Luise Rainer (12 January 1910 – 30 December 2014) was a German and American film actress. She was the first actor to win multiple Academy Awards and the first actress to win them consecutively. The accomplishment was later matched by Katharine Hepburn in the late 1960s; Spencer Tracy in the 1930s and Tom Hanks in the 1990s won consecutive awards for best actor.
At the time of her death, she was the longest-lived individual ever to have received an Academy Award.
Rainer began acting in Germany at age 16, being trained by Austria's leading stage director, Max Reinhardt. Within a few years, she had become a distinguished Berlin stage actress with Reinhardt's Vienna theater ensemble. Critics "raved" about her acting quality. After years of acting on stage and in films in Austria and Germany, she was discovered by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer talent scouts, who signed her to a three-year contract in Hollywood in 1935. A number of filmmakers envisioned she might become another Greta Garbo, MGM's leading female star at the time.
The brief, but easily most celebrated scene in The Great Ziegfeld, in which Anna Held (Luise Rainer) calls her ex-husband Ziegfeld, to congratulate him on the occasion of his re-marriage. This scene won Rainer the Academy Award for Best Actress. http://www.TheLastBlogNameOnEarth.com
Screen legend and two-time Academy Award winner Luise Rainer made this rare TV appearance on the Joe Franklin Show in 1981, joined by author Charlotte Chandler. Rainer, who won her back-to-bck "Best Actress" Oscars for "The Great Ziegfeld" and "The Good Earth," died Dec. 30, 2014, just two weeks short of her 105th birthday. On the 5 September 2011, Luise was finally honored in home country in the city of Berlin for her services to acting.

Luise Rainer (* 12. Januar 1910 in Düsseldorf; † 30.

Flo Ziegfeld's midway attraction isn't drawing flies. "How's business, Ziggy?" a rival taunts. This winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture provides the career-chronicling answer. Florenz Ziegfeld Jr.'s business was good (with Broadway's legendary Follies and more), bad (including times the showman could scarcely rub two nickels together) and rarely lacking optimistic excess.
O dia acabou.

Luise Rainer, star of Hollywood's golden era, has died at the age of 104. German-born Rainer famously became the first person to win back-to-back Oscars, in 1936 and 1937. To date, it is a feat only five actors have managed to achieve, but it was also the beginning of the end of her major film career. She later broke her contract with MGM. In an interview, she later claimed: … READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2014/12/30/luise-rainer-first-winner-of-back-to-back-oscars-dies-aged-104 What are the top stories today?
