An emergency landing is a landing made by an aircraft in response to a crisis which either interferes with the operation of the aircraft or involves sudden medical emergencies necessitating diversion to the nearest airport.
There are several different types of emergency landings for powered aircraft: planned landing or unplanned landing
Emergency landing is an unplanned landing made by an aircraft in response to a crisis which either interferes with the operation of the aircraft or involves sudden medical emergencies necessitating diversion to the nearest airport.
Emergency Landing may also refer to:
An emergency is a situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property, or environment. Most emergencies require urgent intervention to prevent a worsening of the situation, although in some situations, mitigation may not be possible and agencies may only be able to offer palliative care for the aftermath.
While some emergencies are self-evident (such as a natural disaster that threatens many lives), many smaller incidents require that an observer (or affected party) decide whether it qualifies as an emergency. The precise definition of an emergency, the agencies involved and the procedures used, vary by jurisdiction, and this is usually set by the government, whose agencies (emergency services) are responsible for emergency planning and management.
An incident, to be an emergency, conforms to one or more of the following: if it:
Landing is the last part of a flight, where a flying animal, aircraft, or spacecraft returns to the ground. When the flying object returns to water, the process is called alighting, although it is commonly called "landing," "touchdown" or "splashdown" as well. A normal aircraft flight would include several parts of flight including taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent and landing.
Aircraft usually land at an airport on a firm runway or helicopter landing pad, generally constructed of asphalt concrete, concrete, gravel or grass. Aircraft equipped with pontoons (floatplane) or with a boat hull-shaped fuselage (a flying boat) are able to land on water. Aircraft also sometimes use skis to land on snow or ice.
To land, the airspeed and the rate of descent are reduced such that the object descends at a low enough rate to allow for a gentle touch down. Landing is accomplished by slowing down and descending to the runway. This speed reduction is accomplished by reducing thrust and/or inducing a greater amount of drag using flaps, landing gear or speed brakes. When a fixed-wing aircraft approaches the ground, the pilot will move the control column back to execute a flare or round-out. This increases the angle of attack. Progressive movement of the control column back will allow the aircraft to settle onto the runway at minimum speed, landing on its main wheels first in the case of a tricycle gear aircraft or on all three wheels simultaneously in the case of a conventional landing gear-equipped aircraft, commonly referred to as a "taildragger". This is known as flaring.
Flight is the process by which an object moves, through an atmosphere (the air in the case of earth) or beyond it (as in the case of spaceflight) without direct support from any surface. This can be achieved by generating aerodynamic lift, propulsive thrust, aerostatically using buoyancy, or by ballistic movement.
Many things fly, from natural aviators such as birds, bats and insects to human inventions such as missiles, aircraft such as airplanes, helicopters and balloons, to rockets such as spacecraft.
The engineering aspects of flight are studied in aerospace engineering which is subdivided into aeronautics, the study of vehicles that travel through the air, and astronautics, the study of vehicles that travel through space, and in ballistics, the study of the flight of projectiles.
Humans have managed to construct lighter than air vehicles that raise off the ground and fly, due to their buoyancy in air.
An aerostat is a system that remains aloft primarily through the use of buoyancy to give an aircraft the same overall density as air. Aerostats include free balloons, airships, and moored balloons. An aerostat's main structural component is its envelope, a lightweight skin containing a lifting gas to provide buoyancy, to which other components are attached.

On the morning of April 15th Thomas Cook flight MT2718 departed Manchester bound for Las Vegas. Around 20-30 minutes into the flight and just off the east coast of Ireland the Airbus A330-200 turned back and headed back to Manchester. The aircraft held for around 15-20 minutes over the Irish sea dumping fuel. As they left their hold they declared an emergency and squawked 7700. The 17 year old aircraft then descended and approached into Manchester. Fire crews were out and waited for the arrival of the aircraft. Just after 11am the a330 touched down at Manchester, where it taxied off runway 23R and came to a stop on the taxiway. Here fire crews inspected the aircraft, shortly after the A330-200 spooled up and taxied to a remote stand. There is no confirmation as to the cause of the emergen...

Cathay Pacific Emergency Landing - CX884 Hong Kong - Los Angeles The events in this video occurred during my flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles and documents the emergency landing as it happens. We were around half way into the flight when the captain announced we would have to make an emergency landing, it was at this point the crew began to give instructions on what we had to do. This included how to perform the brace position correctly and invited us removing the life jacket from under out seats and strapping it around us. At one point a crew member comes over the PA and announces that we might have to make an emergency water ditch, meaning we could be forced to attempt a landing on the ...
On approach into the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. the pilot announced that there was an indication problem for the front landing gear in the cockpit, meaning that the gear did not extend properly or was vulnerable to collapse. The initial flyover of the airport was probably for the ground crews and ATC to check if the gear was down; apparently it was. The landing was perfect and I thought that the pilots, cabin crew, and Akron ground crews did an excellent job of handling the situation. This flight originated from Atlanta Hartsfield Int'l Airport. I'm glad to have been to record the entire emergency situation briefing from the cockpit This was the most exciting flight I've ever been on!

*Please read the description* First off, my sincerest apologies for the shakiness. I had been spotting for a couple hours in near freezing temperatures and was really starting to feel it by the time the emergency occurred. My tripod was damaged and would jerk downward if I put too much pressure on it (as seen during touchdown). At the time, I was unsure which arrival was the emergency which led to some scrambling to capture the video. A massive 100-foot-long Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter made an emergency landing on Wednesday in Solana Beach in southern California. The helicopter is the largest and heaviest in the U.S. military, and is often used for transporting troops and carrying supplies into enemy territory. However, it has known safety problems, as a recent NBC News investigation revealed. A low oil-pressure indicator light went on in the cockpit, resulting in the sudden landing, according to a statement from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The precautionary landing came during a training exercise; there were no damages or injuries but residents, Gunnery Sgt. Donald Bohanner said, and beach-goers got to experience quite a spectacle. Four hours after landing, the helicopter took off and headed b...

Hey guys! Here is the video of our flight from Plant City, Florida to Bradley International, Connecticut. When we reached 20,000 feet we experienced a huge drop in manifold pressure in our right engine. Will Smith immediately initiated an emergency descent and landing at Ocala International Airport. This is definitely an example of what it means to remain calm in the cockpit. He was able to figure out the issue and get us on the ground safely. Him being calm kept me calm and I was able to help ease some of his workload by working the radios so that he could focus on flying the plane. Great Job Will!
