The Zambezi (also spelled Zambeze and Zambesi) is the fourth-longest river in Africa, the longest east flowing river in Africa and the largest flowing into the Indian Ocean from Africa. The area of its basin is 1,390,000 square kilometres (540,000 sq mi), slightly less than half that of the Nile. The 2,574-kilometre-long river (1,599 mi) rises in Zambia and flows through eastern Angola, along the eastern border of Namibia and the northern border of Botswana, then along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe to Mozambique, where it crosses the country to empty into the Indian Ocean.
The Zambezi's most noted feature is Victoria Falls. Other notable falls include the Chavuma Falls at the border between Zambia and Angola, and Ngonye Falls, near Sioma in Western Zambia.
There are two main sources of hydroelectric power on the river, the Kariba Dam, which provides power to Zambia and Zimbabwe, and the Cahora Bassa Dam in Mozambique, which provides power to Mozambique and South Africa. There is also a smaller power station at Victoria Falls.
Steve Fisher also known as "The Fish" (born September 21, 1982 in Olathe, Kansas) is an American professional snowboarder and the 2004 and 2007 Winter X Games Champion. He was once ranked the #1 halfpipe rider in the United States by the USSA ranking system.
Steve grew up in Saint Louis Park, a suburb out of Minneapolis. As a young boy, his home mountain was Buck Hill which was home to one of the first halfpipes in the Midwest. Steve rode at Buck hill every day and night until he was ten years old, saying that he rarely spent any time at home during the winter. He began competing in local competitions at age eight and qualified for USASA nationals by age nine. Fisher went pro in 2002 when he was asked by the US Snowboarding Team to forerun the 2002 Olympic halfpipe event and become a part of US Snowboarding.
Steve is now retired from snowboarding. He spends his days attending to his Donkey name Casper and his evenings watching spaghetti westerns.

David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16 November 1855 from what is now known as Livingstone Island, one of two land masses in the middle of the river, immediately upstream from the falls on the Zambian side. Livingstone named his discovery in honour of Queen Victoria, but the indigenous name, Mosi-oa-Tunya—"the smoke that thunders"—continues in common usage as well. The nearby national park in Zambia, for example, is named Mosi-oa-Tunya, whereas the national park and town on the Zimbabwean shore are both named Victoria Falls. The World Heritage List officially recognizes both names.
One of our most memorable fishing trips after trophy sized Tigerfish on the upper Zambezi river. Staying at the fantastic Matoya Fishing Lodge. We fished low water in October which is big tiger time !. Watch the film to see some monster tigers over 16lbs. Great people and a stunning place to fish.
It is one of the great rivers of the world, yet apart from the Victoria Falls most of is virtually unknown to the world - it is the Zambezi. And the full story of its journey and the life that the river controls through its seasons of flood and drought has never been fully told. ZAMBEZI is a visually stunning two part series that follows the river from its headwaters to its delta. Through the seasons and both the wildlife as well as human cultures the films tell the story of the Zambezi through the times of rain and plenty to the dry months when its waters are the only source of life for everything. http://www.sciencevision.at/en.php/sambesi

When build Lake Kariba was the largest man-made lake in the world. Self Drive Do it Yourself Zimbabwe: http://www.selfdrive4x4.co.za/ The lake formed by the dam wall - 281 km long, 32 km across at its widest point, and covering 5000 square km - is now one of Zimbabwe's major tourist attractions. Tourism, however, was far from the minds of those who, in 1950 pointed out that the growing demands for coal by existing thermal power stations in central Africa could not be met after 1960 by the railway system. A source of hydroelectric power would have to be found. The largest river in central Africa, the Zambezi, seemed the obvious source of water and the Kariba Gorge met all the criteria for a dam wall. The Gorge had been discovered by David Livingstone and its position as a bottleneck at en...
