Dr. Robert Underdunk Terwilliger (Ph.D.), better known as Sideshow Bob, is a recurring character in the animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Kelsey Grammer and first appeared briefly in the episode "The Telltale Head". Bob is a self-proclaimed genius who is a graduate of Yale University, a member of the Republican Party, and a champion of high culture. He began his career as a sidekick on Krusty the Clown's television show, but after enduring constant abuse, Bob attempted to frame his employer for armed robbery in "Krusty Gets Busted". The plan was foiled by Bart Simpson, and Sideshow Bob was sent to prison.
Bob made his second major appearance in season three's "Black Widower"; the writers echoed the premise of the Coyote chasing the Road Runner by having Bob unexpectedly insert himself into Bart's life and attempt to kill him. In each appearance thereafter, Bob has assumed the role on The Simpsons of an evil genius. Episodes in which he is a central character typically involve Sideshow Bob being released from prison and executing an elaborate revenge plan, usually foiled by Bart and Lisa. His plans often involve murder and destruction, usually targeted at Bart or, less often, Krusty, though these plans often involve targeting the entire Simpson family. In 2015, however, during the "Treehouse of Horror" episode, "Wanted: Dead, Then Alive", Bob finally gets his wish of killing Bart, which he comments he spent 24 years trying to kill a ten-year-old child; however, he becomes bored with Bart dead, so he brings him back to life so that he can repeatedly kill Bart over and over again.
The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical depiction of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by the Simpson family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.
The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated shorts with the producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his own family, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show and was an early hit for Fox, becoming the network's first series to land in the Top 30 ratings in a season (1989–90).
Since its debut on December 17, 1989, the series has broadcast 587 episodes. It is currently airing its 27th season. The Simpsons is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and in 2009 it surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest-running American scripted primetime television series. The Simpsons Movie, a feature-length film, was released in theaters worldwide on July 27, 2007, and grossed over $527 million. On May 4, 2015, the series was officially renewed for seasons twenty-seven (2015–16) and twenty-eight (2016–17), consisting of 22 episodes each.
In America, a sideshow is an extra, secondary production associated with a circus, carnival, fair or other such attraction.

Kelsey Grammer explained the origins of the low, melodious voice of Sideshow Bob and explained how singing Tony Bennett songs on the set of Cheers earned him the role as the beloved Simpsons villain. During an interview on the BBC's The Graham Norton Show, Grammer explained that he was offered the role of Sideshow Bob through Sam Simon, the late Simpsons co-creator, and a former writer and producer for Cheers. When The Simpsons staff decided to give Sideshow Bob a voice (he'd previously been seen as Krusty the Clown's sidekick, but not heard), Simon recalled Grammer's Bennett-esque belting and offered him the role. After reading the script, Grammer realized a voice based on famed theater actor Ellis Rabb was perfect for the pompous Sideshow Bob. http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/watch-ke...

A few classic quotes by Virginia Delegate "Sideshow" Bob Marshall (R-Manassas, VA) from his interview on the Kojo Nnamdi Show's Politics Hour on 1/24/14 (http://thekojonnamdishow.org/shows/2014-01-24/politics-hour-jan-24-2014). Marshall's rant pertains to Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring's decision to no longer defend Virginia's anti-gay-marriage law, which Del. Marshall co-authored. Also note that Marshall has been a rabid homophobe and "social issues" crusader throughout his career in the Virginia House of Delegates. *Should Moses and Jesus apologize to anybody for affirming that marriage is between one man and one woman?" *"I mean, who's Mark Herring, Louis 14...Why didn't he tell everybody when he was running for office what he was doing, no he kept this very cleverly to himself...
