Åland Islands
The Åland Islands or Åland (Swedish: Åland, Swedish pronunciation: [ˈoːland]; Finnish: Ahvenanmaa) is a region of Finland that consists of an archipelago lying at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea. It is autonomous, demilitarised and is the only monolingually Swedish-speaking region in Finland. Collectively, the islands in the archipelago form the smallest region of Finland, constituting 0.49% of its land area and 0.50% of its population.
Åland comprises Fasta Åland on which 90% of the population resides and a further 6,500 skerries and islands to its east. Fasta Åland is separated from the coast of Sweden by 38 kilometres (24 mi) of open water to the west. In the east, the Åland archipelago is contiguous with the Finnish Archipelago Sea. Åland's only land border is located on the uninhabited skerry of Märket, which it shares with Sweden.
Åland's autonomous status means that those provincial powers normally exercised by representatives of the central Finnish government are largely exercised by its own government.

On the Åland Islands, they speak Swedish. Their culture is similar to that of Sweden. They share similar customs, traditions, and for the longest time they have tried to be annexed by Sweden. But without lasting success. The Åland Islands are part of Finland. But why?
The Åland Islands are unique in Europe and the world. They are an autonomous region within Finland with their own structures of governance, parliament, elections, and cultural identity. This unique state of independency within the borders of a greater nation is the result of a ruling by the League of Nations after WWI.
The islands are strategically located on the crossroads of three important waters: the gulf of Bothnia, gulf of Finland, and the Baltic Sea. The islands have therefore historically been contested. Whomever controls these islands has a significant military advantage in the region.
This is why the League of Nations after world war I ruled that no country can put military personnel or equipment on the Åland Islands. The islands ought to stay neutral, independent, and peaceful.

Hello everyone!
How are you? I noticed that my last video got a bit more attention than usual and I have some new people watching. I would love to know something about you, where you are from and what you like doing for example.
In this video I share glimpses of my life on my family's cabin. It is situated on an island in the Ålandic archipilago in Finland. The views are stunning and the cabin is very cozy. The feeling I get when I am on this island is so special. I know the terrain so well and it feels familia, I relax completely. Spending time like this, surrounded by water makes time feel longer, not in a bad way at all. We spent four days here but it felt like two weeks. It was like my soul got cleansed and now I am lighter. Anyway, I hope you like it and if you are from the other side of the world, perhaps you'll learn something new.

Åland Islands
The Åland Islands or Åland (Swedish: Åland, Swedish pronunciation: [ˈoːland]; Finnish: Ahvenanmaa) is a region of Finland that consists of an archipelago lying at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea. It is autonomous, demilitarised and is the only monolingually Swedish-speaking region in Finland. Collectively, the islands in the archipelago form the smallest region of Finland, constituting 0.49% of its land area and 0.50% of its population.
Åland comprises Fasta Åland on which 90% of the population resides and a further 6,500 skerries and islands to its east. Fasta Åland is separated from the coast of Sweden by 38 kilometres (24 mi) of open water to the west. In the east, the Åland archipelago is contiguous with the Finnish Archipelago Sea. Åland's only land border is located on the uninhabited skerry of Märket, which it shares with Sweden.
Åland's autonomous status means that those provincial powers normally exercised by representatives of the central Finnish government are largely exercised by its own government.
