Jaipur: Mohammed Sirajuddin is a member of Islamic State. This is according to the chargesheet filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) here on Saturday.

The 33-year-old was arrested in Jaipur last year by the anti-terrorism squad of the Rajasthan police. Sirajuddin was an engineering post-graduate and worked as an assistant manager at the office of Indian Oil Corporation here.

He was arrested by the ATS for his alleged inclination towards IS, which is a banned organisation. The ATS accused him of promoting IS ideology and inciting people to become its members. He is said to have been using social networking sites like Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram for "anti-national activities".

In the NIA chargesheet filed at a special NIA court (NIA Cases/CBI-01 court) in Jaipur, the agency has claimed that the accused was a member of Islamic State (IS) and was providing support to it.

The 2,500-page charge sheet also charges him of criminal conspiracy under relevant sections of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

NIA took over the investigation from Rajasthan ATS on February 29, 2016, on orders from Union home ministry. "The accused is charged under section 120B (Criminal Conspiracy) of IPC and various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, including section 13 (Punishment for Unlawful Activities), section 18 (Punishment for Terrorist Conspiracy, etc), section 38 (Membership of Terrorist Organisation) and section 39 (Offences Relating to Support Given To Terrorist Organisation)," said a senior NIA officer after the filing of the chargesheet on Saturday.
