Mauritius in the Indian Ocean is know for its sparkling crystal and turquoise waters. The contrast of colours, cultures and tastes makes the island a location for an unforgettable holiday. Mauritius offers the opportunity to unparalleled luxury, a level of refinement that is ahead of many other other tropical holiday destinations. Mauritius was named after Dutch Prince Maurice Van Nassau.
Mauritius' white beaches are protected by a coral reef barrier that encircles almost all of the coastline, with the exception of the southern end, where it falls away and where wilder waters and dramatic cliffs can be observed. From the northern plains, the land rises to a central plateau dotted by lakes and extinct volcanic craters. A few uninhabited islets area are scattered around the main island.
Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, was founded by the French governor and colonist Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais in 1735. Situated on the north-west coast, Port Louis is the business and administrative capital of Mauritius. Packed with office-workers during the day, it quickly quietens down after office-hours allowing visitors to enjoy a night out along the famous Caudan Waterfront.
The south reveals a dramatically different landscape from the rest of the island: one typified by high cliffs in places that are battered by waves. These are created where the protective barrier of coral reef that surrounds Mauritius falls away on the seabed, so leaving the coastline exposed to a punishing Indian Ocean. But the south is not singularly about cliffs and rough waters. Further round the coastline, heading westwards, are an array of beautiful beaches and top-rate hotels and resorts, in up-and-coming areas such as Bel Ombre.
The eastern coastline of Mauritius is comprised of exquisite coves and emerald lagoons, permanently enhanced by a cool sea breeze: life goes by at a slow pace in the east whether you're a member of the fishing community or a holidaymaker. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the east is characterised by charming little villages with poetic names like Petite Julie, Mare d'Australia and Queen Victoria. It also plays home to some of the country's best beaches, including Belle Mare, where you will want to spend hours basking in the sun, glorying in the sight of the long stretch of white sand.
To the west and south west of Mauritius off Tamarin Bay or Flic en Flac, heading in the direction of Île aux Benitiers, you can see the dolphins that come to these waters to rest and breed. The Morne Mountain, with its historical links to slavery, can also be found in this region --as well as some fine hotels known for their wide choice of watersports. Slightly inland, in the hills around Chamarel, is the rum distillery that bears the name of the village. Here, you can learn about rum production and taste some of the delightful produce.
Inland & Central Plateau of Mauritius is the 'highlands' where you will discover the island's four other major towns. In Quatre Bornes, head for the local market if you want to do some bargain-hunting. In Curepipe, where it is generally cooler than elsewhere on the island, try visiting the botanical gardens. In the early evening the gardens of the Plaza -- the municipal theatre of the town of Rose Hill -- fill up with families who come to relax and enjoy an ice--cream. This is a heart-warming sight definitely worth beholding. Vacoas, meanwhile, is most renowned for its Gymkhana Golf Club the oldest in the southern hemisphere.

