Impossible Princess

Impossible Princess (retitled Kylie Minogue in the UK and Europe) is the sixth studio album by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue, released on 22 October 1997. Because the A&R department of her label, Deconstruction Records, were not present throughout the majority of the album's production process, song writing and production were primarily handled by Minogue, in collaboration with producers Dave Ball, Ingo Vauk, Brothers in Rhythm, Manic Street Preachers and Rob Dougan.

Minogue started work on the album in October 1995 when she returned from her trips with French photographer and her then-boyfriend Stéphane Sednaoui. A release with a mixture of different musical genres and styles, the album features several songs employing themes of self-reflection, relationships and insecurities. The album cover was photographed by Sednaoui and the album title was derived from the book Poems to Break the Harts of Impossible Princesses (1994) by Billy Childish and from a lyric in the song "Dreams". The tracks "Some Kind of Bliss", "Did It Again", "Breathe" and "Cowboy Style" served as the album's official singles, while the other songs from the album served as promotional singles in Australia and New Zealand.

AURORA

Aurora Aksnes (born 15 June 1996), stage name AURORA, is a singer-songwriter from Os, Norway. Her debut EP Running with the Wolves was released through Decca Records in May 2015, receiving widespread approval from online music blogs and national press. AURORA’s debut album is set for release in 2016. More recently she has provided the backing track for the 2015 John Lewis Christmas advertisement, singing a cover of the Oasis song "Half the World Away".

Early life

Aurora Aksnes was born on 15 June 1996 in Bergen, Norway. Her earliest musical memory is of finding an electric piano in her parents’ attic and being fascinated by the music she could produce. Her parents never pushed her to pursue music either as a career or as a hobby but as Aurora grew older, she moved on from mimicking classical music to composing her own. She cites renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences and, aged 10, she began writing songs for the first time. She decided to start playing her music publicly following her mother’s suggestion that her songs could help people.

Half the World Away

"Half the World Away" is a song by English rock band Oasis. It is well known as the theme tune to the popular BBC sitcom The Royle Family.

The song was written by Oasis' lead guitarist Noel Gallagher, who also provides lead vocals. The song is a slow acoustic tune with plodding keyboards, and the lyric - much like "Rock 'n' Roll Star" - expresses a desire to leave a stagnant life in a boring city. The song is primarily in C Major.

Recorded at The Congress House Studio, Austin, Texas in October 1994, "Half the World Away" was first released as a B-side to "Whatever" on 18 December 1994, reaching #3 in the UK charts.

In 1998 the song was included in The Masterplan, a collection of Oasis' best B-sides. The collection was a success, peaking at #2 in the UK charts. The track is also included on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks, which also reached #2. The song reached #56 in the UK charts in 2015 following the release of Aurora's cover version, marking their first top 100 song since the release of "Falling Down" in 2009.
