On Day 3 of our trip to Jordan we stayed in Amman, and did lots of the major attractions in Amman, including the historical sites. We also explored downtown Amman, went to the local market, and at some more incredibly good food. Below is everything we did during this packed day of sightseeing in Amman.
1:10 - Shams El Balad Cafe - For breakfast we went to Shams El Balad Cafe, a very nice restaurant and cafe that specializes in local Jordanian food with a fresh and healthy, and also organic twist to it. The place itself is very nice, and sits on a hill overlooking the main downtown area of Amman. We ordered a variety of different food, including some manakish, which is a round of dough baked with toppings including cheese and herbs on top. I also really enjoyed the makdous, preserved eggplant stuffed with nuts, and a certain type of labneh with local herbs. Total price - 28 JD ($39.40) for 4 people
5:35 Amman Citadel - 3 JD ($4.22) - One of the most famous things to do in Amman is visit to Amman Citadel, which is the high point on the hill and formerly was one of the main areas of the city - the lookout and high place of Amman. Located at the Amman Citadel you’ll find layer upon layer of history, and can see all the different civilizations that have once called Amman home. I thought it was amazing, and I especially enjoyed the views of Amman from up there and the temple of Hercules.
7:38 Roman Amphitheater - 2 JD ($2.81) - Right down the hill from the Amman Citadel is the Roman Amphitheater, a stone theater carved into the side of the mountain. When we entered, there was a group of boys singing, and I decided to climb to the top for a view and I was amazing how the sound carried all the way to the top of the bleachers. An amazing historical site of visit.
8:54 Green Almonds and Downtown Amman - One of the best things to do in Amman in my opinion is to walk around downtown where all the action happens. There’s a big central market where you can buy just about anything you’re looking for, including a fresh wet market. When I visited Amman it happened to be almond season, and it was my first time to try green almonds. They were absolutely delicious, and tasted a bit like green apples.
13:01 Habibah Sweets - Probably one of the most famous things to eat in Amman is the kanefeh from a desserts spot in downtown called Habibah Sweets. There’s always a crowd of people standing outside waiting and eating kanafeh, which is a cheese based dessert. It’s pretty good, definitely a place you’ll need to visit in Amman if you enjoy food - especially for sweets. Price for 1 piece of kanafeh - 0.65 JD ($0.91)
14:22 Sufra Restaurant - For lunch we went to Sufra Restaurant, a very nice Jordanian food restaurant, located on Rainbow street. The food was excellent, but the main dish that really stood out to me was the Kofta bi tahini, a bed of minced meat, topped with potatoes and smothered in tahini sauce. Price - about 20 JD ($28.11) per person
19:50 Shawarma Reem and Amman Shawarma Street - Finally for dinner, we headed to what’s unofficially known as the shawarma street in Amman, where there’s about 8 different shawarma restaurants. One of the most famous is Shawarma Reem, for their beef and lamb shawarma - it was a perfect way to end the day.

Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a fascinating city of contrasts -- a unique blend of old and new, ideally situated on a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley. Hashem Restaurant is probably one of the most famous and one of the oldest restaurants in downtown Amman. And not only are they located in a great location, but they serve very good food. For more information check out my Amman Travel Guide: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/amman-jordan/
On Day 11, Ying and I were on our own. Although I had some video editing and blogging that I needed to do, we did a little bit of exploring, and I really wanted to eat at the legendary Hashem Restaurant. From our hotel, we took a short walk down the hill, enjoying some great views of Amman, until we reached the bottom of the valley where downtown is located. We arrived around 11 am in the morning, and from the steps we took down the hill, we arrived just a turn away from the entrance of Hashem Restaurant - very convenient.
The restaurant was packed and bustling. I would like to quickly mention that meals are eaten pretty late in Jordan, many people don’t eat breakfast until 9, 10, or even 11 am, so I think most of the people eating when we arrived were mostly having breakfast. Lunch is typically eaten more around the 2 pm - 4 pm time range. It took a few minutes, but we found a table that someone left, and after getting it cleared, we sat down and ordered. I don’t think they really have a menu at Hashem Restaurant, but they have all the basic dishes like hummus, ful, moutabel, and falafel - the hummus and falafel, including the stuffed falafel are some of the most famous dishes they serve. Hashem Restaurant has been visited by many famous people from around the world, and it seems that many Royalty, politicians and celebrities, when they visit Amman, make it a point to eat here. So I was pretty excited to eat here too.
