Emperor Tomato Ketchup is the fourth album by British alternative rock band Stereolab, released in April 1996. At the time it was their greatest success to date both commercially and critically. Three singles were released from the album: "Cybele's Reverie", "Metronomic Underground" and "The Noise of Carpet". It takes its name from the 1971 Shuji Terayama-directed Japanese film Tomato Kecchappu Kôtei (Emperor Tomato Ketchup).
It was ranked the 51st greatest album of the 1990s by Pitchfork Media.
All songs written by Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, except where indicated.
Depuis le temps que c'est promis
nous irons tous au paradis-
c'est un appel sourd une promesse
aveuglante qui noie la conscience;
ce paradis me pèse, son poids
incommensurable abruti;
ancrée dans des strates profondes,
une pulsion des plus aliénantes;
telle une fausse libération,
un état de pure dépendance;
le paradis est derrière moi
dans le ventre de ma maman-
unchallenged myths, they lie heavy,
l'imaginaire is our worse enemy,
the paradise, what an idea !
a guardian still on duty.

Since the time that it is promised
We will all go to Heaven
It is a deaf calling, a blind promise
That drowns the conscience.
Heaven weighs on me, it’s heaviness
Immeasurable stupidity
A most alienating instinct
What a false freedom
a state of pure dependence
Heaven is behind me
In the womb of my mother
unchallenged myths, they lie heavy,
The imaginary is our worse enemy,
The paradise, what an idea !
