Plot: Unauthorized Absence is a film about a teacher who's dream is to become a famous writer. He is also seeking the approval of his dying father. He goes to Iraq to write about the war and because he is really a coward, he lies about what he witnessed to make his article appear more interesting to the public. However, after the death of his father, he soon realizes that fame and fortune are not that important and tells the truth about his false statements about what he observed in Iraq and turns down a very lucrative writing opportunity. He finds freedom in just being himself.