Mauritius is a fascinating, world-in-one-island slice of paradise. Its very name of conjures up images of tropical luxury and stupendous extravagance. The area of Mauritius is 2040 km2; its capital city is Port Louis.
The United Kingdom took control of the islands in 1810, from France during the Napoleonic Wars, and Mauritius became independent from the UK in 1968. It is a parliamentary republic and is a member of the Southern African Development Community, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, the African Union, La Francophonie and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Mauritius in the Indian Ocean is know for its sparkling crystal and turquoise waters. The contrast of colours, cultures and tastes makes the island a location for an unforgettable holiday. Mauritius offers the opportunity to unparalleled luxury, a level of refinement that is ahead of many other other tropical holiday destinations. Mauritius was named after Dutch Prince Maurice Van Nassau.
Mauritius' white beaches are protected by a coral reef barrier that encircles almost all of the coastline, with the exception of the southern end, where it falls away and where wilder waters and dramatic cliffs can be observed. From the northern plains, the land rises to a central plateau dotted by lakes and extinct volcanic craters. A few uninhabited islets area are scattered around the main island.
Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, was founded by the French governor and colonist Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais in 1735. Situated on the north-west coast, Port Louis is the business and administrative capital of Mauritius. Packed with office-workers during the day, it quickly quietens down after office-hours allowing visitors to enjoy a night out along the famous Caudan Waterfront.
The south reveals a dramatically different landscape from the rest of the island: one typified by high cliffs in places that are battered by waves. These are created where the protective barrier of coral reef that surrounds Mauritius falls away on the seabed, so leaving the coastline exposed to a punishing Indian Ocean. But the south is not singularly about cliffs and rough waters. Further round the coastline, heading westwards, are an array of beautiful beaches and top-rate hotels and resorts, in up-and-coming areas such as Bel Ombre.
The eastern coastline of Mauritius is comprised of exquisite coves and emerald lagoons, permanently enhanced by a cool sea breeze: life goes by at a slow pace in the east whether you're a member of the fishing community or a holidaymaker. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the east is characterised by charming little villages with poetic names like Petite Julie, Mare d'Australia and Queen Victoria. It also plays home to some of the country's best beaches, including Belle Mare, where you will want to spend hours basking in the sun, glorying in the sight of the long stretch of white sand.
To the west and south west of Mauritius off Tamarin Bay or Flic en Flac, heading in the direction of Île aux Benitiers, you can see the dolphins that come to these waters to rest and breed. The Morne Mountain, with its historical links to slavery, can also be found in this region --as well as some fine hotels known for their wide choice of watersports. Slightly inland, in the hills around Chamarel, is the rum distillery that bears the name of the village. Here, you can learn about rum production and taste some of the delightful produce.
Inland & Central Plateau of Mauritius is the 'highlands' where you will discover the island's four other major towns. In Quatre Bornes, head for the local market if you want to do some bargain-hunting. In Curepipe, where it is generally cooler than elsewhere on the island, try visiting the botanical gardens. In the early evening the gardens of the Plaza -- the municipal theatre of the town of Rose Hill -- fill up with families who come to relax and enjoy an ice--cream. This is a heart-warming sight definitely worth beholding. Vacoas, meanwhile, is most renowned for its Gymkhana Golf Club the oldest in the southern hemisphere.

Mauritius' white beaches are protected by a coral reef barrier that encircles almost all of the coastline, with the exception of the southern end, where it falls away and where wilder waters and dramatic cliffs can be observed. From the northern plains, the land rises to a central plateau dotted by lakes and extinct volcanic craters. A few uninhabited islets area are scattered around the main island.
Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, was founded by the French governor and colonist Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais in 1735. Situated on the north-west coast, Port Louis is the business and administrative capital of Mauritius. Packed with office-workers during the day, it quickly quietens down after office-hours allowing visitors to enjoy a night out along the famous Caudan Waterfront.
The south reveals a dramatically different landscape from the rest of the island: one typified by high cliffs in places that are battered by waves. These are created where the protective barrier of coral reef that surrounds Mauritius falls away on the seabed, so leaving the coastline exposed to a punishing Indian Ocean. But the south is not singularly about cliffs and rough waters. Further round the coastline, heading westwards, are an array of beautiful beaches and top-rate hotels and resorts, in up-and-coming areas such as Bel Ombre.
The eastern coastline of Mauritius is comprised of exquisite coves and emerald lagoons, permanently enhanced by a cool sea breeze: life goes by at a slow pace in the east whether you're a member of the fishing community or a holidaymaker. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the east is characterised by charming little villages with poetic names like Petite Julie, Mare d'Australia and Queen Victoria. It also plays home to some of the country's best beaches, including Belle Mare, where you will want to spend hours basking in the sun, glorying in the sight of the long stretch of white sand.
To the west and south west of Mauritius off Tamarin Bay or Flic en Flac, heading in the direction of Île aux Benitiers, you can see the dolphins that come to these waters to rest and breed. The Morne Mountain, with its historical links to slavery, can also be found in this region --as well as some fine hotels known for their wide choice of watersports. Slightly inland, in the hills around Chamarel, is the rum distillery that bears the name of the village. Here, you can learn about rum production and taste some of the delightful produce.
Inland & Central Plateau of Mauritius is the 'highlands' where you will discover the island's four other major towns. In Quatre Bornes, head for the local market if you want to do some bargain-hunting. In Curepipe, where it is generally cooler than elsewhere on the island, try visiting the botanical gardens. In the early evening the gardens of the Plaza -- the municipal theatre of the town of Rose Hill -- fill up with families who come to relax and enjoy an ice--cream. This is a heart-warming sight definitely worth beholding. Vacoas, meanwhile, is most renowned for its Gymkhana Golf Club the oldest in the southern hemisphere.

