Leonard Rosenman (September 7, 1924 – March 4, 2008) was an American film, television and concert composer.
Leonard Rosenman was born in Brooklyn, New York. After service in the Pacific with the Army Air Forces in World War II, he earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of California, Berkeley. He also studied composition with Arnold Schoenberg, Roger Sessions and Luigi Dallapiccola.
Rosenman composed the scores for such films as East of Eden (1955), Rebel Without a Cause (1955), Fantastic Voyage (1966), The Lord of the Rings (1978), Cross Creek (1983) and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). He wrote incidental music for such television series as The Defenders, The Twilight Zone, Gibbsville and Marcus Welby, M.D. He also wrote the theme and almost all of the incidental music used for the entire run of the 1960s World War II television series Combat!. In the 1970s he composed Bass Concerto Chamber Music 4 for bassist Buell Neidlinger and four string quartets with a second bass.

Merry Christmas! This suite is dedicated to James Horner and Leonard Nimoy, both of whom played a huge part in giving this music its soul. It seemed only logical to make this suite with all the great music for Vulcans and Spock in the series and movies. Featured are Vulcan/Spock themes from The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek (2009), Enterprise, The Next Generation, and of course, The Original Series. You didn't think I'd forget Amok Time, did you? This is probably the calmest, most laid back suite so far, which is a great contrast to my Klingon suite.
If I had to pick a favorite Vulcan/Spock theme, I'd have to say either the James Horner theme from II and III, or the new Michael Giacchino theme from Star Trek (2009). What's your favorite Vulcan theme? What other themed suites would you like to see?

Globus is the commercial name of a mix of producers, musicians and vocalists from the prominent movie trailer music production company Immediate Music. The lead composers are Yoav Goren and Jeffrey Fayman.
Globus was launched in 2006 in response to an influx of requests to Immediate Music to make their distinctive, rousing orchestral cues available to the general public by means of a conventional CD release.
Globus' live world premiere took place in The Grand Hall, Wembley, London, on 26 July 2006 and an album was released in August of that year. Feeder's Mark Richardson is featured on drums.

Epicon is Globus's debut album and was released in the UK only in 2006. The album was distributed in the United States in August 2008. The "Live at Wembley" DVD was made available for purchase on July 29, 2008.[1]

This is by far the longest section I've created so far, as it covers The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home, or the "Genesis Trilogy". There's A LOT of great music in these films, so this section of the suite is quite long. I didn't put as much in from Star Trek IV because as good as the music is, I didn't want the different "comedic" style to take away too much from James Horner's music. Instead I chose to use primarily music from the 23rd century parts of the movie to try to make it feel more seamless. In 1987, the Arnold Schoenberg Institute in Los Angeles commissioned the settings of the remaining twenty-nine poems that Schoenberg had neglected, using his original scoring, by sixteen American composers: Milton Babbitt, Leslie Bassett, Susan Morton Blaustein, Paul Cooper, Miriam Gideon, John Harbison, Donald Harris, Richard Hoffmann, Karl Kohn, William Kraft, Ursula Mamlok, Steve Mosco, Marc Neikrug, Mel Powell, Roger Reynolds, and Leonard Rosenman. I may have missed the 45th Anniversary by a bit, but here's my contribution. This is by far the longest section I've created so far, as it covers The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home, or the "Genesis Trilogy". There's A LOT of great music in these films, so this section of the suite is quite long. I didn't put as much in from Star Trek IV because as good as the music is, I didn't want the different "comedic" style to take away too much from James Horner's music. Instead I chose to use primarily music from the 23rd century parts of the movie to try to make it feel more seamless. I wanted to end with James Horner's theme to make it feel like a cohesive trilogy.
Note to viewers: This is NOT a music video. The still image is just for something appropriate to look at, but this is primarily an audio piece.

The incredible story of the dental hygienist Linda Perhacs who as a young woman in 1970 published a groundbreaking album which nobody noticed. Half a century later she discovered that it had gone worldwide on the Internet.
Linda Perhacs was discovered and then rediscovered. It's only now that her unique talent is really being celebrated. The California-based singer/songwriter published a ground-breaking album in 1970 which went largely unnoticed at the time. The album might have been lost and forgotten completely had it not been for the rise of the Internet and New Weird America movement around 2000.
"It came out of thin air." In the interview Perhacs talks of her inspirations, and she explains that her father's family are deeply spiritual people who are guided by inner voices. She describes how she hears voices talking to her from above and within, and on occasion is able to actually visualize music, making drawings to help her remember these complicated musical sculptures.
Linda Perhacs worked most of her life as a dental hygenist in Beverly Hills, leading a quiet and solitary life, spending her free time on long walks in nature. When she was young, she had many hippie friends, and although she never went to concerts or did drugs, she was influenced by the hippie ideas.
Through her job for a dentist in Hollywood, she met lots of movie people, and became friends with award winning composer Leonard Rosenman, who realized her musical potential and decided he wanted to work with her. Today Parrallelograms, Linda Perhacs first -- and for decades only -- album is regarded as a psych-folk masterpiece. The album was reissued in 2005 and again in 2008. Perhacs songs have been featured in soundtracks to many films including Daft Punk's Electroma. In March 2014 Perhacs' released her second record The Soul of All Natural Things.