I ordered a range of different dishes to try, including hummus, moutabel, ful medames, and finally both normal falafel and stuffed falafel. The stuffed falafel were about twice the size, and stuffed with onions and sumac, they were delicious. The hummus, topped with a generous amount of olive oil, was also extremely good, with a very refreshing lemon taste, and I really liked how they added on some green chili sauce to the top. With a little red chili sauce and using bread to dip it up, the hummus was excellent. The ful was also wonderful, with lots of olive oil and green chili sauce on top to make it even better. And finally the moutabel, one of my personal favorites, didn’t let me down either. It was smoky and creamy, with nearly the consistency of whipped cream.
After a delicious meal at one of the most famous restaurant in Amman, we headed back up the hill and started walking back to our hotel. We stopped at a fruit store and bought a bag of different fruit to eat through the afternoon, including some more wonderful green almonds.

I was invited to take a 12 day trip to Jordan by the Jordan Tourism Board, to mainly focus on eating delicious Jordanian food, but also to see some of the main attractions within the Kingdom. I want to say a big thank you to the Jordan Tourism Board for making this trip happen!
I’m based in Bangkok, Thailand, and so on Day 1 of our trip, my wife and I caught a direct flight from Bangkok to Amman, Jordan with Royal Jordanian airlines. The flight was alright, and it took about 10 hours on our direct flight. We arrived to Queen Alia International Airport, early in the morning at about 5 am, where we were greeted by a representative from Visit Jordan, and proceed to go through customs and immigration and grabbed out bag. We then met with our driver and guide, who brought us directly to La Locanda Boutique Hotel, where we would be staying for the next few days.
As soon as I arrived to Amman, I was hungry - after all, it was already noon lunchtime in Bangkok. Luckily it was about 7 am when we checked into our hotel, and so we dropped off our bags and immediately went to have breakfast as the hotel. I’m a huge fan of Jordanian breakfast, and I had a bunch of raw vegetables, some bread, and lots of hummus and finally some ful medames for breakfast. It was a fantastic change from what I normally eat for breakfast.
After finishing breakfast, we headed back to our room to sleep for a couple hours, before heading out to do some eating and exploring in Amman. You’ll find out what we did on Day 2 in Amman, on the next video!

The Amman Message (Arabic: رسالة عمان) is a statement which was issued on 9 November 2004 (27th of Ramadan 1425 AH) by King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, calling for tolerance and unity in the Muslim world. Subsequently, a three-point ruling was issued by 200 Islamic scholars from over 50 countries, focusing on issues of: defining who a Muslim is; excommunication from Islam (takfir), and; principles related to delivering religious edicts (fatāwa).
The Amman Message was delivered in Amman as a Ramadan sermon by Chief Justice Sheikh Iz-al-Din al-Tamimi in the presence of King Abdullah II and a number of Muslim scholars. According to a report issued by the International Crisis Group, "The sermon stressed the need to re-emphasise Islam's core values of compassion, mutual respect, tolerance, acceptance and freedom of religion." The next year, in July 2005, an Islamic convention brought together 200 Muslim scholars from over 50 countries who issued a three-point declaration (later known as 'Three Points of the Amman Message'). Amman (Arabic: عمان 
/ɑːˈmɑːn/; ʿAmmān; Rabat Ammon) is the capital and largest city of Jordan. It is the country's political, cultural and commercial centre and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The Greater Amman area has a population of 2,842,629 as of 2010. Furthermore, it is expected that in the next 10 years these three cities will capture the largest share of multinational corporation activity in the region. Hashem Restaurant has been visited by many famous people from around the world, and it seems that many Royalty, politicians and celebrities, when they visit Amman, make it a point to eat here. So I was pretty excited to eat here too. I ordered a range of different dishes to try, including hummus, moutabel, ful medames, and finally both normal falafel and stuffed falafel. The stuffed falafel were about twice the size, and stuffed with onions and sumac, they were delicious. The hummus, topped