Phantasm's Tall Man Angus Scrimm Remembered by Actor Reggie Bannister! Classic Horror Movie Villain
What was the late actor Angus Scrimm, The Tall Man and the much alive writer/director Don Coscarelli really like while filming Phantasm? Franchise star, actor Reggie Bannister tells us!
Who didn't love the classic early entries from this 70s and 80s franchise (and to current times!)? The ball, the sphere of death is still an iconic image of horror. Phantasm from 1976, which many people forget places it at the beginning of the indie horror film movement that the film Halloween gets so much credit for. And of course one of the most important elements of the horror movie Phantasm was the indelible horror villain the Tall Man, played with relish by actor Angus Scrimm.
This role may not have been seen as much at the time, but the Tall Man as played by actor Angus Scrimm has become an iconic...

Phantasm: Low Budget Indie To 40-Year Franchise- Actor Reggie Bannister Interview, 70s Horror Movie
The Phantasm franchise actor Reggie Bannister interview about the unlikely success of this horror icon. Phantasm has gone from an obscure independent horror film to a horror icon, resulting in a five film 37 year franchise. And Reggie Bannister was there from the beginning, and in this interview he tells us about the hardscrabble roots of indie filmmaking when he and writer director Don Coscarelli followed their passion and made a film that would change the industry.
The most recent entry in the franchise, the fifth film Phantasm V, also known as Phantasm RaVager, came out in 2016, a full 37 years after the original low-budget film - Phantasm, with it's villain the Tall Man, and his iconic weapon, the Ball, the Orb, the Sphere - whatever you call it, it made horror history. This role may not have been seen as much at the time, but the Tall Man as played by actor Angus Scrimm has become an iconic evil villain in horror movie history. Angus Scrimm's elegant portrayal of the evil Tall Man elevated the small part with little dialogue, and became a character the Phantasm franchise would bring back again and again for decades. And in this interview, the Ice Cream Man himself Reggie Bannister tells us about what Angus Scrimm was really like, and how his theatrical 'affectation' informed his riveting performance as the Tall Man.
A small bit of Phantasm history that not many people know, in celebration of actor Angus Scrimm and the Phantasm movie franchise from Don Coscarelli. Special thanks to PHantasm actor Reggie Bannister for giving us his time for this interview.

An icon from the 1970s, Phantasm is an important if often overlooked movie.
But at HeroJournalism, we LOVE Phantasm! Especially actor Reggie Bannister if he's open to an interview! And we are striving to shine a light on this important film in horror film history. This movie was so influential, it influenced JJ Abrams to create Captain Phasma, in her chrome mirror Stormtrooper armor, an homage to the famous death sphere, or 'the ball' as so many of us call it.
The Tall Man is one of the great villains from 1970s horror film history, a movie icon in and of itself (himself?); The orb, the ball, the death sphere - one of the classic elements that Phantasm introduced into the horror movie lexicon. And Reggie Bannister was there from the beginning - Reggie Bannister starred in every Phantasm film, and even became a producer on the series. And in 2018, I met actor Reggie Bannister and Gigi Bannister at Comic-Con San Diego, and asked him about the roots and success of the Phantasm franchise. Reggie Bannister - who with Don Coscarelli, followed a dream of filmmaking and on their third try, struck gold with the movie Phantasm. Yes, this was pre-CGI baby, the 1970s horror movie icon, practical sets, practical effects, the best that 1970s horror film production had to offer!
Special thanks to Phantasm actor Reggie Bannister for doing this interview; it's always tough to ask someone for their time for an interview, but Bannister was eager to talk to me and any fans who came up to him at the con, even if it wasn't for a big YouTube interview, lol.
