The Book of Job is one of the most misunderstood books in the Bible. I attempt to clear that up by offering a different perspective than most people know today. The traditional surface understanding doesn't make sense with scripture or the actual text. This new approach will clear up several misconceptions.
In regards to Job 2:3. It is interesting you brought this up, because this was something I had planned to talk about but left it because I thought I was getting to technical. Commentators like John MacArthur note the Hebrew is the same expression for what Satan uses in Job 1:9, "for nothing." Basically God has turned Satan's own words against him. God is pointing out Satan was wrong that Job only worshipped his stuff. Which is something I pointed out at the end that Satan, Job, and Job's friends were all wrong in this. God is pointing out here Job is not suffering because Satan was right about him in this, but there is deeper thing taking place. Job didn't have his stuff taken away for the cause Satan had thought.

In my own unique style I teach the Book Of Job chapter by chapter, verse by verse and explain everything I have learned about it. But the basic lesson is that tough times don't last, tough people do. Job was stripped of everything he had, and wonders why spiritual forcer greater than himself have been allowed to do so.
Why would God purposefully destroy the protective barrier of one of His greatest servents? Listen in, and find out why!

Why do bad things happen to good people? Well, we're actually made privy of God's "mysterious" reason in this particular case, and we find out that it isn't so mysterious after all. Historically, Job has been revered as a great work of literature. Nobody really knows who wrote it, but the powers that be figured it had to be God-breathed. This book disgusts me mainly because it values material possessions over sons and daughters. Job's children were killed, and he's supposed to be fine with that because God returned twice the amount of his possessions. Sorry, not good enough. Yeah, Job had ten more kids, but as any parent who has lost a child can tell you: ONE CHILD DOES NOT REPLACE ANOTHER. This book touts an immoral message, and it's paraded by many as deep and insightful. Many religious folk are told what this book is about, but don't actually read it for themselves, or they squirm with inaccurate interpretations that are directly contrary to the actual literature. They're almost forced to, because they've devoted themselves to the bible, and this immoral message is in the bible. But the message is quite easy to understand. Fuck this book.

The author of the book of Job is unknown. Several suggestions have been put forth as plausible authors: Job himself, who could have best recalled his own words; Elihu, the fourth friend who spoke toward the end of the story; various biblical writers and leaders; or many editors who compiled the material over the years. While there is no definitive answer, it was most likely an eyewitness who recorded the detailed and lengthy conversations found in the book. In Old Testament times, authors sometimes referred to themselves in the third person, so Job’s authorship is a strong possibility.
Who was Job? This wealthy landowner and father is one of the best-known biblical heroes. But we know little more than that he was stripped of everything, without warning, and that his faith was severely tested.

The book of Job is Narrative History. Its author is unknown yet it is possible that Job himself wrote it. It is possible that Job is the oldest of any book of the Bible written approximately 2100-1800 B.C. Key personalities of this book include Job, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, Zophar the Naamathite, and Elihu the Buzite.
In Job, we see a man who God allows to be directly attacked by Satan. He is an example of faithfulness as he loses everything important to him yet remains faithful to God. Its purpose is to illustrate God’s sovereignty and faithfulness during a time of great suffering.
• In chapters 1-3, God tests Job’s faithfulness through allowing Satan to attack him. God told Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him” (1:12). Through Job’s trials, all is lost including his health, his wife even tells him to curse God and commit suicide, but he remains strong and faithful, “Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.” (1:22).
• From chapters 4-37, Job’s friends give him plenty of bad advice, in rounds of discussion. They mistakenly blame his sufferings on his personal sins rather than God testing and growing Job. One of them was half-correct in that God wanted to humble him, but this was only a part of God’s test.
• In chapters 38-42, God speaks to Job and restores him. God knows that Job has received incorrect guidance from his friends, “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” God fittingly declares that humans do not know everything. Then He humbles Job by asking a series of questions that could never be answered by anyone other than Almighty God; for example, “Have you understood the expanse of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this”. God then brings him to an understanding that believers don’t always know what God is doing in their lives.
In the end, Job answers God by saying, “I have declared that which I did not understand”. God then blessed Job with twice as much as he had before his trials began.

