Since it’s been requested, and since people keep asking me to make them gloves, hopefully this’ll let you all make them for yourselves!

Crafty
Mutt pattern:
http://craftymutt.blogspot.co.uk/
2012/09/super-simple-knitted-scale-mail-glove
.html - I found that when buying it, the link appeared to malfunction after I paid, but the pattern arrived in my email inbox just fine!
Scales – search Etsy for ‘scale maille scales’, but my favourite supplier is - you need the
SMALL size for this, 400 scales in total: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/UpScaleMailleSupply?ref=search_shop_redirect
…
I’ve just seen there’s a UK supplier here, prices are probably comparable to the above, considering the postage would likely be cheaper, and you’d get them faster!: http://www.beadsisters.co.uk/pages/scales
.htm
Shopping list - also, scroll down to the step-by-step breakdown, I added some notes there, along with a written version of the pattern repeat!:
-Ball of
Aran or Worsted weight yarn
-Small amount of scrap yarn, ideally a very different colour to your main yarn
-400 dragon scales, size small
-Scissors
-Darning needle
-Set of 4mm double pointed needles (DPNs), that’s US size 6, UK size 8, though every UK supplier I’ve bought from goes with millimetres, so…4mm!
-Knitting counter, and a paper and pen to make a tally chart. If you have no knitting counter, use 2 different coloured pens to count rounds –
1,2,3,4, start over - then pattern repeats, which go up to 16.
Times of each step:
-Casting on, long tail method. For sizing, as I said, in this tutorial I started with 32 stitches, whereas for gloves my own size, I would use 28. The points at which I moved onto the next stick are pretty arbitrary, you just want a reasonably even division of stitches over the three needles – 7.24
-Introduction to knit and purl stitches, in both
British and
Continental style knitting - 11
.22
-Pattern begins: introduction to using double pointed needles (DPNs), and initial setup rows - 15.56
-Unpicking stitches in the event of disaster! - 20.42
-Beginning of pattern repeat – putting on dragon scales, see below for a written version of the pattern repeat - 21.16
***
Basic dragon scale pattern repeat for this glove:
Row 1 – Knit 2 stitches, *stitch with scale, knit stitch*, repeat between ** until 6 scales have been added, knit to end of round.
Row 2 – Purl to end
Row 3 – Knit 3 stitches *stitch with scale, knit stitch*, repeat between ** until 6 scales have been added, knit to end of round.
Row 4 – Purl to end
…repeat these 4 rounds 16 times, increasing during the 12th pattern repeat, adding thumb at
13th pattern repeat, both shown in part 2. Crafty Mutt pattern will give you the reversal of this for the left glove – just remember that while knitting in the round, where Crafty Mutt says ‘knit’ on rows 2 and 4, you instead need to
PURL. But in essence, all you’re doing for the opposite glove is taking that scaled section, and the 2 and 3 stitches beforehand, and putting it at the end of the round, rather than the beginning.