The island nation of Mauritius is seeking to establish a reputation as the "Singapore of Africa". The Mauritian government is continuing a policy of attracting foreign manufacturers, by promoting both the "expertise" of its well-educated, multi-lingual workforce, and the convenience of the island's location in the Indian Ocean. The approach has seen a turnaround in the country's economy. In the early 1980s, Mauritius had an unemployment rate of over 40 percent; now there is a
jobs surplus, and labour is being imported from countries like China.
A key to the rapid economic growth has been the development of a strong textile industry. Mauritius is also attracting overseas investors specialising in information technology, tempting them with - among other things - new state-of-the-art office buildings. Prior to the 1980s, Mauritius relied largely on its income from sugar, a crop easily damaged by cyclones and prone to price fluctuations. Sugar plantations
still cover much of the island, but they are no longer crucial to its economic
success.

Overnight
APPLE AND OAT POT
// Ingredients
1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1/2 cup Oats
1 Apple
1 tbsp Chia Seeds
Handful Unsalted Pistachios
Handful Rasins
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Glass Jar with Lid
1. Simply place all of the ingredients into the jar and mix.
2. Add a little more almond milk if needed, and shake the jar.
3. Keep in the fridge overnight, and then the oats and chia seeds would’ve soaked up the milk by the morning!
Long-Lasting
GRANOLA

2 cups Oats
1 cup Almonds
1 cup Pecans
1/2 cup Pumpkin Seeds
1 cup Mixed Dried Fruit (apricots, prunes, figs, raisins)
1/2 cup Coconut Chips
1/2 cup 100% Pure Maple Syrup
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
1. Pre Heat oven to 170 degrees celsius.
2. Melt the coconut oil in a saucepan over a low heat.
3. In a large bowl, mix together the melted coconut oil and maple syrup before stirring in the oats, almonds, pecans and pumpkin seeds.
4. Pour into a baking tray, and pat down so it’s evenly spread. Bake for 15 minutes.
5. Remove from oven and mix in the dried fruit and coconut chips and bake for a further 5 minutes or until golden.
6. Allow to cool, then transfer into an airtight container. Serve with almond milk or coconut yogurt topped with berries for a delicious breakfast.
Weekend Brunch
CREAMY GARLIC MUSHROOM ON TOAST
// Ingredients
5 Chestnut Mushrooms, sliced
1/4 can Coconut Milk (use the thick part)
1 Slice Rye Bread
1 Clove Garlic, minced
Squeeze Fresh Lemon
Fresh Chives
1 tsp Mixed Dried Herbs
Salt and Pepper to taste
Optional - 1/2 can Baked Beans
1. Fry the mushrooms and garlic with some coconut oil for about 5 minutes or until the mushrooms are cooked.
2. Pour in the coconut oil, lemon juice, dried herbs and salt and pepper and stir.
3. Cook for a few minutes until the sauce has reduced.
4. Heat the baked beans now if you are using.
5. Toast the rye bread. Slice in half and serve with the creamy mushrooms on top.
6. Roughly chop the chives and sprinkle over the top, with the baked beans served on the side.

We might enjoy the Sega dance and taste the teas from the Bois Cheri plantation. We might also take a Jeep Tour through the Black River National Park and take a look at the marvellous waterfall of Chamarel, while in the zoo the famous pink pigeon and the golden bat can be found. In the city there is the Blue Penny Museum and one of the worlds most beautiful tropical parks, the Pamplemousses Botanic Garden to visit.

