Derweze (Persian: The Gate, also known as Darvaza) is a village in Turkmenistan of about 350 inhabitants, located in the middle of the Karakum Desert, about 260 km north from Ashgabat.
Darvaza inhabitants are mostly Turkmen of the Teke tribe, preserving a semi-nomadic lifestyle. In 2004 the village was disbanded following the order of the President of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov, because "it was an unpleasant sight for tourists."
The Derweze area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971, Soviet geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of 70 metres (230 ft) at 40°15′10″N 58°26′22″E / 40.25264°N 58.43941°E / 40.25264; 58.43941 (The Gates of Hell). To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided the best solution was to burn it off. Geologists had hoped the fire would use all the fuel in a matter of days, but the gas is still burning today. Locals have dubbed the cavern "The Door to Hell".
The Door to Hell (also known as the Gates to Hell, the Crater of Fire, Darvaza Crater) is a natural gas field in Derweze, Turkmenistan, that collapsed into an underground cavern in 1971, becoming a natural gas crater. Geologists set it on fire to prevent the spread of methane gas, and it has been burning continuously since then. The diameter of the crater is 69 m, and its depth is 30 m.
The crater is a popular tourist attraction. In the past five years 50,000 tourists have visited the site. The gas crater has a total area of 7003535000000000000♠5,350 m2, the size of an American football field. The surrounding area is also popular for wild desert camping.
The gas crater is located near the Derweze village. It is in the middle of the Karakum Desert, about 260 kilometres (160 mi) north of Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. The gas reserve found here is one of the largest in the world. The name "Door to Hell" was given to the field by the locals, referring to the fire, boiling mud, and orange flames in the large crater, which has a diameter of 70 metres (230 ft). The hot spots range over an area with a width of 60 metres (200 ft) and to a depth of about 20 metres (66 ft).
The Door may refer to:
In many mythological, folklore and religious traditions, hell is a place of torment and punishment in an afterlife. It is viewed by most Abrahamic traditions as punishment.Religions with a linear divine history often depict hells as eternal destinations. Religions with a cyclic history often depict a hell as an intermediary period between incarnations. Typically these traditions locate hell in another dimension or under the Earth's surface and often include entrances to Hell from the land of the living. Other afterlife destinations include Heaven, Purgatory, Paradise, and Limbo.
Other traditions, which do not conceive of the afterlife as a place of punishment or reward, merely describe hell as an abode of the dead, the grave, a neutral place located under the surface of Earth (for example, see sheol and Hades). Hell is sometimes portrayed as populated with demons who torment those dwelling there. Many are ruled by a death god such as Nergal, Hades, Hel, Enma or the Devil.
A door is a moving structure used to block off, and allow access to, an entrance to or within an enclosed space, such as a building or vehicle. Similar exterior structures are called gates. Typically, doors have an interior side that faces the inside of a space and an exterior side that faces the outside of that space. While in some cases the interior side of a door may match its exterior side, in other cases there are sharp contrasts between the two sides, such as in the case of the vehicle door. Doors normally consist of a panel that swings on hinges or that slides or spins inside of a space.
When open, doors admit people, animals, ventilation or light. The door is used to control the physical atmosphere within a space by enclosing the air drafts, so that interiors may be more effectively heated or cooled. Doors are significant in preventing the spread of fire. They also act as a barrier to noise. Many doors are equipped with locking mechanisms to allow entrance to certain people and keep out others. As a form of courtesy and civility, people often knock before opening a door and entering a room.

After the Derweze gas pit we drove towards the Uzbekistan border, unfortunately it was closed and we then had to find somewhere to stay another night in Turkmenistan. We met a really kind man who sat with us and shared stories and food until it became da...

An awesome trip down the Silk Road to Turkmenistan.
The Blowholes on the Samoan island of Savaii, the access to which lies through the village named Taga offer the visitors incredible natural sight. Taga Blowholes (known in the international media as Alofaaga Blowholes), which look like long underwater tubes with opening in rocks in the shore, are created by powerful waves. Over the years high pressure waves washed up the tiny cracks in the volcanic rock into a network of tunnels or blowholes. With every forceful wave the water shoots up the tubes, creating the water jets, which many be seen from the shore. The brave locals sometimes throw coconuts or rocks into the blowholes to see how forceful jets destroy them. Alofaaga Blowholes belong to our list of unusual places to see. War in the living room,
We swore we weren't like that.
Once we went down that road,
There was no turning back.
Anger and jealousy
And distorted fact,
Left this pale shadow
of a life we once had.
How could you love and then
Change just like that?
You give your whole heart away
Then take it all back.
This is the end of the line tonight
We can't defend what we know ain't right.
It's over, it's over, it's over,
This love we should let die.
This is the end of the line.
Broken down promises
Linger on in my head.
The scars and the blemishes
that time could not mend.
How can you live losing
All we once had?
Come on now, little girl,
It ain't quite that bad.
This is the end the line Tonight
We can't defend what
we know ain't right
It's over, it's over, it's over
This love we should let die.
This is the end of the line.
Nothing but love gets you
so hypnotized.
Nothing but love brings
them tears to your eyes.
Nothing but love takes
away all your pride.
Nothing but love eats
You away inside.
This is the end of the line Tonight.
We can't defend what we know ain't right.
Two worlds amend, oh ya and
Two worlds collide.
It's over, it's over, it's Over
This love we should let die.
It's been coming for some time.
So goodnight and goodbye.
This is the end
This is the end
