Philip Lind, Executive Vice President Regulatory and Vice Chairman Rogers Communications Inc. provided a very informative and interesting keynote address during Solar Canada 2014 titled Breaking Down Barriers: Regulatory Adventures of a Telecommunications Giant. Mr. Phil Lind joined Rogers in 1969 as Programming Chief and has served as Secretary of the Board and Senior Vice President, Programming and Planning. Also, Mr. Lind served on Ontario Hydro’s Board of Directors during the 1980s and into the 1990s. During his many years at Rogers Communications, Mr. Lind was often referred to as Ted Rogers’ “right hand guy”. Rogers is well known as the company that trail blazed the disruptive cable and communications technology industry through a monopolistic and a highly regulated environment, to become a dominant player in the industry. In his keynote address, Mr. Lind shared his ‘in the trenches’ experience regarding Rogers Communications ‘game changing’ regulatory adventures and provide insights on how the solar energy industry can navigate through its own highly regulated industry, in an effort to change the electricity landscape. He provided inspiration and valuable lessons to assist us as the solar industry looks to become a main stream, and someday dominant, energy source.
