Free Oil Painting Lesson - Art Class Alla Prima Demonstration - Sunny Colorado Aspen Trees by Bill Inman filmed in Muncie, Indiana. Want to learn how to quickly block in and capture the essence of a sunny day on an aspen covered hill top? I lived at the base of the Greenhorn Mountains in Rye, Colorado for 12 years and was surrounded by aspen trees and mountains. Their twisting trunks and dramatic colors will forever be a life long fascination and favorite painting subject for me. We discuss light and shadow, composition, edge quality, color harmonies and warm and cool color temperatures. We also iterate the need for painting from life as often as possible and only attempting subjects we are intimately familiar with based on plein air studies and on location research. If you've ever struggled with the initial starting points of a painting - how to keep the beginning stages loose and abstract, concentrating on large abstract color masses and shapes rather than time consuming details - you will learn to quickly paint your subject in a way that allows you to adjust and change areas without worrying about too much time investment. This will help you avoid stiff, lifeless trees and create a more natural feeling in your painting. There are moments in the video where nothing seems to be happening - that is when I am thinking and analyzing. I do not have the equipment to mic the students so their questions are often lost.
