Paul Brett (born 20 June 1947, Fulham, London) is an English classic rock guitarist. He played lead guitar with Strawbs (though he was never actually a member), The Overlanders,The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera, The Velvet Opera, Tintern Abbey, Fire, Roy Harper, Al Stewart, Lonnie Donegan, and switched to twelve-string guitar in the 1970s.
His first twelve-string guitar suite, Earth Birth, was released on his own label, Phoenix Future, and was produced by artist Ralph Steadman of Fear and Loathing fame. Critical acclaim led to Brett being signed on a four-album deal with RCA Records. His K-tel Romantic Guitar album went platinum in the UK, but Brett stopped recording soon afterwards. He started recording again in 2000, with long-time friend and fellow twelve-string guitarist, John Joyce.
Brett wrote for music magazines Melody Maker, Sound International and International Musician and continued working in the music industry in the later part of his career. He now writes a regular column for Acoustic, a magazine specializing in acoustic guitars. He is also the Associate Editor and Features Writer for Music Maker and Live in London magazines.
The twelve-string guitar is a steel-string guitar with twelve strings in six courses, which produces a richer, more ringing tone than a standard six-string guitar. Typically, the strings of the lower four courses are tuned in octaves, with those of the upper two courses tuned in unisons. The strings are generally arranged such that the first string of each pair to be struck on a downward strum is the higher octave string; however, Rickenbacker usually reverses this arrangement on its electric 360/12 model. The gap between the strings within each dual-string course is narrow, and the strings of each course are fretted and plucked as a single unit. The neck is wider, to accommodate the extra strings, and is similar to the width of a classical guitar neck. The sound, particularly on acoustical instruments, is fuller and more harmonically resonant than six-string instruments.
Structurally, twelve-string guitars differ from six-string guitars in the following ways:

Brett derives from a Middle English surname meaning "a Breton", referring to an inhabitant of Brittany. Brette can be a feminine name.
The Sun (in Greek: Helios, in Latin: Sol) is the star at the center of the Solar System and is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. It is a nearly perfect spherical ball of hot plasma, with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. Its diameter is about 109 times that of Earth, and it has a mass about 330,000 times that of Earth, accounting for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System.About three quarters of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen; the rest is mostly helium, with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon and iron.
The Sun is a G-type main-sequence star (G2V) based on spectral class and it is informally referred to as a yellow dwarf. It formed approximately 4.567 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of matter within a region of a large molecular cloud. Most of this matter gathered in the center, whereas the rest flattened into an orbiting disk that became the Solar System. The central mass became increasingly hot and dense, eventually initiating nuclear fusion in its core. It is thought that almost all stars form by this process.

Plot: Set in mid-1950's England, this story tells of the wealthy, socially upwardly-progressive Ratcliffe family. Their youngest daughter, seventeen year old Vanessa, feels alienated from her selfish parents, who are more interested in their eldest daughter's upcoming marriage into one of their town's old families. An old friend of the family, who is himself trapped in a loveless marriage, makes love to Vanessa one night, and she becomes pregnant, but won't reveal who the father is. Her parents are sure it is an employee of the Ratcliffe's, Angus Cotton, who hotly denies this and quits his job to go and start his own business. Vanessa ends up leaving home, and when Angus hears of the poor conditions she's living in in a Newcastle skid-row neighbourhood, he offers to marry her and she accepts.

Brett began collaborating with the Vintage brand a year or three back, inspired by smaller-body, 12-fret instruments. This new model continues that theme, but shrinks it to travel-guitar dimensions. The timing is good, not least because travel guitars have gained serious credibility of late: ask Ed Sheeran, with his pint-sized Martin. How small is it? Well, stood next to a standard dreadnought, the tip of the peghead just about reaches the dread's first fret. It's definitely no toy, though. The tinted solid Sitka spruce top is ...

This lovely diminutive 12er was delivered this morning, and is every bit as nice, if not nicer than, the prototypes I tried last year at AcousticLife Forum Members Hebden Bridge Meet. Thanks must go to Paul for letting us try them at that stage, and for keeping us up to speed with UK releases of these guitars. The tune is one of my own, but fairly "generic" I think!
This is a poem of mine I put to music in the Blues style using images and a guitar that is unique in design and costing only a mere £79. A true modern working man's guitar. If anyone's interested in a similar guitar go to www.skylarkguitars.com

As a fitting tribute to the pioneering blues era of the 1930's, Vintage and Paul Brett have set out to design a 12-string that oozes pure nostalgia from every note. I love this new creation by master US luthier Joe Veillette. It's unique in concept and tonality. Sounds something between a mandolin and the mid range of a 12 string, but with a beautiful rich mellowness that enhances it's beauty. From slow languid passages where it sounds almost etherial to quick licks that definately have a Celtic feel. I have only just aquired this guitar and will be working on it's possibilities as far as my genre of music is concerned over the coming months. Joe really has come up with a worthy addition to any guitarists armoury. This recording is just acoustic with stereo microphones but the Gryphon ( as Joe has called it) has superb on board electronics, which will definately be a plus in live situations plus give the player far more sound options. It is beautifull...
Vintage Guitar expert Paul Brett shows two examples of Vintage Guitars. One has real bad repairs and is not worth buying as professional restoration would cost far more than the guitar is worth, even though the sound of the guitar is not too bad. The other, whilst having some bad neck repairs is worth buying because the sum of it's parts are valuable as spares in today's vintage market.
One - off parlour guitar, hand crafted by Eggle Guitars. Made from a rescued former bank counter of Cuban Mahogany. Great little guitar and made to Patrick Eggle's high standards.. More info: .www,eggle.co.uk

Brett talks to Paul Cooke after the Poppies first home league win of the season - 3-1 against Weymouth.
lol wanker--from 'Highlights & Hangups' documentary, available elsewhere on youtube "I was just quite a strange young man, living in a very unusual sort of self-created little world. But yeah, there was an element of winding people up, I suppose. I like to antagonize people. I saw it as my duty as a performer to wind people up. I think that's quite a commendable attitude. If I have one blanket of criticism of modern music it's that there's not enough hate figures." -- Brett Anderson, 2009
Poppies TV regular, Brett Solkhon, talks to Paul Cooke about the 1-0 win over Dorchester Town
This old world is pretty crazy
People hurting everywhere
Cities dying, leaders lying
Demons dancing in the air
Once I thought I knew the answer
To the sorrow on this earth
One day judge and one day jury
But the more I see the beauty
Turn to hatred and to fear
There's just one thing that I'm sure of
You're the one I love
You're the one I love
Sure as stars above
You're the one I love
Turn my paper, flick my TV,
See my saviours all around
Some say this way, then it's that way
'Till I'm crazy with their sound
Then I look at our two children
See the magic in their eyes
And I wonder what's before them
They say that each new generation
Holds the secret to their time
Will they heed this age old story?
You're the one I love,
You're the one I love
Sure as stars above
You're the one I love
Mogadishu, Sarajevo,
Kampuchea, Palestine,
Belfast city, L.A. war zone,
Children screaming, men in line
Could I really turn to kill you
'Cos your eyes are not quite blue
Watch your daughter beg for mercy?
Could I fool myself forever
That a habit is a truth,
Does it matter if I tell you
That you're the one I love?
You're the one I love
Sure as stars above
You're the one I love
Take me on home, I want to go home
