jerry Lee Lewis…
When you finally fade from those nights you spend
Doing god only knows with your new friends.
When you decide to come back you always can. Oh.
Our lives are seperate roads We've picked our seperate
ways
But this love I've found reminds me every day
That I still belive in you
I still have faith.
I have faith that you'll find your way.
And relize your mistakes. Cause I can't handle another
night alone.
And so I'm try'n to find words to convince you to stay.
Try'n to pick myself up
But you're getting away.
I keep falling down.
The words won't come out.
My tongue twists in circles keeps them trapped in my
mouth.
But I need the ocean or it's sand
Or the high that I felt when you first held my hand.
And honey I just can't feel right alone. Alone.
Is there hope for this?
Cause it's you that I miss.
And I can't handle another night alone.
~Instrumental Break~
Please stop the sound in the story line.
I'm falling apart
Watch me as I unravel tonight.
And sleep through my changing life.
Cause I can't handle another long goodbye.
Another sleepless night.