with a generous amount of olive oil, was also extremely good, with a very refreshing lemon taste, and I really liked how they added on some green chili sauce to the top. With a little red chili sauce and using bread to dip it up, the hummus was excellent. The ful was also wonderful, with lots of olive oil and green chili sauce on top to make it even better. And finally the moutabel, one of my personal favorites, didn’t let me down either. It was smoky and creamy, with nearly the consistency of whipped cream. After a delicious meal at one of the most famous restaurant in Amman, we headed back up the hill and started walking back to our hotel. We stopped at a fruit store and bought a bag of different fruit to eat through the afternoon, including some more wonderful green almonds. Read my Amman Travel Guide here: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/amman-jordan/ I was invited to take a 12 day trip to Jordan by the Jordan Tourism Board, to mainly focus on eating delicious Jordanian food, but also to see some of the main attractions within the Kingdom. I want to say a big thank you to the Jordan Tourism Board for making this trip happen! I’m based in Bangkok, Thailand, and so on Day 1 of our trip, my wife and I caught a direct flight from Bangkok to Amman, Jordan with Royal Jordanian airlines. The flight was alright, and it took about 10 hours on our direct flight. We arrived to Queen Alia International Airport, early in the morning at about 5 am, where we were greeted by a representative from Visit Jordan, and proceed to go through customs and immigration and grabbed out bag. We then met with our driver and guide, who brought us directly to La Locanda Boutique Hotel, where we would be staying for the next few days. As soon as I arrived to Amman, I was hungry - after all, it was already noon lunchtime in Bangkok. Luckily it was about 7 am when we checked into our hotel, and so we dropped off our bags and immediately went to have breakfast as the hotel. I’m a huge fan of Jordanian breakfast, and I had a bunch of raw vegetables, some bread, and lots of hummus and finally some ful medames for breakfast. It was a fantastic change from what I normally eat for breakfast. After finishing breakfast, we headed back to our room to sleep for a couple hours, before heading out to do some eating and exploring in Amman. On Day 3 of our trip to Jordan we stayed in Amman, and did lots of the major attractions in Amman, including the historical sites. We also explored downtown Amman, went to the local market, and at some more incredibly good food. Below is everything we did during this packed day of sightseeing in Amman.
1:10 - Shams El Balad Cafe - For breakfast we went to Shams El Balad Cafe, a very nice restaurant and cafe that specializes in local Jordanian food with a fresh and healthy, and also organic twist to it. The place itself is very nice, and sits on a hill overlooking the main downtown area of Amman. We ordered a variety of different food, including some manakish, which is a round of dough baked with toppings including cheese and herbs on top. I also really enjoyed the makdous, preserved eggplant stuffed with nuts, and a certain type of labneh with local herbs. Total price - 28 JD ($39.40) for 4 people
5:35 Amman Citadel - 3 JD ($4.22) - One of the most famous things to do in Amman is visit to Amman Citadel, which is the high point on the hill and formerly was one of the main areas of the city - the lookout and high place of Amman. Located at the Amman Citadel you’ll find layer upon layer of history, and can see all the different civilizations that have once called Amman home. I thought it was amazing, and I especially enjoyed the views of Amman from up there and the temple of Hercules.
7:38 Roman Amphitheater - 2 JD ($2.81) - Right down the hill from the Amman Citadel is the Roman Amphitheater, a stone theater carved into the side of the mountain. When we entered, there was a group of boys singing, and I decided to climb to the top for a view and I was amazing how the sound carried all the way to the top of the bleachers. An amazing historical site of visit.
8:54 Green Almonds and Downtown Amman - One of the best things to do in Amman in my opinion is to walk around downtown where all the action happens. There’s a big central market where you can buy just about anything you’re looking for, including a fresh wet market. When I visited Amman it happened to be almond season, and it was my first time to try green almonds. They were absolutely delicious, and tasted a bit like green apples.