The Book of Job (
/ˈdʒoʊb/; Hebrew: אִיוֹב ʾ iyobh), commonly referred to simply as Job, is one of the books of the Hebrew Bible. It relates the story of Job, his trials at the hands of Satan, his discussions with friends on the origins and nature of his suffering, his challenge to God, and finally a response from God. The book is a didactic poem set in a prose frame. The over-riding and oft-asked question asked in the book of Job is, "Why do the righteous suffer?".
The book of Job has been included in lists of the greatest books in world literature.
The book of Job tells the story of an extremely righteous man named Job, who was very prosperous and had seven sons and three daughters. Constantly fearing that his sons may have sinned and "cursed God in their hearts", he habitually offered burnt offerings as a pardon for their sins. The "sons of God" and Satan (literally "the Adversary") present themselves to God, and God asks Satan his opinion on Job. Satan answers that Job is pious only because God has put a "wall around" him and "blessed" His favourite servant with prosperity, but if God were to stretch out his hand and strike everything that Job had, then he would surely curse God. God gives Satan permission to test Job's righteousness.

Its purpose is to illustrate God’s sovereignty and faithfulness during a time of great suffering. • In chapters 1-3, God tests Job’s faithfulness through allowing Satan to attack him. God told Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him” (1:12). Through Job’s trials, all is lost including his health, his wife even tells him to curse God and commit suicide, but he remains strong and faithful, “Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.” (1:22). • From chapters 4-37, Job’s friends give him plenty of bad advice, in rounds of discussion. They mistakenly blame his sufferings on his personal sins rather than God testing and growing Job. One of them was half-correct in that God wanted to humble him, but this was only a part of God’s test. • In chapters 38-42, God speaks to Job and restores him. God knows that Job has received incorrect guidance from his friends, “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” God fittingly declares that humans do not know everything. Then He humbles Job by asking a series of questions that could never be answered by anyone other than Almighty God; for example, “Have you understood the expanse of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this”. God then brings him to an understanding that believers don’t always know what God is doing in their lives. In the end, Job answers God by saying, “I have declared that which I did not understand”. God then blessed Job with twice as much as he had before his trials began. -

The Book of Job is one of the most misunderstood books in the Bible. I attempt to clear that up by offering a different perspective than most people know today. The traditional surface understanding doesn't make sense with scripture or the actual text. This new approach will clear up several misconceptions.
In regards to Job 2:3. It is interesting you brought this up, because this was something I had planned to talk about but left it because I thought I was getting to technical. Commentators like John MacArthur note the Hebrew is the same expression for what Satan uses in Job 1:9, "for nothing." Basically God has turned Satan's own words against him. God is pointing out Satan was wrong that Job only worshipped his stuff. Which is something I pointed out at the end that Satan, Job, and Job's friends were all wrong in this. God is pointing out here Job is not suffering because Satan was right about him in this, but there is deeper thing taking place. Job didn't have his stuff taken away for the cause Satan had thought.

Why do bad things happen to good people? Well, we're actually made privy of God's "mysterious" reason in this particular case, and we find out that it isn't so mysterious after all. Historically, Job has been revered as a great work of literature. Nobody really knows who wrote it, but the powers that be figured it had to be God-breathed. This book disgusts me mainly because it values material possessions over sons and daughters. Job's children were killed, and he's supposed to be fine with that because God returned twice the amount of his possessions. Sorry, not good enough. Yeah, Job had ten more kids, but as any parent who has lost a child can tell you: ONE CHILD DOES NOT REPLACE ANOTHER. This book touts an immoral message, and it's paraded by many as deep and insightful. Many religious folk are told what this book is about, but don't actually read it for themselves, or they squirm with inaccurate interpretations that are directly contrary to the actual literature. They're almost forced to, because they've devoted themselves to the bible, and this immoral message is in the bible. But the message is quite easy to understand. Fuck this book.

The book of Job is Narrative History. Its author is unknown yet it is possible that Job himself wrote it. It is possible that Job is the oldest of any book of the Bible written approximately 2100-1800 B.C. Key personalities of this book include Job, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, Zophar the Naamathite, and Elihu the Buzite.
In Job, we see a man who God allows to be directly attacked by Satan. He is an example of faithfulness as he loses everything important to him yet remains faithful to God. Its purpose is to illustrate God’s sovereignty and faithfulness during a time of great suffering.
• In chapters 1-3, God tests Job’s faithfulness through allowing Satan to attack him. God told Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him” (1:12). Through Job’s trials, all is lost including his health, his wife even tells him to curse God and commit suicide, but he remains strong and faithful, “Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.” (1:22).
• From chapters 4-37, Job’s friends give him plenty of bad advice, in rounds of discussion. They mistakenly blame his sufferings on his personal sins rather than God testing and growing Job. One of them was half-correct in that God wanted to humble him, but this was only a part of God’s test.
• In chapters 38-42, God speaks to Job and restores him. God knows that Job has received incorrect guidance from his friends, “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” God fittingly declares that humans do not know everything. Then He humbles Job by asking a series of questions that could never be answered by anyone other than Almighty God; for example, “Have you understood the expanse of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this”. God then brings him to an understanding that believers don’t always know what God is doing in their lives.
In the end, Job answers God by saying, “I have declared that which I did not understand”. God then blessed Job with twice as much as he had before his trials began.

