Ffos Las is a rural area between the villages of Carway and Trimsaran, north of the town of Llanelli in the Gwendraeth Valley in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
The Ffos Las area is named after a farm which had existed at the site before mining operations began. The English translation of ffos las is blue ditch. Ffos Las was once the site of an open cast mining operation which operated between 1983 and 1997. At one time, it was the largest open cast mine in Europe and was 500ft deep.
Ffos Las is now best known for the Ffos Las racecourse which was completed in 2009. The racecourse is built on top of the in-filled open cast mine.
There are proposals by house builders Persimmon to build around 250 houses on a part of the racecourse development site. 69 properties are planned for the first phase of construction.

Clive is one of a growing number of older workers in Wales who are reinventing themselves and retraining for an extension of their earning years. It is forecast that by 2020 a third of the Welsh workforce will be aged over 50. The Welsh Government is urging employers to invest in their older employees’ skills and help them extend their working lives, both for their own wellbeing and the health of Welsh businesses. Firms need to hold on to valuable skills and experience in order to grow and to avoid a huge threatened shortage of workers in the next decade.
Llanelli, the largest town in both the county of Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales, sits on the Loughor estuary on the West Wales coast, approximately 10 miles west-northwest of Swansea and 12 miles south-east of the county town, Carmarthen. The town is famous for its proud rugby tradition and is a centre of tinplate production. In the mid-20th century, Llanelli was the largest town in the world where more than half the population spoke a Celtic language. It is ranked the 7th largest urban area in Wales. According to the 2011 UK Census returns, 23.7% of Llanelli town residents could speak the Welsh language. This video is targeted to blind users. You've got No friends and so you're lonely.
It does not have to be this way
Just be yourself, the one and only
It take some time but that's okay
Alright, no need to fight
'cause everybody's different
and there's nothin you can do about it
and just because i dont look like you or act like you
It doesn't make me any better or worse
I used to be just like you
Until I found better things to do
than worry about what the others think
or wonder if there's something wrong with me
You hate yourself cause you're not like them
well understand that this is wrong
You're better off doing your own thing,