13:01 Habibah Sweets - Probably one of the most famous things to eat in Amman is the kanefeh from a desserts spot in downtown called Habibah Sweets. There’s always a crowd of people standing outside waiting and eating kanafeh, which is a cheese based dessert. It’s pretty good, definitely a place you’ll need to visit in Amman if you enjoy food - especially for sweets. Price for 1 piece of kanafeh - 0.65 JD ($0.91)
14:22 Sufra Restaurant - For lunch we went to Sufra Restaurant, a very nice Jordanian food restaurant, located on Rainbow street. The food was excellent, but the main dish that really stood out to me was the Kofta bi tahini, a bed of minced meat, topped with potatoes and smothered in tahini sauce. Price - about 20 JD ($28.11) per person
19:50 Shawarma Reem and Amman Shawarma Street - Finally for dinner, we headed to what’s unofficially known as the shawarma street in Amman, where there’s about 8 different shawarma restaurants. One of the most famous is Shawarma Reem, for their beef and lamb shawarma - it was a perfect way to end the day.

On Day 11, Ying and I were on our own. Although I had some video editing and blogging that I needed to do, we did a little bit of exploring, and I really wanted to eat at the legendary Hashem Restaurant. From our hotel, we took a short walk down the hill, enjoying some great views of Amman, until we reached the bottom of the valley where downtown is located. We arrived around 11 am in the morning, and from the steps we took down the hill, we arrived just a turn away from the entrance of Hashem Restaurant - very convenient.
The restaurant was packed and bustling. I would like to quickly mention that meals are eaten pretty late in Jordan, many people don’t eat breakfast until 9, 10, or even 11 am, so I think most of the people eating when we arrived were mostly having breakfast. Lunch is typically eaten more around the 2 pm - 4 pm time range. It took a few minutes, but we found a table that someone left, and after getting it cleared, we sat down and ordered. I don’t think they really have a menu at Hashem Restaurant, but they have all the basic dishes like hummus, ful, moutabel, and falafel - the hummus and falafel, including the stuffed falafel are some of the most famous dishes they serve. Hashem Restaurant has been visited by many famous people from around the world, and it seems that many Royalty, politicians and celebrities, when they visit Amman, make it a point to eat here. So I was pretty excited to eat here too.
I ordered a range of different dishes to try, including hummus, moutabel, ful medames, and finally both normal falafel and stuffed falafel. The stuffed falafel were about twice the size, and stuffed with onions and sumac, they were delicious. The hummus, topped with a generous amount of olive oil, was also extremely good, with a very refreshing lemon taste, and I really liked how they added on some green chili sauce to the top. With a little red chili sauce and using bread to dip it up, the hummus was excellent. The ful was also wonderful, with lots of olive oil and green chili sauce on top to make it even better. And finally the moutabel, one of my personal favorites, didn’t let me down either. It was smoky and creamy, with nearly the consistency of whipped cream.
After a delicious meal at one of the most famous restaurant in Amman, we headed back up the hill and started walking back to our hotel. We stopped at a fruit store and bought a bag of different fruit to eat through the afternoon, including some more wonderful green almonds.

I was invited to take a 12 day trip to Jordan by the Jordan Tourism Board, to mainly focus on eating delicious Jordanian food, but also to see some of the main attractions within the Kingdom. I want to say a big thank you to the Jordan Tourism Board for making this trip happen!
I’m based in Bangkok, Thailand, and so on Day 1 of our trip, my wife and I caught a direct flight from Bangkok to Amman, Jordan with Royal Jordanian airlines. The flight was alright, and it took about 10 hours on our direct flight. We arrived to Queen Alia International Airport, early in the morning at about 5 am, where we were greeted by a representative from Visit Jordan, and proceed to go through customs and immigration and grabbed out bag. We then met with our driver and guide, who brought us directly to La Locanda Boutique Hotel, where we would be staying for the next few days.
As soon as I arrived to Amman, I was hungry - after all, it was already noon lunchtime in Bangkok. Luckily it was about 7 am when we checked into our hotel, and so we dropped off our bags and immediately went to have breakfast as the hotel. I’m a huge fan of Jordanian breakfast, and I had a bunch of raw vegetables, some bread, and lots of hummus and finally some ful medames for breakfast. It was a fantastic change from what I normally eat for breakfast.
After finishing breakfast, we headed back to our room to sleep for a couple hours, before heading out to do some eating and exploring in Amman. You’ll find out what we did on Day 2 in Amman, on the next video!

Google says it has pulled a Chrome extension used by racists to identify and track Jewish people online following a detailed investigation by Mic, Engadget reported. The plugin, which went by the innocuous name “Coincidence Detector,” added a series of triple parentheses around the surnames of Jewish writers and celebrities ...
