Centre moves NGT against five municipal bodies on pollution norms

In the first such action against civic bodies for non-compliance on anti-pollution measures, the environment ministry has moved the National Green Tribunal ( NGT ) against five municipal bodies of Uttar Pradesh — Mirzapur, Chunar, Bhadoi, Fatehpur and Hastinapur — seeking directions to the erring officials who have not taken measures on sewage treatment issues ... With decreasing water table owing to negligible rainfall in the last monsoon season and to tackle the ongoing dry spell, the forest department is planning to increase water holes for animals from 10 to 18 in the 2,000 sq km Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary ...
