Beijing is sinking at a fairly rapid rate of 11 cm a year, which is about 4.3 inches. When applying simple math, this indicates Beijing will sink over a foot every three years if this rate continues ... It is not as if the city as a whole drops these 4-plus inches all at once every year ... A probe into a fix for this problem started a few years back with an international team looking for ways to stabilize the ground under this city....
