A Rajput (from Sanskrit raja-putra, “son of a king”) is a member of one of the patrilineal clans of western, central, northern India and some parts of Pakistan. They claim to be descendants of ruling Hindu warrior classes of North India.^{[dubious – discuss]} Rajputs rose to prominence during the 6th to 12th centuries. Until the 20th century Rajputs ruled in the "overwhelming majority" of the princely states of Rajasthan and Surashtra, where the largest number of princely states were found.

The Rajput population and the former Rajput states are found spread through much of the subcontinent, particularly in north, west and central India. Populations are found in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Surashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra.

Rajput is from the Sanskrit word Raja-Putra (son of a king). The word is found in ancient texts, including the Vedas, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata.^{[citation needed]} It was used by the ancient Sanskrit grammarian Pāṇini in the 4th century BCE.^{[citation needed]} The word Kshatriya ("warrior") was used for the Vedic community of warriors and rulers. To differentiate royal warriors from other Kshatriyas the word Rajputra was used.^{[citation needed]} Rajputra eventually was shortened to Rajput; gradually it became a caste.^{[citation needed]} Rajputs claim descent from various mythological patrilineages, being Suryavanshi, Chandravanshi, Agnivanshi and Nagavanshi.^{[citation needed]}

Sushant Singh Rajput (born on January 21, 1986^{[citation needed]} in Delhi, India^{[citation needed]}) is an Indian television actor best known for playing the role of Preet in Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Manav in Pavitra Rishta and also known for his dancing skills post Zara Nachke Dikha and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4.^{[citation needed]}

Sushant, a Delhi-ite^{[citation needed]}, was born to the Rajput family^{[citation needed]} originally from Patna, Bihar^{[citation needed]}. He defied his parents to follow his dreams of joining the glamour industry, promising to return if things did not work out.^{[citation needed]} However, once he started, he had no reasons to look back at all. Today he is one of the biggest^{[citation needed]} stars on television, having made his mark as an excellent^{[citation needed]} actor and dancer.

Sushant turned to dance after he saw a performance by the troupe of choreographer Shiamak Dawar.^{[citation needed]} He joined that troupe and went on to perform in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and Filmfare Awards.^{[citation needed]} Upon his return he also joined Barry John's theatre classes.^{[citation needed]} Moving to Mumbai, Singh danced with Ashley Lobo's troupe, learned martial arts from Allan Amin and assisted Mohit Suri during the making of Raaz 2.^{[citation needed]} He continued his involvement in theatre during this period and was a member of Nadira Babbar's Ekjute theatre group.^{[citation needed]}

Aishwarya Rai, known also as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after her marriage (Tulu pronunciation [əjɕʋərjaː rəj]; born 1 November 1973) is an Indian film actress. She worked as a model before starting her acting career, and ultimately won the Miss World pageant in 1994. Rai has featured in films in various languages including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali.

Often cited by the media as the "most beautiful woman in the world", Rai made her acting debut with Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar (1997), and had her first commercial success in Jeans (1998). She found success in Bollywood with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002) and eventually won two Filmfare Awards in the Best Actress category.

She gained critical acclaim for her performances in offbeat, independent films such as Chokher Bali (2003), Raincoat (2004), and Provoked (2007). Rai has thus established herself as one of the leading contemporary actresses of Indian cinema.
