Sulfuric Acid in the form of drain cleaner, Potassium Nitrate or KNO3 in the form of stump remover, and 100% cotton balls. in
To get the Sulfuric acid and the KNO3, I headed down to my local Lows Hardware Store. (video of getting the 2 products plus outside video)To get the 100% cotton, I went Target and picked up a pack of cotton balls. When working with sulfuric acid, always where gloves. To begin this project, we first need to find a large container that will allow space for a smaller container inside of it. The smaller container will contain the actual chemical mixing. Next, we need to fill the space between the large container and the smaller container with Ice Water. This chemical reaction we are about to attempt is an exothermic reaction, meaning it produces heat when the reaction occurs. For best results, we must keep the reaction below 70 degrees F. In order to do this, we need to fill the larger container half full with Ice water that will surround the smaller container. For this recipe, we will weigh out 120 grams of Potassium Nitrate and set it aside for now. Next we need to add 440 ML to our small container. I converted 440 mL into 1.8 cups. Now we add the Potassium Nitrate to our Sulfuric Acid and let the reaction begin. Stir for several minutes to ensure a thorough reaction. This is recommended to done outside, but if it is arctic temperatures outside like in my situation, you may have to do this inside. If you are inside, remember you need good ventilation system. In either location, this is toxic gas and should not be breathed in. Once Thoroughly stirred, you can start adding your cotton. For this batch I was able to ad about 14 grams of cotton. Next, we need to set the containers outside and let the cotton set in the solution for 24 hours for best results. After Multiple hours of drying, we have finished Gun Cotton. I will have many video on my channel in the future showing the uses of gun cotton and how powerful it can be. If you liked this video, please drop a like and subscribe because it really helps the channel out and if you have time, check out my other videos, have a great day.
