Mary Thompson (died 1893) was one of the richest early African Americans in Seattle, Washington.
She owned the Minnehaha Saloon, which had a brothel upstairs. At the time of her death she owned real estate in Seattle and Butte, Montana. She also had a horse and carriage, an extensive jewellery collection, and $20,000 in cash. By the standards of the time, this made her quite wealthy.
Mary Thompson was a wealthy business owner.

Plot: Young couple Joe and Mary Thompson love each other and their children despite the struggles that they have that are typical of most young couples early on in their married life, such as the basics of trying to make ends meet. But after Joe leaves Mary and their inner city life, she finds an unpostmarked envelope under their apartment door with her name written in Joe's handwriting. It contains a letter explaining why he left. It has primarily to do with his feeling that another part of his life was being left behind for his married life, that other life which consists of a want to travel, especially sail the south seas. The actual impetus to leave was inadvertently fostered by Mary through the birthday present she bought for him. So what actually did happen to Joe and will he ever return to his loving wife?

Plot: In 1902, medicine show con man Dan Thompson settles down with the daughter he hardly knows in a New York theatrical boarding house full of eccentric characters. Plot: Col. Stanleigh is a "sporty" individual, infatuated with Mary Thompson, the sister-in-law of the post commandant, and the daughter of an old reprobate addicted to cups and cards. Mary loves Lieut. Jones. This fact infuriates Stanleigh, who plans dire revenge on both. Old Thompson, heavily indebted to Stanleigh, is induced by him to rob the safe of the monthly pay roll. Jones frustrates this plan, but is not disposed to ruin the weak old man, on account of the love he bears for his daughter. Stanleigh discovers this and diverts suspicion toward Jones, who is tried, convicted and sentenced. An Indian uprising calls the garrison away from the fort. Lieut. Jones rides out alone, disgraced. He discovers the ruse of the Indians in time to make a desperate ride, get in touch with the misguided troops, and get them back to save the post Poor old Thompson, mortally wounded, confesses his crime. This exonerates Jones and implicates Stanleigh. The lovers are again united and Stanleigh loses his insignia of rank.
