In this video, we meet a family of 5 living a minimalist lifestyle in a 600 square foot, 1 bedroom apartment, in Ontario, Canada. Heather, Dominique and their 3 children moved from an 800 square foot suburban condo into this 600 square foot apartment to reduce their living expenses in order to pay for an early intervention therapy program for their eldest son who is autistic. The cost of the therapy program is over $5,000 CAD, per month. They’re able to save close to $2,000 each month by keeping their living expenses low, and they fundraise the rest of the money they need.
The apartment has a kitchen and bathroom and one large living area that they use as a dining room, living room, and master bedroom for the parents. The single bedroom has a set of bunk beds, and one crib, as well as lots of floor space for toys like a trampoline.
The couple have gotten into the habit of regularly donating stuff they don’t need, doing the dishes and cleaning up frequently to keep the space clutter-free, and living without things after they break instead of replacing them (like their kettle for example).
The couple says they’re able to make this minimalist living situation work because they prioritize their son’s therapy and education over accumulating objects. At first, this was meant to be a short-term living situation to pay for their son’s therapy for the first year, but they’re enjoying the simplicity and the savings that their lifestyle brings and they may continue after the year is up so that they can save more money for future expenses that might come up.

Conor & Brittany have embraced an extreme minimalist lifestyle in order to create more space in their lives for the things they love - like acrobatics, travel, and cultivating meaningful relationships. When they're in the US, they're usually living in their tiny house: an RV named Winnie. They also travel internationally with small packs.
The pair transitioned to simple living a few years ago, leaving stressful work and unhealthy habits behind. The spark for their lifestyle priority shift was their diet. They now eat a plant-based diet that gives them more energy than they've ever had before.
They've also simplified their spending and made budgeting easy by having only 2 credit cards: 1 for food, and 1 for travel.
Living in an RV is a perfect fit for the couple's nomadic lifestyle as it allows them to eat & sleep wherever they are.

ok, so about this episode of becoming minimalist.
for me, it's not about how many or how few things you own. i would never get rid of something just to prove a point or to be good. it's not a competition. it's not about forcing yourself to give a thing up that means something to you.
i don't believe it's anything wrong with owning things. some things make life easier, more beautiful, happier, and more comfortable.
i'm not talking about those things, the good stuff. i'm talking about the things that weigh you down. about reaching the point where you feel overwhelmed, heavy, wasteful, and crowded. for a lot of people, that point never gets reached. for others, like me, that point is reached quite easily. for others yet, owning more than the absolute essentials is stressful. we are all different, and that's totally ok.

My shopping addiction was one of the very first things I had to change when starting a simple life. Many minimalist blogs and channels have taught me some really good tips on how to not buy or feel the need to have unnecessary things. There comes a moment when we have to be true to ourselves and ask “Do we really need this?” or “Do we really want it?”. I hope this video helps you change your shopping habits to living a simple life not tied down by so many materialistic things . It is possible for anyone to do this it just takes time. Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts. The pair transitioned to simple living a few years ago, leaving stressful work and unhealthy habits behind. The spark for their lifestyle priority shift was their diet. They now eat a plant-based diet that gives them more energy than they've ever had before. At first, this was meant to be a short-term living situation to pay for their son’s therapy for the first year, but they’re enjoying the simplicity and the savings that their lifestyle brings and they may continue after the year is up so that they can save more money for future expenses that might come up.

Tips:
Don’t keep things just because they’re in a set.
Downsize first.
Hang pot lids on doors.
Make your own ziploc bag dispenser with SoftPacks or the original box and Command Velcro strips.
Use floating shelves to house salt, pepper, and olive oil (keep counters bare).
Stack as little as possible.
Utilize vertical space.
Put down clear liners underneath the sink.
Use one brush for the drain only.
Limit desserts and sweet drinks to cut down kitchenware by 40% (and improve health).

Stack as little as possible.
Utilize vertical space.

ok, so about this episode of becoming minimalist.
for me, it's not about how many or how few things you own. i would never get rid of something just to prove a point or to be good. it's not a competition. it's not about forcing yourself to give a thing up that means something to you.
i don't believe it's anything wrong with owning things. some things make life easier, more beautiful, happier, and more comfortable.
i'm not talking about those things, the good stuff. i'm talking about the things that weigh you down. about reaching the point where you feel overwhelmed, heavy, wasteful, and crowded. for a lot of people, that point never gets reached. for others, like me, that point is reached quite easily. for others yet, owning more than the absolute essentials is stressful. we are all different, and that's totally ok.