Another well known here humorous, Mark Twain had this opinion more than a century ago. Huge fields of waving sugar cane beautiful fresh colors to delight the eye anywhere and everywhere. The jumble luxuriance of tropical flora with different shades of bright green, thick wild brush wood from which graceful palms emerge with there broken leaves then shaded forest was cheerfully bubbling to your streams which suddenly appear and later disappear. Playing a kind of hide and seek with people.
Then there are many small mountains, some strange picture rest cliff groups similar to toys, a nice small pocket Mattel horn. And here and there, we can see the white forming edge of the sea. For centuries, travelers have called Mauritius "the garden of Eden" ancestral dream, paradise on earth, shining star of the Indian Ocean and the list goes on and on. In its strange flag consisting a four horse saddle stripes, red is the color of freedom, blue is the ocean, yellow is the sun and green is the color of sugar cane.
The small island of 1,200,000 inhabitants is closest to Africa but even that is 2,000 kilometers away while the distance to the big neighbor Madagascar is 1,100 kilometers. Reunion which is under French authority is only 160 kilometers; so many people visit both islands traveling from one to the other either by ship or plane. Though the small Rodriguez Island of 108 square kilometers is three times as far away, it belongs to Mauritius, constituting its its 10th district.
As Mauritius is located near the tropic of Capricorn, it enjoys all the advantages of a sub-tropical climate. Here the summer last from December to June. The temperature at this time is around 30 degrees Celsius but the risk of heavier rain is larger. Between July and September, the temperature is an average of 24 degrees Celsius and the rainfall only amounts to a quarter of the quantity of the summer rains. And the second has a winter, the temperature rises.
On the 600 meters high central Plateau, the weather is always a bit colder than on the coast. The monsoon doesn't touch the island; cycle season is January and February. However, we only have to count on them approximately every 15 years.

The small island that is recently becoming independent soon realized that nobody would travel 15,000 kilometers to ride a jeep hole, so the coast actually consist of 50 connected luxury hotels and nature has brought wonderful climate, blue sky, light breeze, crystal clear warm water into the business.
Another well known here humorous, Mark Twain had this opinion more than a century ago. Huge fields of waving sugar cane beautiful fresh colors to delight the eye anywhere and everywhere. The jumble luxuriance of tropical flora with different shades of bright green, thick wild brush wood from which graceful palms emerge with there broken leaves then shaded forest was cheerfully bubbling to your streams which suddenly appear and later disappear. Then there are many small mountains, some strange picture rest cliff groups similar to toys, a nice small pocket Mattel horn. And here and there, we can see the white forming edge of the sea. For centuries, travelers have called Mauritius "the garden of Eden" ancestral dream, paradise on earth, shining star of the Indian Ocean and the list goes on and on. In its strange flag consisting a four horse saddle stripes, red is the color of freedom, blue is the ocean, yellow is the sun and green is the color of sugar cane.
The small island of 1,200,000 inhabitants is closest to Africa but even that is 2,000 kilometers away while the distance to the big neighbor Madagascar is 1,100 kilometers. Reunion which is under French authority is only 160 kilometers; so many people visit both islands traveling from one to the other either by ship or plane. Though the small Rodriguez Island of 108 square kilometers is three times as far away, it belongs to Mauritius, constituting its its 10th district.
As Mauritius is located near the tropic of Capricorn, it enjoys all the advantages of a sub-tropical climate. Here the summer last from December to June. The temperature at this time is around 30 degrees Celsius but the risk of heavier rain is larger. Between July and September, the temperature is an average of 24 degrees Celsius and the rainfall only amounts to a quarter of the quantity of the summer rains. And the second has a winter, the temperature rises.
On the 600 meters high central Plateau, the weather is always a bit colder than on the coast. The monsoon doesn't touch the island; cycle season is January and February. However, we only have to count on them approximately every 15 years.
