Tobii & SteelSeries create the future of gaming with eye tracking
Tobii and SteelSeries team up to bring gamers the world's first eye tracking gaming gear. Be first in creating the future of gaming with eye tracking. Eye tracking increases the bandwidth between the gamer and the game, allowing gamers to do more at the same time, which also creates a richer gaming experience. Add an extra aiming mechanism, remove the interruption of the game play by creating easier access to menus and commands, or make games with complex controls easier to learn. New Glass Input Methods: Eye-Tracking, Web Control, Touch-Sensitive Clothing, and Bananas
*Please view in fullscreen HD*. Accompanying blog post http://blog.brandynwhite.com/new-glass-input-methods_eye-tracking_touch-sensitive-clothing. How we interact with a device largely determines the context that it can be used in (e.g., while driving, during a meeting) and potentially who can use it (e.g., users with disabilities). In this video we demonstrate a custom eye tracker for Glass that can be built for $25 and using a Makey Makey with Glass. Glass supports touch gestures (e.g., swipe, tap, scroll), head gestures (e.g, tilt up turns display on, gesture down turns display off), and voice controls (e.g., "ok glass", voice input). By using the IMU sensors directly (as we show here) it's simple to extend the range of head gestures. There is a proximity sensor that is used by Glass to determine if the device is being worn. It is capable of recognizing wink/blink gestures but it cannot actually track the gaze of the user. We hope that these new input methods can be used to expand when Glass is relevant for use (e.g., with your hands full) or who can use it (e.g., users with disabilities). They are intended for developers and researchers, we don't intend for people to use our eye tracker while walking around. It's essentially a very cheap and easy way for all of us to have this feature before it is integrated into the device directly (eventually some manufacturer will do it) and if we find interesting use cases it may even advance the timeline for their inclusion. All of the code and 3D models are available in http://www.WearScript.com. I'd like to thank Form Labs for printing our eye tracking model on their Form 1, Justin Chase for helping to get the NES emulator running on WearScript, Moritz Kassner and Will Patera for creating the Pupil project from which our webcam modifications are based on, Scott Greenwald for contributing the Web Keyboard for Glass to WearScript, everyone else who has contributed to WearScript including Andrew Miller, Kurt Nelson, Conner Brooks, and Alexander Conroy, and everyone on the Glass team for making this project possible.- published: 14 Nov 2013

Faces
This is a technical demo for face substitution technique. The application works in real time and it's developed using the opensource framework for creative coding openFrameworks: http://openFrameworks.cc
Most of the "magic" happens thanks to Jason Saragih's c++ library for face tracking http://web.mac.com/jsaragih/FaceTracker/FaceTracker.html. The face tracking library returns a mesh that matches the contour of the eyes, nose, mouth and other facial features.
That way the mesh obtained from a photo is matched to my own face in the video. Applying some color interpolation algorithms from Kevin Atkinson's image clone code: http://methodart.blogspot.com/ gives it the blending effect that can be seen in the final footage.
I'm also using Kyle McDonald's ofxFaceTracker addon for openframeworks https://github.com/kylemcdonald/ofxFaceTracker which wraps Jason's library for easier use.
Kyle has uploaded another video giving a try at a different blending algorithm, which get rids of the artifacts and an even creepier look: http://vimeo.com/29348533

MINUS112 - "Some Slip" by Gaiser
Gaiser
Some Slip
MINUS112 12”, WAV, MP3
Continuing a busy run of recent releases on Minus is one of the label’s core contributors, namely Jon Gaiser. Since late 2005, the Detroit-born, Berlin-based producer has been intrinsically linked to the rise and rise of the label owing to key releases like his Eye Contact EP, genre defining 2008 full length, Blank Fade, and last year's huge EP, Unstable Witness. When not busy translating new experiences and sensations into abstract techno sounds, the man occupies himself by endlessly touring the globe - playing clubs and festivals in Europe, Japan and the States: it is for that reason that he is one of the most celebrated Minus associates of them all…
The first of two new offerings is ‘Some Slip.’ Hitting the ground running, it’s at once a firm, drum-led track that wastes no time in clearing a path down which you gleefully march. The track really comes to life when a hidden bassline begins to rise and fall freely a third of the way through. As it weaves its way through endlessly dripping, popping, aqueous FX, the whole thing feels as tall as it does wide and as heady as it does deep… wig-out, late-night stuff for sure.
Busier and more complex is ‘Elastrik’ where de-tuned synth sounds shoot off in all directions as the clicking bass rotations below endlessly churn up the dancefloor. It’s crisp stuff that establishes rhythm early on and focuses on percussive and synthesised detail for the rest of its course. Hurried alien sounds interject as if they have a life of their own and drag the track’s focus point from side to side, front to back, ensuring you get lost in its darkened midst without reserve.
There’s a duality to Gaiser’s work which means it’s both bold and instinctive but subtle and intricate, and this two-tracker is another fine example of just how exciting that interplay can be.
