Cavall

Cavall (Middle Welsh: cauall RBH & WBR; modernized: Cafall; pronunciation: /kaˈvaɬ/; Latin: Cabal, var. Caball (ms.K))) is the name of Arthur's dog, used in the hunt for the great boar, Twrch Trwyth (Latin: Troynt, Troit).

Cavall was Arthur's "favourite dog", and during a stag hunt, he was customarily the last dog to be let loose to chase after the game (Gereint Son of Erbin).

Historia Brittonum

Legend in antiquity has it that Cabal left his permanent footprint in the rock while pursuing the boar Troynt. The lore is preserved in the Wonders of Britain (De Mirabilibus Britanniae or Mirabilia in shorthand) appended to Historia Brittonum (9th century). The wonderous nature of this cairn of stones was that even if someone removed that footprinted stone to another spot, it would be back at its original heap the next day.

The Latin account has the mark of age, since it refers to Arthur merely as warrior and not king. The full quote in translation is given in the Twrch Trwyth (or wikisource), but Lady Guest's notes might best be consulted, since it provides both the Latin text and translation, as well as commentary on the Carn Cavall as well (Schreiber 1849, pp. 358–360).

Cabal (Dibdin novel)

Cabal is a novel by Michael Dibdin, and the third entry in the Aurelio Zen series.

When, one dark night in November, Prince Ludovico Ruspanti fell a hundred and fifty feet to his death in the chapel at St. Peter's, Rome, there were a number of questions to be answered. The answer the Vatican housekeepers want is rubber-stamped suicide. Zen, whose bad luck it is to be on call that night, is keen to oblige and return to his girlfriend's bed. Unfortunately for him, things turn out to be not that simple and he finds that getting the real answers is by no means easy, as witness after witness is mysteriously silenced - by violent death. To crack the secret of the Vatican, Zen must penetrate the most secret place of all: the fabled Cabal. How much of a threat does it represent? How far could it reach? Does it even exist?

TV adaptation

The novel was adapted for television by the BBC, starring Rufus Sewell in the title role. It was aired in January 2011.

Cabal (video game)

Cabal (カベール, Kabēru) is a 1988 arcade video game originally developed by TAD Corporation and published in Japan by Taito Corporation and in North America and Europe by Fabtek. In this game, the player controls a commando, viewed from behind, trying to destroy various enemy military bases. The game was innovative for the era, and a modest success in sales.

Gameplay

Cabal offers one player and two-player-simultaneous modes of gameplay. Each player assumes the role of an unnamed commando trying to destroy several enemy military bases. There are 5 stages with 4 screens each. The player starts with a stock of three lives and uses a gun with limitless ammunition and a fixed number of grenades to fend off enemy troops and attack the base. The commando is seen from behind and initially starts behind a protective wall which can be damaged and shattered by enemy fire. To stay alive, the player needs to avoid enemy bullets by running left or right, hiding behind cover, or using a dodge-roll. An enemy gauge at the bottom of the screen depletes as foes are destroyed and certain structures (which collapse rather than shatter) are brought down. When the enemy gauge is emptied, the level is successful completed, all of the remaining buildings onscreen collapse, and the player progresses to the next stage. If a player is killed, he is immediately revived at the cost of one life or game overs if he has no lives remaining. Boss fights, however, restart from the beginning if the only remaining player dies.

TEC-9

The Intratec TEC-9 or TEC-DC9 or AB-10 is a blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol, chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum. It was designed by Intratec, an American offshoot of Interdynamic AB. The TEC-9 was made of inexpensive molded polymers and a mixture of stamped and milled steel parts.

History

Swedish company Interdynamic AB of Stockholm designed the Interdynamic MP-9 9mm submachine gun. Intended as an inexpensive submachine gun based on the Carl Gustav M/45 for military applications, Interdynamic did not find a government buyer, so it was taken to US market as an open-bolt semi-automatic KG-9 pistol. The open bolt design was too easy to convert to full-auto. Because of this, the ATF forced Interdynamic to redesign it into a closed-bolt system, which was harder to convert to full-auto. This variant was called the KG-99. It made frequent appearances on Miami Vice, where it was legally converted to full-auto by Title II manufacturers. The KG-9 and KG-99 have an open end upper receiver tube where the bolt, recoil springs and buffer plate are held in place by the plastic/polymer lower receiver frame. This design only allows for 115 grain 9mm ammo. If heavier grain ammo or hot loads are used, the plastic lower receiver will fail/crack rendering the firearm unusable. The later model TEC-9 and AB-10 have a threaded upper receiver tube (at the rear) and screw on end cap to contain the bolt , recoil spring and buffer plate, even if removed from the lower receiver. This solves the problem of lower receiver failure when using "hot ammo".

Staré is a village and municipality in Michalovce District in the Kosice Region of eastern Slovakia.

In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1221.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 107 metres and covers an area of 6.234 km². The municipality has a population of about 700 people. The name was taken from grof Staray.

Star (Milky album)

Star is a 2002 studio album by the techno/house/electronic production group known as Milky.

The first track on this album is “Just The Way You Are,” With its American release, “Just The Way You Are” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Airplay Monitor Dance Chart. Milky’s second single, “In My Mind,” with vocals by Giuditta, is a track which has a combination of trumpets, Italian guitars and steel drums, forming a backdrop for Giuditta’s romantic declaration to her new lover. The third single is “Be My World”. Many songs in this album have clear rhythmic and melodic influences from Bossa nova. Artists such as Atomic Kitten, DJ Sammy and Kaci have requested to have Milky remixes of their songs.

5Star (styled as 5STAR, formerly styled with an asterisk as 5*) is a British digital television channel owned by Viacom International Media Networks Europe. It is a sister channel of Channel 5. It originally launched as the female-oriented Five Life on 15 October 2006, and was rebranded as Fiver on 28 April 2008 with a revised version of the same concept. The channel later re-branded under its current name on 7 March 2011.

The channel is available on digital television via Freesat, Freeview, Sky, and Virgin Media, and broadcasts between 09:00 and 04:00.

History

2006–08: Five Life

The channel was intended to be a female-oriented channel with an emphasis on lifestyle programming. Channel 5 announced that programming on launch would include The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Love My Way, Windfall, Angela's Eyes, and a weekday double-bill of the chat show Trisha Goddard. On 16 October 2006, a day following the channel's launch, Australian soap opera Home and Away began airing from episode 4212 (Season 19). New episodes are shown Monday to Friday in a 'First Look' screening with episodes following the Channel 5 airing. A weekly omnibus also airs every Sunday. Repeats of popular female-skewing dramas, both nationally and internationally produced, were soon acquired. Following the channel's launch, a time-shift version of the channel was launched in summer 2007.
