A filing cabinet (or sometimes file cabinet in American English) is a piece of office furniture usually used to store paper documents in file folders. In the most simple context, it is an enclosure for drawers in which items are stored. The two most common forms of filing cabinets are vertical files and lateral files. A vertical file cabinet has drawers that extend from the short side (typically 15 inches) of the cabinet. A lateral file cabinet has drawers that extend from the long side (various lengths) of the cabinet. These are also called side filers in Great Britain. There are also shelf files, which go on shelves. In the United States, file cabinets are usually built to accommodate 8.5 × 11 paper, and in other countries, filing cabinets are often designed to hold other sizes of paper, such as A4 paper.
Office filing cabinets are typically made of sheet metal or wood. The drawers usually use a drawer slide to facilitate opening the drawer which includes an "outstop" to prevent the drawer from being pulled completely out of the cabinet. To open a drawer on most metal filing cabinets, a small sliding mechanism known as a "thumblatch" must be pressed to release and open the drawer. Each drawer has a handle to grip and pull the drawer with. On the front face of each drawer, there is usually a label holder to allow the user to identify the contents of the drawer.

Neal Morgan (born March 7, 1979) is an American drummer, arranger of drums and percussion, and singer-songwriter. Morgan is best known as the drummer for Joanna Newsom and Bill Callahan.
Morgan began drumming for Joanna Newsom in 2006 for the touring cycle in support of her second album Ys. In a 2007 interview, Newsom said of Morgan "I am in awe of him...he elevates literally every musical project he touches." He arranged drums and percussion for the live performance of that material as well as arranging for songs from her debut release, The Milk-Eyed Mender. Morgan contributed singing as well as performing his drum and percussion arrangements on Newsom's 2007 EP Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band. Morgan arranged and performed the drums and percussion on Newsom's third record, the triple album Have One On Me, released in 2010, and accompanied Newsom in live performance for the tour cycle for that record, often opening shows with solo sets of drumming and singing.
He arranged and performed drums and percussion for the songs Sapokanikan, Goose Eggs, and Waltz of the 101st Lightborne from Newsom's 2015 LP Divers.

The block where Willis Earl Beal's grandmother has lived for over 50 years in Chicago's South Side is 2-for-1 barbershops and churches to inhabited houses. Willis lives in a claustrophobic room off the kitchen big enough for a bed, a mini-fridge, an over-stuffed file cabinet, and semi-permanent stacks of Bukowski novels, cd's, newspaper clippings, clothes, and a boombox. On an afternoon the sun was wrestling free of winter's chilly grip, Willis sang, sat, spoke, and filled curious stranger's days with stories of a guy who'll sing you a song if you give him a call.
I freed the Salathe Wall in October 2005. An amazing girl I met on the top of El Cap while stashing gear, Cybele Blood, helped me out by belaying and jugging the wall with me and diving into the adventure. Two weeks after I freed the Salathe, Cybele and I went back with my good friend Jimmy Chin to shoot photos on the route. As an afterthought, he grabbed a buddy's small Sony handcam to take some video clips also. I just came across the old mini-DV tapes while cleaning out a file cabinet, and put together this video. Brings back some memories! To read a story about this ascent, check out my first book High Infatuation: http://www.highinfatuation.com/

It seems that “archive” is having its turn as one of those words, like “the body,” “visuality,” “hybridity,” “the aesthetic” and so on, that surge suddenly and sometimes surprisingly into fashion as the must-have accessory of the moment. This may be reason enough to try to go back to recover something of the edge and point of arguments made thirty years ago about the historical relationship between photography and the archive. The issues can hardly be said to be less pressing now. So perhaps, before we try to distance the effects of the archive as endlessly fraught by melancholy and the uncanny, we should try to encounter its machinery in the full force and confidence of its operation as an apparatus of rationalization and social management––an archiving machine that, in grasping and appro...
Inspired by the noise machines of Luigi Russolo, this piece places various vibrating devices that would normally be found in the bedroom or bathroom on a rotating turntable. The devices pass in front of two guitar pickups, and the resulting audio signal is sent to an amplification system housed within a metal structure made of dismantled folding chairs, a cooking pot, a filing cabinet, and a trash bin.
Neal Morgan sits in his garage behind a scaled-back kit and an array of mics, warming up his arms and voice while our crew crams between file cabinets and stray furniture, ancient speakers and ghetto blasters, stacked drums and clutter etcetera. Outside in the driveway a pad of moss grows from under the left taillight of a Subaru. The cloud is above and it’s just barely drizzling. Leafy winter edibles row the backyard garden. It's fitting to listen to the performance from here, where the separation between sound and its origin subtly corresponds to the abstractions presented by Morgan's music: part melismatic lyrical impression, part narrative percussion, each half compensates for the expressive limitations of its counterpart. The result reads like a man exhausted by a long math problem...
Film by Eric Minh Swenson. Jeff Colson grew up near the oil fields just north of Bakersfield, California. His father was a social worker whose do-it-yourself aesthetic, making everything from toys to homemade life jackets, informed Colson’s own identity as a “crackpot tinkerer.” In his sculpture, Colson refers to both that quirky, by-the-seat-of-your-pants decision-making process and Modernism’s purist grid. The sculptures are fabricated from both personal and cultural memory, often without referencing specific objects or images. The resulting forms are familiar, but aren’t real. The ambiguous quality of the “fabricated” object that is real and isn’t “real” registers the distortions of memory on “remembered” images and/or events. Colson’s sculptures are physical documents of remem...

So I make my own lightning, but I didn't make enough so I used some old black webs I had lying about. Got the Tai Chi out of the filing cabinet too. I will one day finish this track, but all in good time. I will one day finish the video as well - but it'll take months. So this is a preview to see if anyone likes it.

David Paulides CanAm Missing is a group of retired police officers, search and rescue experts (SAR) and other professionals that are dedicated to researching, on scene investigating and generally understanding the issues associated with people who go missing in the wilds of North America. This has typically been a project that is intensely worked by search and rescue teams starting when the victim is reported lost and usually continuing for the following 7-14 days, the case then flounders in a file cabinet. After years of reading thousands of SAR reports, speaking with dozens of victims, we believe the paradigm of this effort needs change.
