Sudden rains followed by heavy gales wreaked havoc in various parts of Karimnagar town on Friday evening, with many trees getting uprooted and electric poles falling, forcing people to remain in darkness due to blackout of power supply.

Heavy gales cast their impact on the Collectorate office premises too, with the uprooting of electric poles and huge trees. Since Friday night, the administration and other office works in various departments housed in the Collectorate office premises have come to a halt following power cuts.

The electricity department authorities had a tough time removing the uprooted poles and mangled electric wires since Saturday morning. It is estimated that more than 45 electric poles were damaged in the gales and rains causing huge loss to the electricity department. Similarly, the municipal authorities also worked round the clock for the removal of uprooted trees on the main roads near the Collectorate and on the premises. Several other central government offices such as BSNL, PF office, etc. were also plunged into darkness following the power outage throughout the day. The residents suffered more due to the ongoing heat wave.