In 1987, the Arnold Schoenberg Institute in Los Angeles commissioned the settings of the remaining twenty-nine poems that Schoenberg had neglected, using his original scoring, by sixteen American composers: Milton Babbitt, Leslie Bassett, Susan Morton Blaustein, Paul Cooper, Miriam Gideon, John Harbison, Donald Harris, Richard Hoffmann, Karl Kohn, William Kraft, Ursula Mamlok, Steve Mosco, Marc Neikrug, Mel Powell, Roger Reynolds, and Leonard Rosenman. The settings were given their premieres between 1988 and 1990 in four concerts sponsored by the Institute. (The director of the Institute, Leonard Stein, added a setting of his own to the final concert of the project.)
William Kraft (b. 1923, Chicago) has had a long and active career as composer, conductor, percussionist, and teacher. In the summer of 2002, he retired as chairman of the composition department and holder of the Corwin Chair at the University of California, Santa Barbara. From 1981-1985, Mr. Kraft was the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Composer-in-Residence. During his residency, he was founder and director of the orchestra's performing arm for contemporary music, the Philharmonic New Music Group. Mr. Kraft had previously been a performing member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 26 years -- eight years as percussionist, and the last 18 as Principal Timpanist. For three seasons, he was also assistant conductor of the Philharmonic, and, thereafter, made frequent appearances as guest conductor.
During his early years in Los Angeles, Mr. Kraft organized and directed the Los Angeles Percussion Ensemble, a group which played a vital part in premieres and recordings of works by such renowned composers as Ginastera, Harrison, Krenek, Stravinsky, Varèse, and many others. In 1987, the Arnold Schoenberg Institute in Los Angeles commissioned the settings of the remaining twenty-nine poems that Schoenberg had neglected, using his original scoring, by sixteen American composers: Milton Babbitt, Leslie Bassett, Susan Morton Blaustein, Paul Cooper, Miriam Gideon, John Harbison, Donald Harris, Richard Hoffmann, Karl Kohn, William Kraft, Ursula Mamlok, Steve Mosco, Marc Neikrug, Mel Powell, Roger Reynolds, and Leonard Rosenman. The settings were given their premieres between 1988 and 1990 in four concerts sponsored by the Institute. William Kraft (b. 1923, Chicago) has had a long and active career as composer, conductor, percussionist, and teacher. In the summer of 2002, he retired as chairman of the composition department and holder of the Corwin Chair at the University of California, Santa Barbara. From 1981-1985, Mr. Kraft was the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Composer-in-Residence. During his residency, he was founder and director of the orchestra's performing arm for contemporary music, the Philharmonic New Music Group. Mr. Kraft had previously been a performing member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 26 years -- eight years as percussionist, and the last 18 as Principal Timpanist. For three seasons, he was also assistant conductor of the Philharmonic, and, thereafter, made frequent appearances as guest conductor.
During his early years in Los Angeles, Mr. Kraft organized and directed the Los Angeles Percussion Ensemble, a group which played a vital part in premieres and recordings of works by such renowned composers as Ginastera, Harrison, Krenek, Stravinsky, Varèse, and many others. George Frideric Handel's Sarabande from the keyboard suite in D minor, HWV 437 (nomenclature not to be confused with German cars). It was dance music 300 years ago from what I understand. Stanley Kubrick used it in the Barry Lyndon soundtrack, and I'm trying to do it more in a "switched on" Clockwork Orangish style. Brian de Palma also used it in Redacted. The instrument is a Clavia Nord Stage 2, simulating a B3 Hammond organ with rotary speaker and some overdrive, a French harpsichord, Eminent 310 strings/pads (made famous by Jean-Michel Jarre) with wah effect, and a church organ for the reprise at the end. I first came across the Handel theme played on a guitar and, strangely enough, it made me think of Ennio Morricone. I think it worked very well in the film, and the very simple orchestration kept it from sounding out of place.

Resolvi "upar" essa música por considerar essa a cena mais brilhante do filme "De Volta ao Planeta dos Macacos", porque essa música não se encontra disponível no Youtube e pelo fato dela ser uma composição brilhante.
A cena é a seguinte (coloquei muitas fotos da cena no vídeo): Ao fugirem da Cidade dos Macacos, onde estavam aprisionados, o astronauta Brent e a nativa Nova buscam um esconderijo em uma formação rochosa que encontram no caminho. Eles acabam por descobrir uma gruta que abriga os "restos mortais" do que milênios antes foi a cidade de Nova York. Lá eles se deparam com um misterioso complexo de túneis subterrâneos onde coisas estranhas acontecem. Brent e Nova são surpreendidos por um grupo de humanos que os capturam. Mais tarde lhes é revelado que essas pessoas são os últimos seres humanos "inteligentes" sobreviventes de uma guerra nuclear de eras passadas. Devido a radiação ali presente estes homens e mulheres se tornaram mutantes. Comunicam-se por telepatia, utilizam seus poderes psíquicos para controlar mentes e produzir ilusionismos, e etc... Nova e Brent são conduzidos a uma Igreja onde os mutantes cultuam seu "deus", uma Bomba Nuclear. Nesse instante a congregação entoa a canção "Hail The Bomb", em glorificação a Bomba, onde dizem que ela é a sua mãe e criadora. No auge da cena todos os mutantes, que aparentemente eram apenas humanos dotados "habilidades especiais", tiram suas mascaras e revelam suas faces deformadas pela radiação. Os mesmos se auto-intitulam anjos e a raça mais avançada dos humanos (tentei legendar o vídeo, mas não encontrei a letra da música). A música inspira uma atmosfera insana, psicodélica e bizarra, representando bem a mensagem que a cena quis transmitir: uma civilização deformada pela guerra nuclear, mas que exalta tal condição.
