I came to Waukegan to record Ray Bradbury's childhood house. But I ended up taking a few shots of the house cause once I got out of the car and found the house, I couldn't help but feel like I was being watched. As if someone that just wouldn't stop staring at me. Plus I heard someone cough in the house which means someone else lives in the house and if I stand too long or even started recording the house he might notice and might think I'm suspicious or something so I took a few shots of the house and left. I then decided that since I'm in Waukegan I might as well drive to the downtown area and record some video. September 5, 2013 Waukegan, Illinois (CBSCHICAGO) A north suburban man is suing a local Walmart store, claiming he was the victim of a beating while he was shopping, and store security did nothing to stop the attack.
The suit alleges Jeremiah Rogers and his girlfriend -- both African Americans -- were at the Walmart in Waukegan in January, when two unidentified men--one who was white or Hispanic and the other black--began harassing them.
David Lowery Jr., founder and CEO of the Living & Driving While Black Foundation, said security guards escorted the men out, but at least one of them came back and accosted the couple again, using a racial slur.
Rogers was hit in the face with a wine bottle, then of of the men pulled out a gun, "and started to chase him around the store," Lowery said.
"Meanwhile, Walmart security and management ran into their office, and locked the door, and left them out in the store, running, trying to save their lives," he added.
However, Walmart claimed a store security guard intervened right away.
"Unfortunately, sometimes individual customers act inappropriately. When that happens and it turns violent, we involve police, who are trained to manage such situations. In this instance, an off-duty police officer was working security for us at the time and he responded immediately," Walmart spokesman Dan Fogleman said in an email. "Our security cameras captured the incident and we have provided the video to police to help identify, and hopefully convict, those responsible for Mr. Rogers' injuries."

Waukegan, Illinois
Waukegan /wɔːˈkiːɡən/ is a city and the county seat of Lake County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2013 census estimate, the city had a population of 88,826. It is the ninth-largest city in Illinois by population. It is the fifth-largest city on the western shore of Lake Michigan, after Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Kenosha.
History
The site of present-day Waukegan was recorded as Riviere du Vieux Fort ("Old Fort River") and Wakaygagh on a 1778 map by Thomas Hutchins. By the 1820s, the French name had become "Small Fort River" in English, and the settlement was known as "Little Fort". The name "Waukegance" and then "Waukegan" (meaning "little fort"; cf. Potawatomi wakaigin "little fort") was created by John H. Kinzie and Solomon Juneau, and the new name was adopted in 1849.
Waukegan had an abolitionist community dating to these early days. In 1853, residents commemorated the anniversary of emancipation of slaves in the British Empire with a meeting. Waukegan arguably has the distinction of being the only place where Abraham Lincoln failed to finish a speech; when he campaigned in the town in 1860, a fire alarm rang, and the man soon-to-be president had his words interrupted.

September 5, 2013 Waukegan, Illinois (CBSCHICAGO) A north suburban man is suing a local Walmart store, claiming he was the victim of a beating while he was shopping, and store security did nothing to stop the attack. The suit alleges Jeremiah Rogers and his girlfriend -- both African Americans -- were at the Walmart in Waukegan in January, when two unidentified men--one who was white or Hispanic and the other black--began harassing them. David Lowery Jr., founder and CEO of the Living & Driving While Black Foundation, said security guards escorted the men out, but at least one of them came back and accosted the couple again, using a racial slur. Rogers was hit in the face with a wine bottle, then of of the men pulled out a gun, "and started to chase him around the store," Lowery said. "Meanwhile, Walmart security and management ran into their office, and locked the door, and left them out in the store, running, trying to save their lives," he added. However, Walmart claimed a store security guard intervened right away. "Unfortunately, sometimes individual customers act inappropriately. When that happens and it turns violent, we involve police, who are trained to manage such situations. In this instance, an off-duty police officer was working security for us at the time and he responded immediately," Walmart spokesman Dan Fogleman said in an email.