The book of Job is Narrative History. Its author is unknown yet it is possible that Job himself wrote it. It is possible that Job is the oldest of any book of the Bible written approximately 2100-1800 B.C. Key personalities of this book include Job, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, Zophar the Naamathite, and Elihu the Buzite.
In Job, we see a man who God allows to be directly attacked by Satan. He is an example of faithfulness as he loses everything important to him yet remains faithful to God. Its purpose is to illustrate God’s sovereignty and faithfulness during a time of great suffering.
• In chapters 1-3, God tests Job’s faithfulness through allowing Satan to attack him. God told Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him” (1:12). Through Job’s trials, all is lost including his health, his wife even tells him to curse God and commit suicide, but he remains strong and faithful, “Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.” (1:22).
• From chapters 4-37, Job’s friends give him plenty of bad advice, in rounds of discussion. They mistakenly blame his sufferings on his personal sins rather than God testing and growing Job. One of them was half-correct in that God wanted to humble him, but this was only a part of God’s test.
• In chapters 38-42, God speaks to Job and restores him. God knows that Job has received incorrect guidance from his friends, “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” God fittingly declares that humans do not know everything. Then He humbles Job by asking a series of questions that could never be answered by anyone other than Almighty God; for example, “Have you understood the expanse of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this”. God then brings him to an understanding that believers don’t always know what God is doing in their lives.
In the end, Job answers God by saying, “I have declared that which I did not understand”. God then blessed Job with twice as much as he had before his trials began.

Now turn onward to an even more amazing passage. We get to look at the events of the Book of Job: explained by this frame, or viewfinder of The Throne.
As we look at Job's woes and troubles, understand that the events of our lives are carried out in front of the very same scene of God's power and worship before the Throne.
From Job 1-2, the lesson we will see is that we need to:
Trust the One Seated on the Throne
A quick synopsis of the 42 chapters of Job would be that: "Each of us are part of something so much bigger than any of us could imagine". As believers we are allowed to see what can only be described as: astounding.
The Throne set in Heaven has been there, overshadowing all of human events since creation.
But, God is not just sitting there and watching us, like a game on TV.
God is always depicted as actively involved in the affairs of mankind: ruling and reigning, never out of touch, never out of control.
The Lord now shows us the scene around His Throne, during the life of Job (who lived most likely during the few hundred of years between Noah and Abraham).
This account was broadcast by God for us to see the big picture of the God we can trust. The One who is on that Throne: knows us and protects us; but also allows disastrous trials to help us get closer to Him.
The whole Book of Job is summed up from Job's perspective in Job 42:5-6. Follow along as I read what Job learned from all those troubles:
"I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You. 6 Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes."
Job says I have heard all about you God. But now, after all these calamities, struggles, and losses: NOW I can really SEE You! That was the goal God had. He wanted Job to see that The One on the Throne was the God to TRUST.
As we walk through the events of Job 1-2 (NKJV), note that there is the:
Big Picture: The One Seated On The Throne Stays in Touch with Our Lives
Truth For us #1: God was tracking with everything going on in Job's life.
Big Picture: The One Seated On The Throne Regulates the Adversary Satan Job 1:6-8
Truth For us #2: God prompted the Devil's attack against Job. Job 1:9-12
Truth For us #3: Satan wants to make God's servants dishonor their King on The Throne. (Remember David's sin caused "the enemies" of the Lord to rejoice? That is what grieves our God, when we willfully sin against His grace offered to us in time of need. Job doesn't do that.)
Big Picture: The One Seated On The Throne Allowed Job to Lose His Property and ChildrenJob 1:13-19
Truth For us #4: Satan can incite terrorists to rob and kill.
Truth For us #5: Satan can send down fire from the sky.
Truth For us #6: Satan can send tornadoes, and deadly weather.
Big Picture: The One Seated On The Throne Listens to the Cries of our Hearts
Truth For us #7: God was magnified by the cries of Job's heart.
Big Picture: The One Seated On The Throne Allowed Job to Suffer Intensely Bad Times
Truth For us #8: Bad things can happen to good people in order for them to glorify God.
Every day we live before the eyes of The One Seated on The Throne.
Each event that takes place is not missed by the One Seated there.
That is the frame that God asks us to use: to look at all of life.
