Three men wielding weapons attempted to break into a Coburg jewellery shop on Saturday afternoon.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the three armed men attempted to enter the jewellery store on Sydney Road, near Bell Street, about 2.15pm.

Staff and customers insideat the time were not injured.

Security footage shows three men trying to smash the front door down, armed with a shotgun, axe and knife.

"One of the workers here tried to confront them and then they pointed at us, they pointed at him a shotgun and then they ran away," an employee told Seven News.

The men left in a vehicle, police said.

It's believed to be the third time the store has been targeted by thieves.

Detectives from Fawkner Embona taskforce are investigating.
